Your skill-plan. Mine changes on a weekly basis with two alts and a third account that I haven't re-sub'd in a few months. I've come to view a good character with focused training as a work of art. It takes dedication, patience, and at a bit of knowledge to get those skills from support to ship in a timely manner while keeping your goal in clear view at all times.

A. What is (or was) your master plan for your main character?

B. Did you stick to your plan for the long haul or did you find yourself deviating?

C. Are you happy with what/how you trained, between the patches, nerfs, buffs, and remaps?

D. Have you reached any of your goals, if not, how close are you to reaching them?

E. If you started a new character today, what kind of plan would you create for it?

---

As for myself:

A. My initial plan was to train for gallente battleships. As a new player I very much liked the megathron hull and wanted to fly one.

B. I made it as far as the myrmidon before I realized that smaller ships were just way more exciting. I deviated a lot from that point onward.

C. I haven't been overly pleased with some training, for example, I wish I had my missile support skills up to fly a tengu, but overall i'm happy. My remaps were really vague, I didn't focus much in the first two years. I don't think I regret that since I deviated a lot from my original scheme.

D. I reached a few sub-goals so far. I can fly a fairly close to perfect gallente and caldari frigate, assault frigate, interceptor, cruiser, and a few other smaller ships. My next goal is to raise my missile support skills enough to fly a tengu and stealth bombers since I already have a lot of those skills.

E. If I made a new character today I would train for a carrier to make living outside of empire a little more convient.

A. Was to fly a carrier.

B. Yes, a little bit of deviating.

C. Yeah, it's fine. I have multiple toons so you can't nerf me!

D. Yes.

E. No new characters for me I can fly at least one ship in every type of fleet composition.

1. No master plan. I made some plans, but just to see how long it will approximately take me to reach a certain point. Whenever a skill finishes I just put in another, whichever I feel that I need most at the moment/the character needs tweaking.

2. In the long run I stick to my non-existant plan in a way that I still want the same skillset that I wanted a year ago. I just don't stick to an order and plug in other skills that I overlooked.

3. I am very happy with my training. Nerfs and Buffs never affected me too much and the remaps came perfectly.

4. I reached some of my goals and I'm working on the others. Finished my trading and industry characters and nearly perfected my skills in one ship class.

5. I'd make a gang-boosting alt and stick to a plan because I would want to train charisma skills first or after the others.

  1. Be able to fly everything smaller than a battleship, and be able to fit every conceivable piece of equipment that those ships can fit
  2. Mostly, yes. The plan was later refined (and expanded) to be more along the lines of "fly everything that doesn't require the training of a racial battleship skill", since I noticed that I would need some of the larger haulers as well…
  3. Yes. Completely nerf-proof (until the day they decide to nerf smaller ships' ability to evade larger ships).
  4. Most of them yes… the plan is mostly about "beautifying" the skill list to only contain IVs and Vs.
  5. If it were still my main character? The same. If I wanted to start an alt… no idea. Maybe go for those heavier ships, just to complement what I do.

  1. To fly all race ships (excluding Titans) and have all relevant skills at V

  2. Still at the plan and it's going very well. No deviation, but then the plan is quite large.

  3. Yes, very happy. Due to being able to fly all races, patches/nerfs tend not to impact so much.

  4. Yes most of my goals are reached, the rest will soon be done.

  5. I did start a new char with a different plan, some time ago. Can't say what for, but all is going extremely well.

I first subbed back in 2007 but have only subbed intermittently since then. My original plan was to be a dronemeister, fly a Dominix in L4s, and get into exploration. Now I need a new masterplan! WHs weren't around when I started, so now that I've gotten the exploration basics down, I'm quite keen on getting into WHs, although I don't know if that's as feasible for a solo player as ordinary exploration is (I suppose it should be, if I can catch 'em early).

I've pretty much stuck to it, amazingly enough. I've deviated slightly by adding salvaging and rig manufacture (with just enough industrial efficiency to make it viable for my own use) as a sideline, but I enjoy that. I don't think I'll move any further into manufacturing on this char, though. I haven't touched mining or commerce on this character (other than being able to sell more items than by default). I've also gone a little bit down the stealth line (to supplement exploration), enough to fit T2 covert ops cloak.

Recently I got another account on which I've started up building a more mining/industry oriented character, with a sideline in combat, who could exploit mining finds from exploration, and also double up as Drake/missile help against Sleepers if and when I start getting into serious WH exploration.

On the whole, absolutely. Amusingly, when I first signed up, Gallente were the big dogs - which wouldn't have mattered too much to me, as I also happened to like the Gallente lore. However, since then, I've seen us liberty-lovers go to almost the bottom of the pile, such are the fortunes of MMOs Laughing I have only recently gotten my Gunnery up to scratch (T2) - but of course it's hybrids I'm invested in! I have faith they'll be bumped back eventually, though, so not that bothered. But I'm branching out into medium autocannons (for prospective Myrm PvP laughs) and I may branch out into missiles (which I tried on my new alt and found I enjoy - plus I want to fly a Rattlesnake some day!).

I'm feeling much more "on top of" training nowadays (e.g. core competency, and now pretty much everything T2). Everything feels like plain sailing now, I don't feel like so much of a n00b anymore. However, atm my "ceiling" is capitals, so that feeling might change if I ever get into 'em! Very Happy

D. Have you reached any of your goals, if not, how close are you to reaching them?

Yeah, I reached core competency standard, full-on drone meistery and exploration skills the last time I subbed a few months ago, and had a lot of fun probing and exploring - although, again, ironically, it seems the thing I chose, exploration, is a bit nerfed from what it was in its heyday - still it's a fun thing to do solo, and as I'm a casual who doesn't have the time to commit to corps, I'm basically happy with the choice.

During that last bout of subbing, after attaining my exploration skills, I got a burning desire to fly an Ishtar, which would be more useful to me for the combat side of exploring, and I'm only a few days away from that now (I'm excited!). I've also got my eye on a few other selected ships (the aforementioned Rattler, Pilgrim perhaps - basically any other ships that use drones a lot). I'll probably branch out into Lazors at some point for some of these ships.

Can't see it being much different, honestly. Even the Gallente thing - I can't imagine I'd go Minmatar just because they're FOTM. Gallente all the way, baby!

A : Max out all Minmatar ship classes below Battleship and associated PvP skills;
B : Stuck to it - a year in frigates/destroyers doing PvP became a bit limiting but was worth it;
C : Yes;
D : Another year or so to go. Maybe a bit longer;
E : Got all the characters I want really - they all do different things now.

A. I called my first EVEmon plan "Make my character not a piece of crap!" It is basically making my character an ace spaceship pilot, focusing on all core aspects of ships, fitting, guns, tank, all the good stuff.

B. I did need to deviate a bit. I found that I wasn't able to fly many ships trying to max out my tanking skills, so I switched to Per/Wil when I was happy with my skills at the time. It's part of the plan now, and I always plan deviating to accommodate what's happening in life (I'm training Advanced Weapons Upgrades 5 now, getting my PI skills up to 4, and then Drone Interfacing 5 while I do exams).

C. I wasn't for a good while, but now my character is coming along grand. I've never really experienced a nerf, buff or change, but remap wise I think my first remap was really bad in the long run. The second remedied that. Thankfully, I've one more left to go back to Int/Mem

D. I think that I've reached an acceptable level of competence. I wanted to be a frigate pilot and weapons wise I've definitely reached it. I can fly an Ishkur, and my drone skills are fairly good (thankfully just a little bit worse than my gunnery skills now, compared to before), so it's definitely opened up a niche I can fill in battle. I'm hoping I can get better at piloting larger ships though, because I'm still doing level 3 missions for cash, and the Planetary Interaction should help supplement that.

E. I think a trader or a miner in empire, while my main stays out in the wild, wild null sec (he's not there yet, but he would be if these exams didn't exist).

A. What is (or was) your master plan for your main character?

Didn't have one I just wanted to have a fun game so I went industrial with some PVP and went Minmatar within my first month of playing.

I have had several sub-goals over time some with leadership most others flying Hacs and heavy dictors. My goal at the moment is T3 ship mastery because I just got back in the game.

B. Did you stick to your plan for the long haul or did you find yourself deviating?

Oh no I randomly picked from here and there dabbling in everything in eve from Hi-sec mining to lv 4 missions to Alliance POS destruction and fleet battles.

C. Are you happy with what/how you trained, between the patches, nerfs, buffs, and remaps?

Very happy about everything except the learning skills I thought the showed who was interested in the long haul and who wanted to just try the game out. Nerfs buffs they are all the same.

D. Have you reached any of your goals, if not, how close are you to reaching them?

Yes I have I am a good used to be great Command ship pilot and yes you can go from great to good when not everyone expect all the specializations to be at 5. I can Manufacter Tech 2 which I do and I have had fun.

E. If you started a new character today, what kind of plan would you create for it?

I wouldn't make one I think this game is best with 1 toon if I had another it would be a prober and maybe a leadership/corp/miner.

a. Didn't have an amarr pilot so far, this character was my more or less strait shot at amarr.

b. I did not ahere very closely, fudged a bit with extra science and electronic skills as I found myself playing the character more often.

c. I don't regret much, though i've gone through quite a few alts at to get to this point.

d. Close to my first round of goals in perfect amarr t1 hulls. The next round will be a bit more complex between more t2 and caps. I'm still sorting the plan a bit.

e. With the upcoming JB changes i'd reckon the price of a base carrier/jf alt will go up. I'd train a few of those for retail. Wink

I have 3 accounts that I have had for a long time. I tried to make them all train in different directions, so I could do almost everything well.

First account was to be BS strong and the goal is all 4 races of carrier/dread. Started as Caldari, Shields and Missiles. He was PVE oriented with Alliance goals as well. Skills are all over the place. I didnt know what I wanted along the way, and always changed direction.

Second account was Mining/Manufacturing alt. He has come along pretty much true to goals. I don't like to PvP with him anyway as it splits my kills up from my main. (Mains)

Third account was meant to be BC and smaller, pure PvP. Its fairly focused and I concider it to be the best character, even though he has the least SP. He went for Armor and Guns, exactly opposite of the first toon.

At some point, the 2 PvP characters started overlapping skills.

I have plans with names like: "1 year from Sept 20th" that are 3 years old and half done.. Or "Better PvP 170 days" which still has 135 days on it. Each toon might have 8 unfinished plans in EVEMON. Along the way Idid finish a ton of plans, but I do deviate a lot.

A. Max out support skills, max out ship skills. Can never have enough level 5's. Mashie is sub BS specialist, Monica deal with capitals, Dominique is a money maker and slowly adding a bunch of sub BS PVP skills recently.

B. More or less, I have rearranged some skills as they were needed sooner than originally scheduled.

C. Oh yes, I'm nerf proof.

D. Yeah, there are a few ships in EFT that doesn't change stats when I switch between my own char and the all Level 5 one. The current skill plans depending on character is between two and four years.

E. Yes. Wink

A. What is (or was) your master plan for your main character?

I originally started playing with the intention of becoming an interceptor pilot after reading about them in PC Gamer.
My current master plan is to be able to fly all Matari combat ships with the exception of a titan (for now). Given that Matari ships can utilise both gunnery and missile systems as well as armour and shield it should last me a good long while.

B. Did you stick to your plan for the long haul or did you find yourself deviating?

Sort of, I didn't rush to Interceptors, stuck about in high-sec carebearing for a while before getting round to training for said speedy ships and joining the militia.
As for my current master plan, it's coming towards the endgame in a sense as I've just started my capital training and should be able to fly a carrier in a coming months.

C. Are you happy with what/how you trained, between the patches, nerfs, buffs, and remaps?

As a straight up Matari player with no intention of cross I'd say I'm pleased with my current skillset, my compulsion means that everything is nice and tidy at either level IV or V. The only skill I kind of regret is Contracting but that's be helpful when I sold multiple sets of implants.

D. Have you reached any of your goals, if not, how close are you to reaching them?

As most of my goals where "train for X Tech2 ship" I'd say I've reached plenty of them :D But still many more to go :)

E. If you started a new character today, what kind of plan would you create for it?

I started a character two days ago infact. He's going to be an industrialist/trade character. In tandem with my booster alt now retraining to run missions they should keep my wallet happy while my main can continue to roll about in null sec and explode.

-----------

A. My original plan was just to fly a CNR with perfect skills. Shortly after a started I realised a raven was not my style and and ammended that to be able to fly all sub-capital ships and fly them well (Core skills at l5, support skills at l3/4).

B. The plan is fairly all encompasing in terms of ships so it isn't really possible to deviate much.

C. Fairly happy. Although I do want to say I regret training the mining skills/ships. I can fly a hulk but I damned as hell don't want to.

D. I'm currently just reaching the polishing off stage for Minmatar, have half decent Caldari skills to the point I can use their battleships to a decent degree and can use other races ships and weapons up to cruiser/battlecruiser size.

E. Probably all the things like PI or trading or good probing skills that I haven't trained on my main. And Ewar/Logistics for supporting my main of course Very Happy

A. I started in 2008 and my initial goal was flying recon ships because I really liked the stealthy style of suprise attack and support. I chose amarr for completely arbitrary reasons.

B. I deviated a bit when I decided to get involved with wormholes. I trained hard for a legion, got a lot of science and related skills to live alone in a wormhole and make tons of isk.

C. I'm happy so far, not totally thrilled with amarr ships across the board, but in general I can't see myself flying other ships. I am very partial to not buying ammo and being lazy with t1 crystals.

D. I reached my self-sufficient wormhole goal a few months ago and dissapeared into my hermitage (c3 wh) for a while. I've since become bored with that life and i'm now moving on. Still working on my next set of goals though. I already fly most amarr subcaps so I think the next major decision becomes wether or not I should train for dreads and carriers or crosstrain caldari since I have a good deal of missile support skills for my khanid ships.

E. Not sure, I haven't ever made an alt. I am intrigued by the mass amount of isk that traders make though, if I did have an alt account I would probably make it a trader/freighter pilot just to see how well I could play the market game on the side. Of course, that's not likely to happen since I have a full time job and don't really log in enough for one account, much less two. Laughing

A. What is (or was) your master plan for your main character? To either solo or do main support for level V missions. I'm talking carrier there

B. Did you stick to your plan for the long haul or did you find yourself deviating? I rather changed it up, since right now level IV missions are doing well for me. So shield and drone skills are still relevant, but missiles are a no go.

C. Are you happy with what/how you trained, between the patches, nerfs, buffs, and remaps? Since I only started last year (EVE birthday coming up soon) I have to say I am pretty happy. Though I changed my direction a couple of times by now.

D. Have you reached any of your goals, if not, how close are you to reaching them? As far as being a skilled missioner, that has been accomplished. Original goal was to rule an empire, but that seems a pipe dream now.

E. If you started a new character today, what kind of plan would you create for it? Probably would train them for T3 and T2 cruisers for support in larger missions. That's really about it.

A. My master plan was originally to train for Marauders. After that I've broken my plan into 5 or 6 groups. I train a gruop that I've defined, then allow myself to deviate for 2-5 days, then commit to another group.

B. I almost always stick to a plan once I'm on the track. I only deviate if there is something that I have that I can't use.

C. Yes.

D. Very similiar plan.

A. No, started way before most of the skills now available even existed.
B. Deviated not one bit as there is no plan
C. Yes, though I would like to finally make use of those capital skills
D. Yes, though the goals keep on shifting Rolling Eyes
E. PvP or Research not decided yet (training both on the alt)
