Bad Company 1 and 2 and Battlefield 2: Modern Combat all have singleplayer modes. Battlefield 2 has bots, not sure whether 2142 has them. As much as it pains you, all are Battlefield games - Bad Company isn't just Bad Company, it's official name is Battlefield: Bad Company.
Since when does the inclusion of a singleplayer mode mean that a game is "like CoD"? Personally i welcome the addition. It's a nice break from multiplayer, a mode where you can play at your own tempo and just kick back to enjoy the show.
MP and SP are also made by different teams, so i really don't see the problem here. Do you want to fire the SP team or make them work on MP? In that last case, have you ever tried changing a lightbulb with 10 people? Because that's what you're asking them to do, apparently.
Programming, game design etc are just like changing a lightbulb. A certain number of people is enough to do it, throwing more at it will just make it inefficient and in some cases even dangerous. People seem to think that throwing "more money and more people" at anything will always solve it, even though you can plainly see it's all wasted effort. DICE right now have a team working on MP which is over 100 people strong. However, they were either asked by EA or wanted to include SP themselves, and since they actually have the resources for it they made another team to make singleplayer.
They use the same technology and game mechanics, though both are done from MP to SP, not the other way around.
I seriously don't get this aversion to singleplayer modes for Battlefield. Why this obsession with looking a gift horse in the mouth? What possible reason could there be to believe that "singleplayer will kill Battlefield"?
