For PvE, will heavy drones do well against cruisers? Or should I stick to medium drones for cruisers, and use lights for frigates?

Asking because I will soon be starting L2 missions with a drone boat.

Stick with mediums. Their travel speed and tracking makes up for any perceived lack of DPS.

Go with Hammerheads (damage modifier tends to outweigh any damage type disadvantages) or if you're fortunate to need to deal explosive damage, go with Valkyries as they are faster and have better tracking than hammerheads which evens things up a bit. They'd also do well against frigs so depending on drone space, they might be your initial choice if you can only take a rack of mediums but if you can take lights as well, go with Hobgoblins for use against frigs - the difference is noticeable.

Weeeeell…

Not really. Hammerheads are best for thermal- and EM-weak enemies (Sansha, Blood Raiders, Mercs, Drones). For Angels, you want explosive drones, and for everything else, you want kinetic. The advantage in damage output is perhaps not that large, but these drones offer other hidden advantages that make them better even if you only end up doing a couple of % more damage (e.g. better tracking and higher speed).

For a one-size-fits-all solution, though, Hammerheads (and Hobgoblins for frigates) will do nicely.

I don't even use medium drones anymore. Use lights for frigs/destroyers and maybe a few cruisers depending on what they are then heavies for everything else . honestly I think mediums are useless as far as missioning is concerned . of course I am flying droneboats with bonuses to drones dmg and such hope it helps

Lights and mids for frigs, sentry for bs and cruiser, heavy for nothing.

T2 sentries for anything that happens to hang out farther then 20km's. ugh

For lvl 2's a set of lights pops rats as fast as they can reach them, assuming ofc. that you have good drones skills and a drone bonused ship.

I've killed frigs with Ogre IIs before.

They're slow to get there but IIRC they melted face.

Stick with 5 lights and 5 mediums for best results.

Sounds like you are Gallente? If so you are probably facing Serpentis rats, so use Hobgoblins and hammerheads (as previously mentioned)

You want to use kinetic drones against serpentis.

I'd only consider deploying heavies if the rats were at close range, otherwise their travel time pretty much renders them useless as my guns will pop the targets before the heavies reach them.

If you're just dpsing purely with drones and have the capacity to carry x5 sentries, heavies, mediums and lights, then there might be moments where heavies come in handy, but not many.

Heavies come in handy whenever you have to deal with close range enemies, they really shine with: Drone Sharpshooting 5, Drone Navigation 5 and of course Drone interfacing 5 and are capable of eating BS/Cruisers hulls in just seconds with max skills. Sentries are premo for instant long range dps but tracking can suck when targets get within a certain range of you.
