This is a proposal designed to improve communication between CCP and the players.

How soon is soon? To a particle physicist its picoseconds. To a geologist, its a million years. The term does not convey any information, saying it is a slap in the face. I propose CCP stop using it and replace it with

Minutes
Hours
Days
Weeks
Months

As appropriate. That way CCP can give us some idea of when to expect stuff without setting a deadline.

Then you would be confessing to being naive about how games are developed.

I think Soon™ is funny and a great way for them to communicate what they are working on with out having to place themselves into a time crunching commitment.

Soon™ is awesome, leave it be.

Okay, that was a much nicer way to explain why Soon™ is better.

It would be if it wasn't thrown around willy nilly.

Half of all the stuff they are "working" on and gets that attached is never released or made a mockery of on SiSi so they have to put it back in the 'could have been' pile.

Let it stay, but let it be akin to a contractual obligation to actually bloody finish whatever they slap it on!

A contract is a legally enforceable agreement between two or more parties with mutual obligations. The remedy at law for breach of contract is "damages" or monetary compensation. In equity, the remedy can be specific performance of the contract or an injunction. Both remedies award the damaged party the "benefit of the bargain" or expectation damages, which are greater than mere reliance damages, as in promissory estoppel - Wikipedia

What specifically would the gamer bring to this contract or the development process? Is any gamer with fifteen dollars entitled to more rights than a shareholders of the company and access to insider information about technology in development?

I do agree that when CCP says Soon it Frustrating as hell. That being said, when projects are in development you don't want something like "Walk-in-stations" which was proposed years in advace and the fact that they're just coming out with a fraction of what's been said is coming kind of hurts their image.

So CCP can keep there Soon but atleast tell us if soon. but publish something on the dev. blogs to tell us if they're having problems and have to delay, that it's going good and they've made headway, or that it's taken a back seat in order to finish tweeking the next expansion.

That way it's not a "deadline" but more along the lines of progress reports. We know they'll make them awsome... Eventually. (maybe not defender missiles).

While 'soon' may be frustrating, I don't see anything wrong with it. It would be nice if the developers could tell us exactly how long they will need to work on something, and when it will be in testing or live.

Yep, that would be nice. But regretfully real life doesn't work quite like that. Every time CCP speaks, the general playerbase listens intently and then proceeds to either miss the intent or completely misquote. And in the end, when things come out the way CCP intended them to (but these players didn't understand and came up with their own conceptions), players claim 'CCP LIES!'

Honestly, it's a wonder they tell us anything at all. I'm actually quite happy with the information I receive, no matter how vague ... which is far more than ANY other MMO on the market.

Think about it honestly, though. The better way (easier for both parties), is to simply not tell us anything at all.

Why inform a playerbase of all your brainstorming and concepts if they're just going to throw a tantrum whenever it takes longer than the two weeks they're prepared to wait ... or doesn't come out the way that specific player thinks it should be?

All of that said ... I'm tired of waiting for Incarna, hahahah ...
