I'm looking for ideas on intelligence gathering. We've been wardecc'd and I'll admit, it's my first. The warring isn't a problem. Noone wants to really fight, either side. It's basically turned into a war of opportunity on both sides. I.E. One of us runs into a group of them. One of them runs into a group of us. Rather boring.

But, I'm looking for ideas on methods of intelligence gathering about the opposing forces. In space assets, if any. Complete corp member lists. Identifying alts, alt corps. Suggestions would be great.

We've done what we know. We've gleaned the KB's for member names. Put a cloaker in their main system observing who comes and go. Followed them with alts when the opportunity has made itself available.

Any ideas?

If you have an out of Corp alt with enough SP you has never been a member of your main corp you can try to plant a spy.

I've actually been amazed at just how much intel can be had just using those meathods. I myself have just begun wardecing other corps for some hisec pvp lols. One corp I wardeced had their website linked on their attributes. It had all their "division heads" right there to see.

Some corps have open forums.

The out of corp alt that sits in their system and catches members and ship names is probably one of the most powerful tools in the intel gathering arsenal....so far at least. A KB can do a lot for helping you find their main system but some corps even leave it as their corp headquarters as the system they hang out in.

Don't forget locator agents either. If you want to know where they are when they log in, you'll want to have an agent that can tell you that.

Don't forget to put their names on the buddies list so you can see when they log on and off...
It helps monitor what their activity schedule is.

Check individual pilots contract history to find their alts.

Now this is something I hadn't even consider. I'll give it a shot and see if it's somewhere between useful and not tedious. Thanks.

You don't see private contracts in contract history.

If you have a neutral alt you can add the warring corp as a contact with bad standings to easily recognize them in space.

Look the corp up on the popular killboards, or look at their own killboard if you can find it (Google is your friend here). This will give you a lot of member names as well as ships they can fly. The important questions here are, do they have any caps and do they have significant TII/TIII/faction stuff. You might want to add those pilots to your watchlist to see what can they throw at you at any time.

If you're lucky the killboards can even show some of their POSes. At least a few boards I know of list the planet and moon with each POS kill.

first place id try would be the killboard, search by corp, search by pilot.

It is amazing how gathering intel in EVE is so much easier than hiding it. The game mechanics and features clearly make it that have an Out fo Grid task force must be done with much more skills (IRL skills, not EVE SKills) than gathering the info).
Methods for gathering:
- Spies, since you are sure it cant be traced back to you the same way you trace the enemies alts;
- Buddies, since you cant deny someone to see your online status;
- Chat (everybody is forced to join local chat);
- Corp contacts, since the members of the corp you add to your contacts as terrible will have a red icon at the local chat list and whatever they are shown;
- Corp's info;

But, there are few ways to avoid intel gathering on you:
- Having the war force of your corp in an alt or sister corp and keep them without roles, so they can switch corps at ease, hiding at the same time the number of people, the locations, and the actual red flagging. You can have them all to rendezvous in one place under other corp's flag, and when all force is there, switch to the war corp;
- Put up alts in your corp to mask numbers;
- Put up fake contracts;
- Using such alts to appear for their force so they will naturally start attacking, then jump them with the main warforce when they are obviously reloading guns, half or so capacitor and used their modules, ran out of target points, forcing them to unlock and lock;

There are plenty strategies using social engeenering that can exploit on human factor in a war.
