The hole AFK cloaky thing is def something i think needs looking at, so my idea is simple have a pos mod which decloaks everything in system at random times, so both the claoker and the sov holders would have to keep active to ither recloak or try and catch said AFK cloak, the pos mod would go off at random times so not to give to much away on both sides, also this mod would gave a recloaking delay of lets say 30sec but thats a finer point. right let the idea bashing begin. fly safe all

I like it... Would be a good mod for a POS and for ships.
For the POS, it should have a skill like firing POS guns. Should be manually discharged and should have a timing cycle like guns on a ship so it cannot be constantly fired. It should have a range, starting in KM and expanding to AU.

For a Ship, there should be a similar mod with a smaller range.

This would allow you to catch a cloaked ship watching your POS and giving your positions away.

I like this idea too. I had thought about this before just never formulated a topic, but im glad to see I am not the only one thinking this might be a good idea.

A POS Mod that emits a system wide pulse deactivating any active cloaking device (friendly ships included). Personally I would make it system wide and not range limited.

Must hold sov to fire.
Can only be fired once every hour in the system.
Must be manually fired at the POS.
As said, recloak delay of 30 seconds.

As an added bonus it would also prove very interesting during POS warfare where scouts and bomber fleets can be exposed briefly. So not only does it deal with the AFK cloaker issue it also adds a tactical element to fights.

I think having a random time that it goes off would be better, as it keeps everyone thinking, i know that cloakys are made of tin foil and that anything tht makes them worse people hate but being AFK is just not what the game is about i think.

1 per system
Strategic 5
militry 5
Industry ? <-- not sure but should be hard to put in place so maybe lv 2 and up.

random pulze so that no one knows bar a visual flash maybe.
Recloaking delay so that its poss to scan the AFK pilot down.

I dont see any benefit to the random firing.

It removes any posibility of using it tactically (which I actually think is more important than using it to deal with AFK cloakers). You also could end up shooting yourself in the foot by decloaking your own fleet in your own system at the wrong time.

Since we are talking about only having it at POS in sov holding systems why would you put a module like that on when it could completely compromise the defence of your own system. You could of course offline it for such occaisions, but again you wouldnt be able to use it when it would actually be useful during system defence.

It needs to be thought of as another system defence POS module. The AFK cloaky annoyance factor is a bonus.

yep yep see your point, the random factor was more to keep people happy ie reward and draw back, def having the ability to fire it off would be a great plus,

No.

I don't know about you guys but I personalty have sat as a POS for 5 hours watching the people inside to get a kill. and getting decloaked will not only show that your watching them. in my case it will also show that I am in your system. the only way to see a ship in WH space is to D scan it or see it. So if your decloaking people then your not only showing that your watching people, in WH you are showing that there is people in your system, Jumping people is the only way to effectively kill people in the WH without POS bashing.

Well id think holding sov would be a rquirment for this mod so WH's would be safe or not safe or what ever wh's are, also in normal space local shows everyone so they already know your there, the Decloaking is so they have a chance to catch a cloaky forcing the pilot to play the game and not just sit there afk or not they would still be forced to recloak warp and so on,
def there would have to be a restriction to the mods use, fuel time what ever seems balanced but this mod could really work well for the anti cloaky.

maybe instead of just decloaking them they get a countdown timer of the mod locking on to the heat of the ship. so to stay clocked the ship has to warp say the play gets the notice from this random turn table and are given 60 seconds to warp.

Umm no, i dont think that would work in with my idea of system wide, but if it was per pos and on grid then maybe ya making it so that a cloaky can't sit next to a pos for to long could work i guess, but id much more perfer a system wide decloak then a localiced one.

it can still be system wide just if you force decloak then things will **** people off. if it because like an effect if you are afk and haven't warped it will lock you down and force the decloak.

That's just my two $.02 I know if I had a cloak that just would turn off randomly because of some pos mod then I would most likely get ****ed and make a forum just like this one saying why cant my ship stay cloaked.

I can't see how potentially being decloaked once an hour (assuming someone is around to even active the pulse) is going to annoy people. If you are active you can warp to a couple of safe spots and cloak again after the timer wears off. It is hardly taxing to avoid if you are active, which is exactly how is should be. You will then know that you have an hour to sit around cloaked as normal.

Here is the simple trick - Overheat mechanic

The cloak eventually overheats - lets say in 30 minutes 1 hour - you name it

if you turn it off to cool down (could be made fast) or even try to repair it while cloaked with nanopaste or something similar - you have working cloak

otherwise it just breaks and goes offline

there - name a single flaw please.

I like it ^^

the 1 hour time was added bysomeone else but i def think now it should be controled like pos gunners do, but have a expesive draw back fuel or time untill next use still.

As a mechanism against AFK cloaking this could work well. I just dont think CCP are interested in resolving that issue alone. By implementing the pos mod as a weapon you also add some combat element to it. If your idea has a flaw, to me, its that it does not give the defender any power to do something about cloaking in general. It perfectly solves the AFK issue, but I would like the idea to be expanded beyond just resolving that. (Im playing devil's advocate a bit here)

Well frankly saying i don't see the problem with non afk cloaking at all. The cloaked ships usually have marginal means of killing their target, most of the time requiring the help of their fleet. And it is not that you cant defend against them: you have local in k space as well as scan in both k and w spaces.

Not a new idea and just because you think it's needed, doesn't mean it is.

As and until the all powerful, 100% free intel, all seeing eye called local is replaced, AFK cloaking should remain. It is the tactic, that makes local somewhat unreliable at present.

If you want local to remain as is, (which I do, I might add) then AFK cloaking as a great psychological warfare tool, should stay.

Again with the afk cloak? I see no reason to believe that this is "def" something that needs to be addressed.

Like a true liberal, cloak nerf herders never stop throwing the same proposals out over and over again in hopes something sticks to their political advantage.

Not a bad idea.

I wouldn't be opposed to a POS module that could decloak around it as well......so long as it does friendly and foes alike.

Cloaking is perfect as is. Don't change it because of something like this. At least you have a local channel so you know that he's there.

No. Not unless we get something in return, like delayed or no local. For example today I warped to a ice belt and as I was enroute. I saw a mack and hulks on scan half way to the belt ice belt and the station warping back to the station. I was like. "****ing a." As I have gone to the trouble to figure out where they relatively ice mine, BM it in advance, etc. My prior planing, and effort is nullified by local. They haven't done any type of prep work or preplaning other then "if red appears in local warp to station".

So my only counter to local is afk. Like, hate it, it is what it is. If you want the ability to decloak me fine. I want at minimium delayed local or local removed.

as a pos mod this proliferates this to pretty much any system.. at least bind it to sovereignty and some kind of activity level.. so that the mod allows alliances to secure core systems but not every backwater ratting spot they have a pos in
