Hello all,

Me and some friends have got an Orca and 4 Hulks between us, can anyone help us out as we want to start hi sec mining, and just need some guidance.

*what is best ore to mine for isk/per hour.
*What kind of isk can we look at making doing this?
*Any other tips are welcome.

We thank you for your patience in this topic,

1) Do your own math.

2) Do your own math!

3) Seriously, run the numbers!

Thanks for the help, go troll someone who cares if you would.

Is there anyone else who is slightly less bored than the above guy?

No one is going to tell you the answer. As soon as someone tells on a public forum what makes the best isk per hour(be it mining, PI, trade or whatever) then all the dumb **** lemmings who cant do the math for themselves will jump right on it and drive the price into the ground.

Arkonor... but since you're in high-sec you'll want Pyroxeres and Kernite (if it's in your area). Reference

That's not a straight forward answer. It depends on your skills, boosts, implants, equipment, crystals, time mining vs travelling, what your mining, etc. You really do need to run your math for this one.

"what is best ore to mine for isk/per hour"

Changes constantly. For more or less up-to-date guidelines, try http://www.bsacse.amxg4.com/tools/index.php?id=oreincome

"What kind of isk can we look at making doing this"

Depends a lot on how you do it (is anybody hauling ? who, the orca or somebody else you didn't mention ? yourselves to station ?), where you are and how selective you are (in highsec, belts near hubs are usually stripmined fast, and stripmining everything is usually the best way to do it since you can empty a whole belt really quickly with a good team, so selecting just the best ore is counterproductive) and on what skills/implants/fits you guys use/have and so on and so forth.
Anything between 5 mil and 20 mil ISK per hour per person is possible, considering all possible extremes.

With 4 hulks and an orca in high sec, you should be able to completely clean out most belts within a couple of hours. That's probably going to be your best strategy, rather than trying to focus on what one rock out of 4 or 5 possibilities in your region may give you a few more pennies per hour.

Seconded. The best ore to mine in high-sec is ANYTHING IN RANGE OF YOUR LASERS. Strip it, pack it in the orca, warp off to empty it, and come back before the cycle finishes. Refine it later.

As the very least, it gives the team time to get a feel for the playstyle and the market. I have to admit that I'm a little surprised at the thought of a whole mining fleet being trained up without anyone in the group having a business plan.

Depending on your skills, you can clean out a high sec belt in around an hour to an hour and a half with 4 miners. What an entire belt will make you depends on sec and whether it's "fresh" (not mined by others for a while). In my experience you'll get between 40m and 60m (0.5/0.6) in minerals.

4 hulks and an orca you unambiguously want to mine everything in the belt in hisec.

/agreed!

leave no stone (or roid) unturned. mine EVERYTHING! refine everything! sell everything!

from that, do the math. in an EXTREMELY LOOSE approximation: you can make anywhere to a few million a day, to a few million an hour.

as the above posts have said: do the math...

Maybe they just all got together now.

Like the people said, the absolute best thing you could do would be to find a nice quiet .5 system, with no stations or POSes, put up your own POS and mine everything til you've got full corp arrays, then load a freighter.

Do that for awhile, build an isk reserve, buy a Class 2 wormhole, move in, enjoy watching your mining profits go through the roof because of your hard work on mining skill infrastructure.

You forgot the next step - get murdered by a PvP wormhole corp because you have no prepared security or fighting ability and lose everything.

Then the next step, start over.

This sounds reasonable. I would add that it is imperative to get started on probing so you get access to nice fat highsec belts and arent limited to the tiny roids that almost forces you to use a roid scanner.

Hello Phelzier,

I am quite sure all of your questions can be answered...privately. I too have a small mining crew of 3-Hulks & 1-Orca; that is EASILY capable of earning $500 Mil to $1 Bil per mining op, in high-sec. Contact me if interested. Exclamation

it's easy.

A hulk can mine about 100Km3 a hour. Without Orca bonus.

A full jetcan go's for about 2.5-2.7 mill ISK. For any highsec ore.
A jescan is 27500m3
2.5mill/27500m3= 91 isk for 1m3
100Km3 X 91 = 9.1 mill for a hour mining.
4 hulks X 9.1mill = 37 mill for a hour mining.

So i think you will get about 40 mill a hour mining with 4 hulks and a 1 Orca.

That a hulk can mine about 100Km3 a hour is somewhat wel knowned.
if you go to this site you will find the ore price.
You will see that a full canflip wil go for about 2.5-2.7 mill ISK.
Bring it down to 1m3. You will get the 91 isk / 1m3.

This is just to easy.

Ans yes you can have a nice profit from mining.
If you all mine for like 23/7 Mad
9 mill a hour. 9mill X 23 hours = 207mill
207 mill X 30 day's = 6210 mill every 30 day's. Thats 6.2 bill every 30 day's.

If you get 10 accounts and al hulks mining. you will get 62 bill ISK every 30 day's.
62 bill ISK - 10X 370mill isk for plex = 58 bill isk every 30 day's.

Now if you have a realy good internet connection. And have 5 computer. All running 10 accounts with hulks and Orca's.
5 Computer X 10accounts(58bill) = 290bill ISK every 30 day's.

And yes this can be done. And yes some players do this. And no not me. XD

No!!! Botting is not a problem.Crying or Very sadEvil or Very MadRolling EyesExclamation

thinking of it.

thare are about 19,046 hulks in use. If i take look at QEN_Q4-2010.pdf.

if just say. 60% of the hulks are mining 23/7 (bot's) = 11400 hulks
6.2 bill X 11400 hulks = 70680 bill ISK every month.

100K m3 every hour. 100Km3 X 23 hours X 30 Day's = 69.000.000 m3 every 30 day's.
11400 X 69.000.000 = 786.600.000.000 (787bill)m3 ore every 30 day's.

Shocked

You should average around 8 mil per hulk per hour. That's the general high-sec mining average.

I'm assuming you're in a single small corp since they're a dime a dozen.

First off you should look at adding another orca to your fleet, preferably on a second account, so that one can haul and one can AFK boost. If you can't set up an orca alt set up an itty V second account to haul. Your hauler should have tractors in the highs and be able to haul 27500m3+ at once..

Second, scout around for your mining site. The best highsec mining is in systems that are a fair distance from any major hub, don't have stations and preferably aren't in busy pipes. Pretty much ignore caldari space when looking for mining systems. Amarr, Ammatar and Khanid space has good mining in some 0.5 systems.

As far as what to mine, just grab everything in sight. You're only making isk if your lasers are on and the difference in value between the various ores isn't that big. Pair your Hulks off with one taking (for example) veldspar and kernite and the other taking scordite and pyroxeres. Unless the rats jam, have the hulks tank them if at all possible (and it should be). I'm not a fan of mining drones but letting the hulks tank the rats would allow you to use them.

Once you've found a mining site (or several), set up a tower there if there's no station present. Just a small tower (any) and a large ship assembly array will do. This is so your poor hauler doesn't have to travel a jump or more to drop off ore during ops. Someone (with a freighter) will have to haul the ore to the office afterward but with a freighter it's less aggravating. The tower also provides a place for the booster orca (or any other AFK'er) to park. Offline the tower after you have hauled ore.

Lastly, move your HQ somewhere less expensive.

I must be the only one that expects a punchline after the title:

"So, 4 Hulks and an Orca warp into an asteroid belt..."

I do agree with the advice of stripping everything in the belt. With the Orca well placed, the Hulks may not even need to move with the laser range optimization mining gang link.

I like to keep a frigate with a MWD in the Orca (preferably an Interceptor), so that it can scout belts and provide a warp-in point. Many belts are over 100 km from the beacon, and that takes eons to traverse in a Hulk or Orca. One of the Hulk pilots can switch to the scout ship, then back to a Hulk.

I run 1 Orca and 4 hulks in Amarr space. I have to say that most of the numbers in the replies here are accurate. I can usually pull in around 50 million ISK in minerals in .6 space in about 2 hours or so.

I keep an itty 5 in the Orca to haul when the Orca gets full. The hulk pilot mining veld will switch out to the itty 5 when the Orca is full and haul. Once the Orca is empty, a quick switch back to the hulk. Rinse and repeat.

I have mined with 2 orca's and 4 hulks. We found it worked best to use the 2nd Orca as a hauler. Especially if in a system with no station.
Somebody mentioned to mine it all and sell it all. I would agree. I usually wipe out one belt including veld in about 2 hours depending on the belt. Sometimes we leave some veld behind to move on to the next belt.

Contact me in game if you want more details. Happy to help you out.

In a round about way I have something related to this to ask.

When do you go from more hulks to hulks + orca?

So assuming you have someone else hauling, and everyone has perfect mining skills when do you add the orca..
1 hulk, then go 2 hulks (assuming better than 1 hulk one orca)
2 hulks + orca or 3 hulks.
3 hulks + orca or 4 hulks?
oh and as an addendum to that.. how does the rorq fit into that mix?

Some people are trolling I think but thats mostly irrelevant, but heres the point to what I said:

The micromanagement required to mine only the most valuable ores with 5 ships will require a large amount of time to be spent moving about the system. It will require jetcan mining with the orca not present, and in the time you spend working around not sucking up all the roids will nullify the extra profit from only mining the sweet stuff.

#tweetfleet veld 94.6 ~ sco 91.3 ~ pla 88.2 ~ omb 86.1 ~ ker 110.8 ~ pyr 124.3 ISK/m3 Tue Apr 5 12:59:28 2011 (Rens)

To mine only Viscous Pyroxeres would be absurd.

A maxed mindlinked Orca pilot gives a bonus of:
mindlink bonus / (1 - link * mining director * warfare specialist * mindlink bonus * orca bonus)
= 1.15 / (1 - 0.02 * 5 * 1.5 * 1.5 * 1.15) = 1.5514, or 55% more ore

Hulk = 100%
Orca + Hulk = 155% max
2x Hulk = 2 * 100% * 1.15 = 230% max
Orca + 2x Hulk = 2 * 100% * 1.55 = 310% max
3x Hulk = 3 * 100% * 1.15 = 345% max
Orca + 3x Hulk = 3 * 100% * 1.55 = 465% max
4x Hulk = 4 * 100% * 1.15 = 460% max

So in this case when you have 4 pilots, putting one of them in a maxed Orca is better.

Quote:
oh and as an addendum to that.. how does the rorq fit into that mix?

Do your own math Razz

A maxed mindlinked Rorqual pilot gives a bonus of:
mindlink bonus / (1 - link * mining director * warfare specialist * mindlink bonus * rorqual bonus)
= 1.15 / (1 - 0.02 * 5 * 1.5 * 1.5 * 1.5) = 1.7358, or 74% more ore

Hulk = 100%
Hulk + Rorqual = 100% * 1.74 = 174% max
2x Hulk = 2 * 100% * 1.15 = 230% max
2x Hulk + Rorqual = 2 * 100% * 1.74 = 348%
3x Hulk = 3 * 100% * 1.15 = 345% max
3x Hulk + Rorqual = 3 * 100% * 1.74 = 522% max
4x Hulk = 4 * 100% * 1.15 = 460% max

So in this case when you have 3 pilots, putting one of them in a maxed Rorqual is better.
