Hi all, i am wondering if anyone has used a typhoon for belt ratting before?

I am specifically thinking of cruise launchers and 1400 arty. Warping in to each belt @ 50km and pick them off

You could do it, but unless you have good missile gun and drone skills it may not be a good choice. If you do have good skills I would recommend your fit have 5 Cruise Launchers II, 3 1400 II and 5 Sentry drones. You can put on 2-3 BCS and still have a good enough tank for belt rats.

The typhoon is a really great ship, it just takes a ton of SP to fly well.

i can confirm that using a phoon in belts with torps and ogres sucks, chasing down rats with mwd eats your puny cap fast.

typhoon is ok for belt ratsbut as you already know you cant use torps and at that point you better use a maestrom with 8 arty, warp @ 50km kill everything then warp to another belt

With projection 4 Angel rats could actually outrun my torpedoes, despite being 3-4km inside my range. Damned annoying. Definitely use cruise missiles.

Confirming torps don't work.

So you could try cruises and arty (and sentrys) but the dps really isn't great (have a look how much the 1400s add to dps).

I have done it in areas where reds often travel through and set up with a mix PvP/PvE fit which works great, you can fit all sorts of nasty surprises, but the isk earning efficiency is terrible!

Long story short - you can do it but it isn't very efficient.

You will want maelstrom but any battleship can do ratting.
Possibly best would be Sliepnir.

Most important thing about the phoon.
Always. Remember. Drones.

Having that big drone-hold is such a blessing if you know what you do. Heavy drones, or sentry(rather for missions), meds or smalls to take care of the small stuff while you chase the biggies with your afterburner(MWD big nono) and catch them with that weber for your torps and the 800s.
Stay in one damage range. ACs+Torps, 1200s+Cruise.

Dont forget the e-war drones. Play around a bit with them just for funzies.
Maybe 5 heavy TP/web drones will help you more than those 5 meds.

i make 90% of my isk running anomalies in 0.0 with an active armour tanked Typhoon.

I use 5 cruise launchers with 2 BCUs. in the extra highs I have a salvager, tractor beam and core probe launcher.

mids are cap rechargers and a tech II AB.

lows are resits mods, repper and the BCUs.

cap rigs so im 100% cap stable.

drones to taste

I used the the Phoon for various pve setups, lvl4 and ratting in 0.0 and i discovered that its not really any good for pve, well ratting in 0.0, you dont that mucj time to kill the rats, so can fit more gank than tank depending on skills that is, and maybe a tractor beam for loot.

As Magnus Orin points out the phoon works great for him, I got caught ratting in a typhoon and was popped fast by A hac. This said the other thing is that the Phoon is slow as hell.
I would go for a Hurricane instead, its cheaper, its faster and you might be able to get a way faster if reds in your system, it pops the rats as fast as the phoon, you can fit a nano cane and get close with ac's and pop them really fast, or artys if you want longer range.

I ratted in a rupture aswell for fun, and it can kill the bs' but it takes some time. i also tested a Wolf, and it tanks really well, it just takes about 5 mins to kill the bs' but i would be harder to catch unless an inty caught me.
So i would go for a hurricane instead.

If you want alpha damage go for the maelstrom, depending on skills you can fit 8x1400mm II in highs and pop a bs in 2-volleys.

If you got popped, it is not because you were in a Phoon.

And you are seriously calling the Phoon slow? It is hella fast for a BS.

The Phoon is in my opinion, by far the most underrated battleship in the game.

It's only flaw, again in my opinion, is that you need an incredible amount of skill-points to fully utilize its potential.

With cruise missiles, you just align to your safe or POS and nuke from a distance. Any ratting BS would have been popped fast by a HAC if it is caught in a belt ratting.

It is an incredibly versatile ship for both pve and pvp.

Confirming this works just fine for certain kinds of belt rats.

I've found that the phoon does really well versus Blood Raiders and Drones. Armor tanking + pure damage output of cruise missiles makes it well suited in these cases.

It does less well versus Angels and is only so so versus Guristas. I would use a Maelstrom in either of these cases.

Phoon's cheap though. Had a lot of fun using it in belts and sanctums. It's probably not the most efficient way to go but it does work.
