Removes stat padding,
Allows more spying, hostile agent actions, betrayal
Creates drama, in fighting, conflicting stories
Doesn't instantly show winners of fleet fights, would make things harder to predict.

*loss mails too.

also removes a whole line of character history. the way it is now, some guys says he was involved in a titan kill and people can say, show me the mail. without mail, he can say anything he wants and there would be no way to tell if he's for real.

the killmail system is a lot of crap, with many opportunities to pad and for total idiots to end up with 98% efficiencies. total removal is not the answer.

This is a suggestion coming from a gamer who posted with a four month old character with no portrait, without standings towards any NPC Corporation and has one loss recorded at BattleClinic.

Fact: The validity of a suggestion is dependent on the person suggesting it Rolling Eyes

I have a middle-ground: Keep KMs, remove API verification.

Counter offer: Keep KMs, remove manual posting. Only API verified KMs will post.

so op....I am going to to make you an alliance/corp executive, in charge of ship reimbursement. With no killmails how do you verify a person in fact died in the op the reimbursement was authorized?

Next...how do you ensure the ship was fit to fleet spec?

Don't know where you have rolled if this an alt post...but wanting isk back from corp/ alliance always begins with a request with a km linky passed up the chain everyplace I have been on a combat char.

I thinks its a neat idea to armor tank my rokh even though fleet fit is shield fit...I ain't getting money back (if bs' were covered). Cap pilot runs a wtf obvious fail fit...better have more brains than balls to not put in a reimbursment package.

Remove Fitting and Cargo info from KMs. Only show participants, time, and location.

Though killmails are nice, I'm pretty much fed up with killmail w****s. Appearenlty im less 'l33t' if my logs consist of 5 kills, 2 losses all in solo pvp but the guy bragging in local has 50 kills (all noobies or blob kills) and 10 losses (all complete and utter failures). Those numbers don't reflect real killmail stats but are merely there for reference, though something similar did happen to me ingame. I can't fly 10 jumps for some pvp without someone ranting about my 'poor killboard' and when I nicely reply that I see no point in posting kills, he calls me a carebear. This has happened too me many many times. *sigh*

People are just so wrapped up in quantity over quality.

Replace each killmail with a smiley face sticker. Stickers are stuck on your captain's quarters mirror.
The bigger the kill, the bigger the sticker. Frigate = 1 centimetre squared sticker, Titan = 10 metre squared sticker.
The sticker is also divided amongst all those in a kill.
For example, if Drake #73463284 inflicts .2% damage against a titan, it gets .2% of a sticker.

Fleets can have the option of "scissors", which allows stickers to be split. If scissors are set to off, only the one who did the most damage gets a sticker, and the whole one at that.

Stickers can also be crafted into useful items. For example, you can craft 10 stickers into a Killer Hat of +5 Mana.
There will be other crafting options if you have more stickers, such as skill point potions. Stickers can also be bought with real life money.
You can customise the stickers you buy, so you can say "My Ibis killed an Aeon! Here's the sticker!", and everyone will believe you.

I believe the above vision of EVE will be best for everyone.

I think it's worth noting that a lot of people who play games, especially MMO's, like to see scores and statistical representations of how well they have been playing the game. Removing KM's would be like the Premier League without the league tables in a world where complexities and number of games made it difficult to document ongoing progress. (Excuse the loose analogy...)

I think it's fair to say that a lot of people like the RISK vs. REWARD aspect of EVE. For those that give a damn about kill efficiency or whatever, the risk is greater than simple ISK loss (which is more often than not quite easily recouped).

But all that aside. NO to removing them. Because the simple facts are:

1) If you're into PVP for the lulz, or not into PVP at all, then KMs are irrelevant.
2) If you're good at PVP then KMs only reflect well upon you.

The ONLY people who keep making the 'Remove Killmails' threads are the people who have some embarrassing loss histories: The people who wish they fell into category 2.
This having been asserted I can only assume that if you were better at PVP (or had checked that character's history before you bought it) then you would, in fact, be arguing AGAINST their removal.

TL:DR either KMs don't apply to your experience of the game or they do. If you care about your 'scores' then do us all a favour and stop whining about being bad at this game.

Yes. It would. But you're missing the fact that the 'stat padding' demonstrates how much people like having stats in the first place.

There is PLENTY of this in EVE already. This game has some of the best (or worst, depending on your POV) meta-gaming ever.

REMOVES drama. Nothing is verifiable: Everyone will simply disbelieve most of the best and most dramatic victories and losses of EVE.

Don't even really know what you're getting at here but regardless, those involved in the fight will always know whether or not the outcome was favourable.

Op, I personally would be none the happier if killmails were removed from the game entirely. But with that, there are players out there who play the game BECAUSE of killmails.

So while I don't care what KM's a person has or who they are, and take special precautions never to release KM's for my characters, I also don't care if other players love their little trinkets. If it floats their boat, and not yours, let em.

There's plenty of ways to mess up KM's so that they don't reflect properly on yourself. Maybe it's best if you find another way around the matter, instead of simply removing other people's fun.

Let the Killboard Cowboys play like they like to play.

Also removes the only part of PvP and Blob warfare that is acually fun.
