Since incarna is coming sometime in the next 1 - 30 years.. I was wondering firstly if you were to go somewhere and be able to look outside the station, enjoy the view, have some lols.

Maybe like a Ten Forward in Star Trek TNG. But then that makes me wonder, will you be seeing things actually going on outside the station? Or will it just be a static background? Which makes me thinks that'd be instanced.

So lets say, it's not instanced. And what if youre in the lounge, and you see a bubble that gets dropped outside the undock. All of a sudden, now you know not to undock, even without any intel. Just from seeing it, or could you just sit and watch fights going on outside?

But what if it is instanced and you're looking outside and everything looks fine, but then you undock and there's 80 drakes outside?

*shrugs* Just curious.

Many threads on this.

CCP has said No because that would require the equivalent of a ship on grid for every person looking out the window, adding to lag.

But many players have suggested workarounds to that, like a single thin client that just produces a video stream (like the Jita cam in the last alliance tournament), and everyone looking out the window would see that stream. Other workarounds have been proposed, but ATM CCP is not going to do it.

Who wants to look out of a station only to see 20-30 station campers?

Yea, why bother using creativity to do something cool when you can make up an excuse and do nothing.

What if there's a guy hiding in his gank ship behind the station? O_o Will there be a window on each side so I can get a full view all around? :D

For that exact reason: to see IF there are any campers (or rather, any that pose a threat).

At the very least they could let us see our overlay.

I was under the impression CCP was looking to prevent docking if you got warp scrambled and hence the reason for needed to look outside the station before undocking, I feel this might come in later editions of station structures aka a window in your room

In the future vision video, the character observes ships through a window in the station so it looks like something they are aiming for.

Why not just ask in ur alliance comms if its clear outside of station?

It would be easier than running to a window that shows the environment outside. Plus windows would only show a certain area of the outside environment. It just seems like too much hassle.

It would be easier to give a zoomable rotatable view of the station before you undocked.

Even if they allowed looking out of the station, if we are outside our pods then we have no access to ship sensors for something like the overview to function. That means what we would see is determined by eyesight... and a ship that is 20-70 km away from the station isn't going to show up very well.

It's rumored to be introduced in Incursion 1.5
