So, I am in Forge and there are no research or copying installations available. I suppose other people have noticed this before maybe. Any planned changes to the game to correct this situation, or is this just another go-play-WOW moment?

You always go either to low-sec or another region.
There are bound to be more slots available somewhere else than the busiest region in eve.

No, this is a stop-b******g-and-setup-a-POS moment.

You can have as many slots as you need with your own POS.

I started out joining the wait queue in hisec. Found I could usually get a 9 day or less queue. Then I found that there were empty slots in Curse, so did a lot of research down there, though it was a long trip, and risky (lost 2 BPOs, luckily cheap ones). Then I setup a POS, and have more slots than I can keep busy.

either setup your own POS or just put it in the queue and wait

You will rarely see an "empty" slot for ME and copying in high sec. Find one with the lowest time left, then add to the queue.

If you want to do large amounts, the you will need a POS with the research labs on it.

If you want just one or two - you are better off buying a researched one from contracts (just make sure it is a BPO and not a BPC).

Oh, right, I totally forgot about all the free research slots in Curse and Tenal and Jovian space and stuff. Silly me. While I am there I will load up on Arkonor and Estamel modules and stuff so I can fund my new research POS's.

I think the issue here is that CCP is charging 1000 isk/hr so people are camping the slots. This is what happens when the government plays landlord.

i was going to mention how cheap a small pos really is but since you obviously have some major attitude problem even when people help.. nah.. enjoy the que.

I trained to fly a Covert Ops to go there. It was the first tech 2 ship I could pilot. The only other ship I had at the time was an Osprey for mining.

It isn't so far out of reach as you make it out to be.

Rolling Eyes
one of the issues is that people don't understand ME, so will do a months worth because they can.
now it's much better than before when you could camp a slot - permanently ...
if you don't want to put up a POS or go though a research corp / alliance then HTFU and slap it in the queue - also try not as close to jita....

- Find a system away from major hubs.

- Anchor a PoS in lowsec.

- Find someone with a PoS in lowsec, and negotiate for a slot.

- Join a corp with a PoS in lowsec, and use theirs.

Well you could always setup one man corporation and then join one of those research alliances.

... or you could ask some kind soul to do some research for you, maybe even free.

looking to do research in public labs you need to think waaaaay ahead.

What I do is keep certain ones in research or qeues constantly. This my me stuff. This takes a bit...think ahead in months.

Copy work...jsut spam them constantly for bulk items. After about a month or 2 of spamming should have nice buffer collection of bp's to ride out wait qeues. Make copy alts on spare slots if motivated on the account(s) you have. trains quick (quicker now with learning gone...this was unmodified training when I did it when I started). Or if the alts there already....add copy skills to them. Then they spam copies. This frees up the primary indy to do only me fixing and inventions. Works well enough till I pos it up anyway.

I think this post pretty much explains the problem.

Obviously the rental cost of slots needs to be dynamic and increase until at least 1/4 of the slots of the station are open. Allowing players to lock up copy slots for months at a time for free is not balanced gameplay.

Oh, wait, I forgot, the dev's characters and the other "important" people in the game all have POS's with research arrays so they don't need public slots. I guess it's not a problem after all.

Actually, it is.
You have exactly the same chance as anybody else to get those cheap research slots for yourself.
The others are willing to wait that long for that privilege. Why aren't you ?

There is minimal effort and moderate cost involved in putting up a highsec research POS yourself. People sell corps with the needed standings all the time.
Also, you have been directed towards areas where waiting queues are much shorter. You refused to consider the alternative.
Finally, you don't need to do the research yourself. You can pay somebody else to do it for you at their POS lab. Or you can buy already-researched blueprints relatively cheap from contracts or the sell order forum.

Yes, it's not a problem. Even with your implied sarcasm.
You get to pick between fast and expensive or slow and cheap.
EVERYBODY gets the same priorities and usage rules, nobody gets preferential treatment, first come, first serve.
There is absolutely nothing wrong, except your attitude.

This!

Changing the game mechanics so that the only option is fast and expensive won't improve anything, and neither would altering game mechanics to make fast and cheap the only option. Current mechanics provide an excellent range of choices.

Posting in a topic I know nothing about but...
Shouldn't the research slots be like the corp offices? More corps in that station => price++?

Except that you can in theory continue to stuff infinite numbers of corp offices into stations at the exponentially higher rates, but available research slots do not increase to meet demand.

As long as you are a loner player or even part of a tiny <5 person corp you are way better of just acquiring your blue print copies through contracts.

That way somebody else has already bought the bpo, researched it and made copies for you. Saving you a lot of time and expense.

A POS, for a tiny corp or individual, is a waste of time, isk and effort if all you are going to do is research bpos.

Maximize your manufacturing and invention skills a let others sell you BPCs for below cost.

No! The number of corp offices is limited to a fixed number. If all of the offices in a station are rented, the cost to rent will increase until someone closes their office. If there is only one vacancy, the office prices remain stable. If there is more than one vacancy, office prices will decline until they reach their minimum of 10k ISK/month.

As for research slots: no, they should not work like corp offices. If they worked like corp offices, the cost for NPC research slots would increase drastically as cost, rather than time, would become the limiting factor in managing slot usage. With current mechanics, NPC research slots are a low-cost slow-speed option. POS's provide a high-cost high-speed option. The choice between the two is an appropriate compromise: you can choose your priority of speed or cost. Providing low-cost high-speed lab resources is inappropriate as it would universally devalue lab resources.

want to feel important....2 ways

Run fw, get your standing to put up pos fast (can be just 2 months...don't even have to pvp much, grind the missions, fight off or avoid enemy/pirates that may stop by), profit. Even get a special title, brigadier general, before you leave it. This wrecks enemy faction standing...would not recommend the char that does this to be your hauler/trader. Or any char that needs to hit enemy space. even out of fw the gate guns will jsut love your standing with them.

Pay some guy 300 mil, get standings, put your pos in a week before standings change.

Public has worked well enough for me for over a year now, not you scene cough up 300 mil in addition to the pos you want to setup. Can be up tomorrow if they have a premade ready...or have to wait a week for one to go the standings. go for the named ones with a long history. If someone new and untested, hit up chribba or other 3rd parties if paranoid about scams.

edit: 3rd option I forgot. Train interceptor. If a rig says agility, fit it. If a mod says agility fit it. Short of an instalock gate camp, should clear gates trouble free. Hit up low sec, much better qeues out there. If paranoid about station camps or see one on way in...undock later after research in. Few hours, next day....whatever works for you. Pirates find better targets in time. Another mans gank is your chance at a break out. Cold...but it works lol.
