So I can fly a nal and a rev, skills arent maxed but not too far from max either. Is there even a point to maxxing dread seeing as ive only seen posts and ship mods that say dreads basically suck at everything other than being the first ship targetted by a fleet.....

How is this possible? How can ccp let this go on I mean come on its a dreadnaught...a CAPITAL ship. It should be called weenienaught. : (

Any help with a fitting for a decent dread would be appreciated as well ty.

They can still be usefull as a cost efficient cap for hitting towers and supers. They've also already had their glory days, new isn't bad.

The problem really boils down to a simple fact; they cannot run away when it goes sour, hence why people prefer marauding gangs of supercaps (Woohoo! exit cyno ---> *woosh*)

If you think you will spend a long time shooting towers/sov structures get a dread.

Opinion will be divided on which one you should get. For my money go for the Naglfar as it usually delivers the highest damage to POS towers as it can tailor its damage type to suit. On paper a Rev has higher DPS but its fixed damage types mean that in practice the Nag should come out on top.
As far as tank goes they can both standup to a POS for a decent amount of time and thats all that matters cos in a fleet fight situation you get primaried = you die.

I you aren't going to spend your life sieging towers and you still really want a cap ship get a Carrier. Specifically an Archon. Carriers still find lots of use around Eve even if they are totally overshadowed by Scars. Theyre cheaper than Dreads too.

Ty furious, looking at my skills I am obviously missing the drone skills for carrier, what else would u suggest...im coming back to eve been gone about six years so the availability of caps is still staggering to me...does that carrier u suggested shield or armor tank?

You have the base prereqs for the ships you want to fly, but none of the support skills.

IE: you can use the fits, but you can't really use it at any bit close to full capabilities.

Hmm, seeing this discussion makes little noob me want to ask: I know you need an alt in order to move any capital ship around. An alt already means a time investment(even if it's just one with enough sps to light a cyno).

What is the personal use for a carrier? Aside from farming sanctums really well and being the target with the most love received from awoxers, hotdroppers and roaming gangs?

If you are playing solo(as in no friends or corpies to fly with)

you don't need to fly a cap ship.

The Archon is the Amarr Carrier. It's an armor tanker with a bonus to, amongst other things, armor resists.

Carriers fulfill the role of capital scale logistics. The Archon specifically has long range remote armor reps and energy transfers and like all carriers can do a maximum of 1000 dps with max skilled fighters.

As far as skills go obviously you need the pre-reqs but further to that you will need Jump Drive Calibration and Jump Fuel Conservation at 4 which means training jump drive operation to 5.
You'll need Capital Remote Armor and Energy transfers which means training armor and enegy transfers to lvl 5 and you'll also need maxed out support skills in order to get the best from the ship, specifically hull upgrades, armor compensations, energy ops and management and the assorted non-size specific drone support skills (sharpshooting, durability, navigation).

You'll also need to be part of a fleet before you even think about using a Carrier but thats a whole other subject.

Hope that helps

Transporting your rigged ships and "stuff" around eve when you need to change deployment (great), small scale hotdrops, assigning fighters to your ratter, prerequisite for the own mobile that is motherships.

edit: and for the op's question which cap he should go for it depends on your situation. Just like you don't need a freighter until you understand what to use it for. Carriers are pretty versatile while dreads are very much a one trick pony, carriers has more support skills to train though.

Hi, the best carrier for you would be the archon (amarr). You already have amarr BS 5, however you are very far away from flying it properly. Main use of a carrier is for Repping. I mainly use mine as a dps/rep ship that can sit somewhere and secure that field for small engagements. I recently got Jump drive calibration to 5 and am learning that i can jump almost anywhere i want to go in empire within 1-2 jumps. You need alot of drone skills, carrier skill, remote armor repair to 5 for capital remote armor repair, logistics to 5 if you want triage, some navigation skills, capital armor reps to 4, armor compensations to 4, targeting to 5, and i would get capital ships to 4. I dont have triage as i find the idea of me sitting there with no drones out lame. Triage is the highlight of the carrier tho.
Also noticed you didnt have energy management to 5. (Core skill)

Proof i can fly a carrier as well =P

Yes i know i dont have heavy drones to 5, its on the list.
I'll look at this thread in a day or two if you have any questions.

There has to be something horribly wrong with dreads when a dread thread change to a get a carrier thread

The proliferation of supercaps ensures that Dreads remain second-tier. Consider some numbers:
An Aeon can do 8,000 DPS with fighter-bombers, and perform a logistics role for the corp as well. An Avatar can do over 4,500 DPS without having to go into siege, and can house a Titan Jump Bridge.

A Revelation, on the other hand, can't do more than about 7,000 DPS in siege and that's if you've got eight heat sinks installed (an absurd fitting.) If you siege with two heat sinks, you do over 5,500 DPS, but you're still stuck in position for the duration. If you don't siege, you actually do less DPS than a Battleship.

I'm using Amarr caps as an example because those are the ones I've trained for, but the situation is the same for any race. Dreads just aren't all that cost-effective at this point.

Skip the Dreadnought and get a bunch of Carriers instead. Semi-expensive Dread with the ten minute siege cycle and very limited actual use compared to dirt cheap and insanely effective RR/Drone platforms .. it is no contest.
NB: Dreads are historically more likely to be blobbed by 3rd parties (lol-SC drop) as well due to being stuck for ten minutes at a time.

I too have all relevant skills as high as they will go but have no capital now nor will I even consider it before the dust settles.
Not only are SC's in for a whack but jump ranges and capabilities of all capitals are likely to be revised this year as CCP's next attempt at sorting null rolls out.
