Would it be reasonable to add a mechanic to allow a player to scan down a cloaked ship that has not warped within say an hour? I'm looking for one of two answers. Either you agree that the ability to scan down afk cloakers is a bad idea OR that you agree, adding a coutermeasure to afk cloaking would benefit the game.

Would it be reasonable to remove local in null sec, so you don't have an instant intel tool?

Either you agree that local is OP and needs removing. Or you want it to stay and therefore AFK cloaking is and will remain a viable counter.

the best countermeasure would be the removal of local userlist

The best countermeasure to AFK cloaking is to have more blues in local than the cloaker's fleet can bridge in once the cyno goes up. Bigger blob wins, and all that.

Alternately, don't rat in battle-ship sized vessels, so the SB cloaker can't pop you while you're ratting.

In the meantime, altering the cyno mechanism might help people become less scared of "AFK" cloakers. Perhaps add a spool up time to the cyno itself, or the jump/bridge drives that allow new ships to arrive at that location by magic.

Not that this will actually help anyone, since it doesn't matter if it takes another 30 seconds for the cloaker's friends to arrive when he's got you webbed and jammed because of Falcon. But at least it might make people feel braver =)

Other than that, the best mechanic to beating "AFK" cloakers is to learn to bait them. Which also implies learning how to trap them once they take the bait.

Here's how to perfectly counter AFK cloaking.

1: Continue to use system as normal.

2: there is no 2, that's the only step.

If the guy is afk, you have nothing to worry about and by not using the system, you're letting him win. If he Isn't afk, you will probably get ambushed, which is working as intended. Rat in a fleet and work together to fight off any ambushes, if you can't do that then you don't deserve your space.

I will support this, but lets make it fair..

Give at least a 30+s aggro timer on rats, players, etc. where you cannot dock or cloak (warping doesn't effect this timer).

So you cant just hide when some non-consensual pvp comes knocking at your door.Wink In return, if the cloaker does attack you, you have a time window to find and kill it.

Stargate is also a pretty darn good countermeasure.

Shhh, common sense plays no part in this discussion.

Why I love the afk threads...chances are there the afk cloaky was put there by a corpie lol. The sanctum and have haven nerf might make this way more popular longer it goes on lol...

I like my Cov Ops Cloak thank you.

This is Sci-Fi. Cloaks are supposed to be invisible to everything. That is what ISSAC ASIMOV THE GOD FATHER OF SCI-FI DESIGNED THEM FOR OH SO MANY YEARS AGO!!!

So once again...

STOP FU***ING WITH MY SCI-FI D***IT!!!

And see these other threads where other people and I shot down your idea a MILLION TIMES BEFORE. Laughing
