With the release of Windows 7 SP1, the Remote Desktop application now comes with RDP 7.1 protocol support. In other words, you can now run 3d applications (EVE included) over RDP.

After updating two of my Win 7 boxes to SP1 and testing, it appears that everything works pretty good. Frame rates aren't fantastic, but still very usable.

So, for those of you at work behind a firewall (that allows RDP) and decent bandwidth to your home computer, now there's really no reason to get anything productive done in the day.

If the sys admin at my place of work allowed RDP, he'd be fired!

Ha! We use RDP all the time in the normal course of work. They can't block it without preventing us from doing our jobs. Cool

There's really no reason to block it, though. There is nothing that can be accessed within the employer's network through a RDP connection, that is not more easily passed in and out via email or other permitted protocols.

You idiots. You realize that this will make botting even easier now right?

Who exactly are you calling idiots? Why would microsoft give a **** that enabling 3d support in remote desktop is going to make botting easier?

Quick Question. Do we care if the 'Client' Machine has Windows 7 SP1 or if the 'Server' Machine has Windows 7 SP1?

Both. At this stage you need RemoteFX enabled server and RemoteFX enabled client. Both come with SP1 (both for Windows 7 and Server 2008 R2).

I said at this stage because Microsoft might want to release standalone RDP client package or an update for Vista but I wouldn't bet at it.

Needs business or ultimate for the server too from the looks of things, home versions don't have RDP host.

Wow that's a pretty big deal.

They do, you just have to patch a certain file to accept connections.

Sp1 nuked my ability to connect to 127.0.0.2 via mstsc and log in as a different user by replacing said file. So either I revert to an old version or wait for a new patch.

I really need that ability back too. Sometimes you just need an account with admin rights for the stuff you can't properly elevate for..

You really don't know how this whole botting thing works, do you?
