I recall seeing the future of eve clip from fanfest and I was pondering how combat in stations would be like. This is clearly speculation.

Would it be FPS or maybe more like Mass Effect in third person? I have always been fairly decent at FPS games but while playing Mass Effect I quite like its cover system and various special abilities that have cooldowns. Could a FPS have a viable cover system like ME? Of course I know you can manuever yourself into cover in first-person but would it be dynamic enough so you can launch yourself out of cover and take potshots before diving back?

Well given that the plan WAS(I am putting in brackets what I honestly feel is a far more realistic timeframe given how things are going now on their end and from dealing with other MMO developers who got a bug in there ass and declared that they were going to make there own graphics engine, and trust me when I say that THOES idiots were not trying to be as bleeding edge as CCP is being right now)

Within 6 weeks(late summer at the latest) locked into your room all by yourself

summer 2012 (Dec 2012) Locked into a self created room/house with your own self selected furnishings

2013 Summer (sum 2014) locked into a room with you and a (Very few) freinds

2014 (Winter 2015)Sims1 EvE-open for buisness type game.

Frankly for a small scale combat(1-4 players + any NPCs) in stations enviroment with Carbon <tm> the earlyest they were looking at was 2015 and frankly 2017 would be pushing it

the problem is that they are hopeing that moors law will dig them out of the hole they have dug for themselves with this project.

The reality is that Moors law has to deal with:

Amdahls Law (basicaly a law that proves that the speedup of a program using multiple processors in parallel computing is limited by the sequential fraction of the program. Graphic processors have been shown to be especialy problematic in this area when runnig on multiple processors when dealing with Animated images)

The developers have to put up with Wirths law (Software is getting slower more rapidly than hardware becomes faster) and Gates Law which actualy codifies the RATE at which software slowes down (The speed of software halves every 18 months) in this case its caused by a combination of feature creap and the Arts people insisting that there next projects needs to be FAR more detailed than the last one.

and realise that I honestly have not adjusted for the impact of Hofstadter's law on my estimate...

Then they'll promote Scotty as security station chief and then he'll snap and began to gank all the capsuleers Screaming DOCKING RIGHTS DENIED!!!!
