Well, if you like we could put a man in there for you, no problem, whatever suits you Nah, its just that ppl relate better to other ppl than to machines, thats why so many scifi ideas revolve around interactive interfaces presenting themselves in human form (holograms, or androids, 2d-face). We build them like humans to put us at ease, not because machines are efficient that way (then tey would more look like insects). They don't have to do it this way of course, but everything is better then the textbox we have today. Thats my strong opinion on that, even if its a cliche. |

Agreed, just because something's been done before, doesnt make it a bad idea. Infact more often than not the exact opposite is true. At the very least you get to improve on something that works to make it work eeeeven better :) Still very much in support of the op and some of his core ideas, the feelings evoked by the video and also making that main screen have interesting and useful stuff on it!! |

Here's a novel idea: it should be optional, same as the rest of CQ. |

i would like seeing this on TQ. some changes needed on how it's done (like for the opening video and text, and the end), but it's obvious you can't do this yourself. i liked the use of the central screen to see video tutorials, and all these shiny infos/stats available hope we will get a dev post on this thread |

I would really like the ability to peek outside the station before undocking. Seems a little odd that with an environment as hostile as EVE that you can't gather information about the dangers lurking outside. |

Posting in epic thread.
Several of my friends have tried eve and given up right away due to the introduction being boring, too complicated and/or not intuitive enough.
I gave the new player experience on Duality a shot, but so far it simply doesn't cut it.
CCP, please take notice of this video! This is what is needed! |

Does any interview or blog exist that could explain what ccps take on some of these ideas is, they are not so terribly new or innovative, even if the visual representation helps getting a feeling how it could be.
I think we all expected something more, looking at the tutorial, than am textbox regarding Incarna. Any plans known? |

A couple of good ideas there.
The in/out of pod cut scenes should be easy enough to do too. Nicer to look at than a loading bar |

Very well done on the vid.
So why have a more visual approach to the new player experience? because it creates a lot more immersion than reading a text box as others have said before me. CCP need to really draw the player into the experience from the beginning as this is usually a critical time for any game and especially for people who have not played an MMO before. As long as there is an option for skipping the sequences then I don't see why anyone would havea problem with having the visual enhancements.
P.S Anyone remember Elite on the Sinclair Spectrum, when you docked it played the music from Space Odyssey 2001, you could skip it but I never did because it gave me a greater sense of immersion. |

I really like the interfaces for stuff being an actual monitor or hologram and the view zooming into it. Doom 3 did this 7 years ago--surely EVE can do it in Incarna.
It'd be really lackluster if clicking the hologram just brought up the normal window, like a glorified NeoCom button (which is exactly what it did when I tested it the other day).
I realize it's alpha or beta or whatever, but I hope they do that at some point. |

Rubbish.
Because you know what? I don't want to have to fondle through some clumsy interface to access the same functionality I've always had access to already.
Incarna "should" begin its implementation by offering new functionality and new features instead of trying to just connect in with existing functionality in such a clumsy manner.
THAT is why it will fail, and why 99% of older players see it as some novelty toy for new subscribers rather than a worthwhile addition to the game.
And sure, it has 'potential' to be awesome, but so has the rest of eve and yet CCP are still groping in the dark trying to fulfill that dream. |

One can clearly tell by the lack of C.C.P reply's.....that you are indeed on to something.
I kinda imagine a group of dev's watching this together ..then all saying at once...
oooooooooooohhhhhhh.......... so thaaaaat's how you do it.

I agree with you that it has to offer some functionality. But i'm not with you when you say its bad if its only for new subscribers. So what? Every game needs an constant influx of new players, as a vet myself i know that and welcome it. They want to make a better starting experience, tutorial and stuff, well fine with me. They want to use Incarna for that, fine with me. As a vet i have alot of other stuff to do, i don't need CQ to make me play EVE. If Incarna is an advanced tutorial and maybe a new way to present grouped data to station-huggers (traders maybe?) thats enough for starters. Well, its my opinion at least. Of course, once you limit it to these functions, then you have to expand on them, and make them appealing. Thats why i found the text-box tutorial and the interactive-links to existing windows just not good enough. |
