Am quite curious why people even bother about these 'royal' weddings. Inbred people who inherit money, titels and in some cases, power, for what good? Mostly feel sorry for the poor suckers who don't get a chance to a normal life.

Apart from that, I'll leave the sniping for this thread and they'll live happily ever after.

Now don't get me wrong.....

I am all for the royal wedding and it being a great cause for celebration (hell I am working the extra bank holiday DOUBLE PAY WAHOO!!)

but I am getting sick of hearing about it everwhere, seeing products related to the wedding by just having a picture of the couple stuck on it EVERYWHERE..

Seriously by now most people should be aware of the wedding
most people should know whats going on

Jeeez, just shut up and get it done already

Public funding for the event, 30 million.

Projected value for the UK economy, 3 billion.

Wink

I don't care about the entierty of the Uk economy. Following the same train of thought you can compare UK's economy to the entire worlds and say it is small. Or compare the biggest mansion on Earth to the size of the solar system and say it is samll. Irrelevant comparison.

Point is that thoose 30 million that can go into say cancer research or other things that is far more important that some random uselss "royalties" marrying. Outdated traditions like this needs to go.

Ahh the old, 'it could go to cancer research' argument. Nicely done. Cool

Build a hosptial, a school or something else for all I care. Just don't waste it by perpetuating some stupid outdated royal traditions that serves no prupouse other then to suck up resources. That was my point, and i used cancer as one example.

Other then that your commnet itself is also a classic idiots discussion tactic :)

That stupid outdated royal tradition is making the UK a pile of money and is part of our countries identity.

that's why having the strongest navy is the most important thing (or in the case of the US, having a large number of aircraft carriers and bombers that can fly around the world and cost 2 billion isk each).

Show me the numbers they make then. And do they really have to be royalty to make it? Could not soe other part of governmet do the same?

As for the image they make? Each to their own, I perfer not to have some ruling monarch part of my nations identity, but unfortunatly I still do :(. Why treat them with some kind of outdated respect that they do not deserve, just because they are born with "royal blood"? Ridiculous. Some traditions should go, and sometime making a new identiy is a good thing.

tourists would visit whether we had a royal family or not, countries without such outdated institutions are not devoid of a tourist industry.
also the 30m/3b ratio looks a little less impressive when you remove the money lost from the economy from most people having the day off and the tax loopholes companies will use to avoid paying tax on any extra revenue made. very little of this will end up back in the public purse.

I know this is a bit late but I have to laugh about the 'only people who watch soccer, care' comment - because, of course, only Americans watch soccer...

The rest of the world watches football, not soccer

The royal family cost the UK tax payer 36.7m last year. They made London 300 million in tourism alone last year which would not be made if they were not there because people go to see them not some government minister.

The only people who got high quality government were the rich english, everyone else got shafted.

If they hadn't, they wouldn't have asked the limeys to leave, would they? No one asks governments doing a great job to bugger off, do they? Well, except the rednecks, but what do they know?

That's not true at all. You criminals in the US didn't want to pay your taxes

Thank u T anyhow I like the Royal family and yes the are a big part of the UK Identity. People complain about them using taxs payers but they arrogantly ignore the wast of money going to the EU....

I thought the US was supposed to be "the land of the free"? I mean, assuming you've actually given meaning to those words that is, the freedom to enjoy the event in all its splendid ridiculousness, or not, as you please.

Unless they're broadcasting the wedding night bedroom tussle too, don't wake me up even if that mentioned above happens.

I am a Royalist at heart I guess but I was utterly non-plussed by the wedding.

Then I started to watch it and got suckered in... to be honest it looked like a brilliant affair.

I especially loved the Battle of Britain fly past. Sounded ****ing awesome in surround sound.

So this is what an argument over British politics look like...

Also, American media attention for the royal wedding does not equal American interest in your royalty getting married. Most Americans really wouldn't give 2 ****s about your overpaid figureheads getting hitched...

Idiot. It's not the media attention that's the problem, it's women that are the problem. Two billion people didn't watch the wedding, it was one billion women plus their one billion boyfriends/husbands being forced to watch.

Because of my wife, I wound up watching the carriage ride from the church to the palace and all I could think was, "Open air carriage? Long lines of sight? A pair of snipers? Imagine the ratings." I did manage to bow out before the balcony kiss.
