Has anyone had PI hotspot go from red to green while doing the 1st extraction ? No, i didn't change the slider. If so any ideas on how to avoid it ?

Ok this sounds like a legitimate question.

So I will bite.

Hotspots have only so many resources in them, while you have your extractors on them, you might not be the only one. Example if your planet has 3 other people on it, besides you and they all move their extractors to the hot spot, it will deplete 4 times as fast as everyone will be going for the node.

This was one of the drawbacks CCP said was coming to pi that resources would deplete if too many people got onto them. You will just have to be quick about switching nodes very fast to keep ahead of the competition.

EDIT: you cant avoid rapid depletion of resources caused by other players. If you see a ton of other networks on the planet you might have to just change planets and find a less populated one.

When CCP overhauled the click fest that was PI they installed a depletion layer to planets. Now if you extract a butt load of PI material in a short amount of time. the hot spots will go away.

Or in a few years you can hire people in dust to push every one else off the planet.

^^this.
If the resources wouldn't become limited, there would be no need to fight over them, as they have no real value besides the time you put into harvesting them (negligible).

my planets are running dry they need more reources, I suppose I could goto 0.0 or low sec but that seems to hard.

Well the more important question is: do the resources respawn (i suppose yes ?).
And at what rate ?
A planet with a fast respawn rate may be more valuable than one with a high concentration at the time of the scan.

while you have your extractors on them, you might not be the only one.

Why would you "might" not be the only one? You can see other peoples networks if you select the "show other peoples networks" option... or are you saying that doesnt work?

I hate PI. I hate it because even though it's been revamped it's still a PITA. If the resources deplete I'll just leave the extractors where they are and buy the resources I need.

Yes i have noticed this. I do PI from wormhole space and i'm the only one on the planets. The first time i scanned the planet to pick the the best location and just a few hour after, the hot spot moved...

I thought maybe i made a mistake during the initial scan so i took more care when setting up my second planet but the same thing happed again. So i find myself having to more extractors once a week.

CCP although they may be a finite resource, metals do not move around withing the planets surface.

I think its more likley that there is a 'scanning accuracy' statistic, meaning that when you do a scan for the first time i remembers that scan for a while, then later when you exit planet mode and go back in things might shift because you are more or less accurate.

Besides, now with the more in depth information I find that if I stick 7 mines down in a hexagon pattern to perfectly cover a hot spot it doesnt always mean your getting the most. If you move the mines around you can see that some times moving it outside the hot spot actual generates more material!

So I just think that scanning is a very inprecise tool. But the hot spot completly disapearing? hmm, not had that.

unless as you say, there are lots of other people mining there and for some reason you cant see their network.

While I like the new PI interface/graphics setup, I have shut down all my PI production. Can't be arsed chasing ambulatory resources, even with extractors set out in circular patterns to "catch" at least a portion of a hotspot as it goes whipping by....

Show other peoples network seems exceedingly buggy atm, have 3 alts on 1 planet, 2 of them cant see any of the others while 1 can see 1 of the others ..., also plenty of other comments saying the same, but havent seen a single reply from ccp regarding this iissue yet.

I have the same. As a newbie my question is - do I have to destroy everything on the planet apart from the CC and rebuild them next to the hotspots or do I use reallllly long links from the extractor head to my central point??
