Edited by: Alex Cortex on 26/04/2011 03:31:25 Apparently Thursday's Mass Test will in part focus on the 'Carbon UI'. I've seen this mentioned a few times here and there, what is it? A new interface? All I know is Carbon is the engine that powers the new CC. Sorry for my ignorance. |

The Carbon UI is simply the replacement for the old, hard-coded UI that's been a major pain in the ass for every UI developer CCP has ever thrown at the problem for the past, oh, 8 years. Naturally, as the name suggests, it'll be a part of their Carbon technology platform and will probably see use in WoD somewhere down the line.
At first it'll just be a remake, but eventually they do plan on getting in new holographic elements (as seen in the trailers). |

Ah okay, that's what I thought. Is it a visual remake though, or just a recode (for now)? |

Correct, the assets haven't been changed yet (except the check boxes, as noted in the test forums thread), only the underlying code. |

Edited by: Renarla on 26/04/2011 06:48:04 They really need to just do a complete UI overhaul at some point, the biggest issue EVE has had since launch is the awful UI. |

Easy now, easy. Some people are just a little slow on the uptake. And then there's others like me...well, I've used various iterations of the UI since back to beta. Yeah, I'm one of the vets. Bitter? Not hardly, I don't keep banging my head on something and expect a different result each time. Suffice to say that I have seen UI elements change and grow and get worked on. What we have today is better than what we used to. For you newer players, for every problem you have with the UI (not counting that it's overall clunky and eats up gobs of screen space), there are a bunch of problems you're free of. As for changes in the pipe, let us hope that these will be functional improvements that relay important infos (hopefully player designated, as we can do now with different overview setups) in a space efficient, easily registered way. I don't want some futuristic widget that I have to squint at and knead my troubled brow to make sense of. Those holographic UIs from the trailers are pretty, but mainly they had better be USEFUL. So, here's hoping that Carbonizing Eve will pay off with big dividends for a new, better, less-laggy, less-screen gobbling, prettier, more informative UI. Easy as breakfast. Get cracking. |

From what I understood the changes are only in the coding to make things easier to fix and easier to add features, but the userend isn't changing other than the benefits that brings. Am I incorrect? (I hope?) |

Oh, the userend is changing, heh, you're forgetting to account for patch day bugs. |

Edited by: Virtue Maulerant on 26/04/2011 12:22:59 Basically,it will be 'behind the scenes' changes to the code on which the UI is based.I'll be really glad to see a radical visual and functional overhaul of the UI. |

would be nice to see some lua bindings for further customization. |
