If you meant "using hull repairers", the answer is definitely no. |

You need to get your Elite hull tanking Certificate first, but yes, real PVPers hull tank. Quote: This certificate represents an elite level of competence in the infamous practice of "hull tanking". It certifies that the holder can fully use all modules relating to hull tanking. The holder is aware that "real men hull tank", and also that hull tanking is really dumb. With this certificate, you've maximised your ability to rely on your structural systems to absorb damage, although hopefully you're smart enough to know what a daft idea that is.

I can imagine a hull buffer tanking bait Orca (damage control + reinforced bulkheads), but that's pretty much all since the performance of the hull repairer is next to nothing. The orca ha a huge amount of structure HP, that's why a buffer tank looks reasonable. But why would anyone use an expensive ship like an Orca for bait? |

Balls.
I recall reading a while back about some people using a freighter in low sec as bait with a good deal of success. Can't see why an Orca wouldn't be just as good, if not better. Stick some gang mods on it. |

Err...I wouldn't so much say "try" as say "end up" in regards to hull tanking. Also remember, some people think fitting a DCII is hull tanking. Originally by: Is it worth trying?
Depends. Follow this simple checklist: Are you- 1. bait 2. Gallente 3. both If you score 1 or higher, hull tankiing is worth it. If you score 3, hull tanking is definately worth it...and you get to have a cookie Seriously, they should change that certificate's name from "hull tanking-elite rank" to "voluntary target goading Masochist-Ballz of steel rank" |

Edited by: Tony SoXai on 18/02/2011 23:28:28 You can hull tank a lot of ships, here's a list of the ones I've used.
Taranis Enyo Catalyst Thorax
Gallente have lots of hull hp generally so that's why they're good at it. Reinforced bulkheads slow you down quite a bit but it's just hilarious hulltanking. |

Hull tank, no, hull buffer, yes. I saw here some funny Dominix bait setups, based on massive hull HPs. |

Edited by: Diomidis on 19/02/2011 01:36:16 The vast majority of frigs used in PVP effectively (buffer) hull tank for nearly 50-70% of their EHP, unless it's a frig that can fit a 400mm RT or MSE.
The most famous example of such a tank is the Taranis, which as mentioned before has more than half its EHP in hull.
Hull buffer tanks that can bait people pretty hard, are the Domi and the Navy Mega.
The Domi can do 100k EHP with bulkwards + a DC II, leaving all the mids for tackle / cap boosters and the highs for neuts etc, while giving pain with drones...not brilliant, but effective setup.
The Mega Navy can break the 200K EHP (about 220K with trimarks) with a full-low slot hull tank, and could be extremely effective, as people are attracted as magnets to keep firing on a faction BS which has reached hull dmg no-matter what! Keep in mind that without good intel, a blob big enough can bring anything down tho...
Also for Capitals, being the orca or anything bigger, leaving a DC out of your fit is the worst thing you can do tank wise, unless we are talking some spec. triage carrier or so.
Unfortunately Hull reppers are painfully slow and ineffective to use during combat, so don't try it. |

Hull buffers I've seen. Although active hull tanking doesn't work. Hull reppers suck, they're basically there to save you repair money. |

Play with a Moros some time. You can get to over 3 million EHP with it just fitting bulkheads and a DC II on it. |

this is the situation: That group of low sec scum has been camping the gate for the last week and all they do is pick easy targets and escape. This makes you mad but because they run when you enter there is nothing you can do. Suddenly one of your friends gets a great idea: Let's buffer tank on of our industrials So after playing in eft you decide this fit should do the trick. [Bustard, hull tank] Damage Control II Reinforced Bulkheads II Reinforced Bulkheads II Reinforced Bulkheads II Reinforced Bulkheads II Faint Warp Disruptor I Large Shield Extender II Photon Scattering Field II [empty high slot] Medium Core Defence Field Extender I Medium Core Defence Field Extender I It got 77k ehp and 50 of that in hull and who is not gonna kill an industrial in hull? So your friend jumps in his bustard like a ******ed noob without scout and fall in the 5 man industrial killing gatecamp. He then proceeds to re approach the gate like every dumb industrial that jumped into a gatecamp. The enemy sees he is buffer tanked on his shields and they start to smile as soon as his shields drop below 10% now you and your friends jump in. They see his armor melt and think: One more shot and he is dead and we are outa here. But then he hits hull and it isn't making any progress at all. Around this time they might realise they are screwed and your tacklers got points on the bad guy's. To bad some of them escaped but the juicy machariel that tried to bump you of the gate died in a horrible ball of fire. mission succesfull |

Kil2 showed bait hull tanked Navy Mega in one of his movies.
Hulltanked Dominix works too.
PS Such ships as Taranis, Thorax, etc are buffer-tanked, not hull tanked. |

So you jump into gatecamps often rocking a machariel but they cant drop 77k EHP quickly? Alright. |
