My turn.

Since I am mainly a miner, I started off pvp pretty late in the game. After experimenting a bunch of different methods of pvp, I decided to try an ecm-fitted Blackbird. I made sure I checked that the fits were proper (consulted with expert pvpers in my corp over this) and went out on a roam. After all, I got enough ecm modules to escape should I ever get in a bind, right?

Well, let's not forget that this was the first time handling an ecm-fitted ship in general. After roaming around 0.0 solo, I was getting a little ****ed off that I can't find any neut to pick a fight with. But just when I was about to give up, I run into an T1 frigate piloted by a neut next to the gate. Since here was next to the gate already, I figured it was too late to get him as he might jump through and warp out before I could get him.

But lo and behold, the neut in his T1 frig aggros me. I was like, SWEEEEET!!!! I get to kill something at least. Since he was the only one there in the system, I figured I could screw around with this guy for a bit and unleash all of my ecm mods on him. He couldn't target me for crap after all. But moments later, another neut in a Hurricane pops into the system. Since several of my ecm mods were minmatar, I felt lucky I could mess with this guy too and hopefully survive long enough to help to arrive. But here's the kicker... all of my ecm mods were still active on the T1 frigate (20-sec cycle here).

Before I realized it, my Blackbird was pointed by the Hurricane, I couldn't jump through the gate because of my aggro, all of my ecm mods were not done cycling on the T1 frig, and I only have one T1 missile launcher.

Let's just say that at the very least I managed to escape with my pod intact.

My first PvP action (sort of).

I was ratting in low sec, in a decent t1 fit cruiser (because my skills on that character are not good yet). I'm in an Omen. A Command Ship warps in (Prophecy hull). I should have gotten away. I would have. But I decided to recall my drones before clicking warp.Embarassed

very first loss on this char, and only pod i ever lost that hasnt been from a bubble, low sec, rupture doing lvl 1/2 missions, i turn autopilot on to go home thinking if someone shoots my ship its not too expensive, and my pod has no implants, sure enough, i come back at my high sec destination, in a new clone, message learnt? dont touch the A button

and my first loss while willingly going into pvp, my corp wardecked another, i went out on the first day of war in my shiny rifter looking for targets, quite quickly i found one of the mission runner targets, he was in a raven, 'ahh a raven, BS, he wont hit me if i orbit' he locks me, launches a volley, ahh were did my shields go? few more volleys and drones on me i was dead and warped my pod out embarrassed, checked the lossmail and he was setup with precision missiles, explains the high hits

It was about 1 year ago, is a system to me now far, far away. Think of a young 09 that until that point only mined and did mission's. Flying He's Vengeance Light Assault Ship, He join's up with teh caldari Militia. Ware he join's a fleet FC'd by York Craft, And a prier engagement left my ship damaged at 84% armor, When then in the heat of combat I requested on the comm's to dock with the station and Repair my armor as gallente poor in from the gate..... During one of my first low-sec roams in a rifter, I spooted a maller ratting all by himself(I'm lucky it wasn't a trap). I engage and get under his guns without a problem. I've unloaded about 150 salvos into him and he's almost in structure. I see a box appear in the middle of my screen and in my newbish frenzy I think it's a convo invitation. As soon as I accept I enter warp. WTF? I land near a gate and BLAM! I'm popped. Turns out he had invited me to a fleet. Now I know to read the things I accept, as just about anything will get you killed.

Was a bit over two months in the game, and had been reading about 0.0 and belt ratting and how much you could do , along with faction spawns and stuff, so worked enough ISK from L3 missions to get a second Cyclone, fitted the thing cap stable and flew in Great Wildlands, YEAH!

Okay, 3 stations in region, dock up in the lowest truesec system one, separate Local from stack to be warned of incoming and waited for Local to empty... and waited... and waited... Okay! GO! GO! GO!

I undock and start belt ratting, kill Angel BS and stuff, loot, rince and repeat, I was feeling great, even if I had to do the dock-wait for local to empty-undock repetetively.

All was great and fine under teh sun, I was the 0.0 king and millions were flowing in, to the point that docking up if there was lonly 1-2 peeps in Local became facultative, ohyeah... After all, if they add a positive sec status it meant there weren't pvper, right?

Then I met mister Dramiel. 425mmm and Hammerheads aren't great to deal with a Dram, ohnoes, especially not with most of my n00b skills hovering around L3. Anyway, there's the fail: I didn't realised what happened before a good while, but as that Dramiel was slowly bleeding my shields, my opponent got disconnected and emergency warped off, my n00b self just thought I had scared him off or he had ran out of ammos, and resumed looting (the very same belt' wrecks) - Until he logged back, probably most frenetically Shocked

Ohwell, there goes the ship, then the pod. Lesson lerned :)

So I was a week old in the game and had just started to mine in my itty bitty Bantam in some high sec belt couple jumps out of Todaki where I was born into eve.

My friend was with me in a Moa and he was fighting with the belt rats there since I didn't have the skills to tank and hit with my drone.

We notice this frigate coming towards my can and think well if he flips the can I can stick my tech 1 hobgoblin on him while my friend in a Moa kills him. After all he is in a frigate and we are in two ships we should take him.

The guy in the ship flips our can and I impulsively send my drone after him, as soon as my drone attacks he targets me and I insta pop. My friend steals back the can so he wont get Concorded since we aren't in the same corp and in two volleys he is down.

With our pods safely back in the station we look at our loss screens oh right sure enough he was in a Frigate however it was a tech two version assault ship whose blasters just ripped us apart.

My second most embarrassing PvP happened just a few weeks ago, now I need to preface I am still mostly an industrialist who was trying to break into low sec for some PI for the first time. Now Ive been into low sec a few times with a cloak just to pop my head in never really engaging in PvP. So I take a cheap Badger and fit it with warp core stabilizers thinking if I get jammed I can warp away. As an added precaution I fit ecms to it thinking well if I get warped jammed by strength 3 or more I can use that to break lock and warp away. My last layer of defense was a cloak so that I could cloak while I worked on my PI set up.

I jump into my low sec system planning on picking up my PI materials and see a Drake. I start to align and then BOOOM I'm in a pod.. I forgot to think about lock times I never had a chance to lock up the Drake and use my fancy tricks he alpha-ed me since I had no tank...

I am a carebear mission runner most of the time other wise I am a broke miner. A few months ago I was feeling good flying a Maelstrom with a 120 mill in my pocket doing level fours. I am in a story line mission and I haven't been on in a while so I am getting accustomed to every thing again. The story line mission was a combat mission with lots of battle ships and yes I am in carebear high sec.

So as I clear out the ships that have me aggroed I notice this buzzard coming in to my mission looting my wrecks. I think the little bastard is far enough away one volley will alpha him. That and he isn't moving just sitting there feeding off my loot. I lock him up and as I press F1 he warps away.

Now here is where I made the second epic mistake of this, I ll tell you my first at the end. My dumb ass waits for him to come back in a navy Amarian Battleship. He warp scrambles me and I cant leave so my guns start blazing and I noticed I'm also webbed and cant get away. I'm cussing up a storm at my self and then he gets me into Armor. I am thinking I'm gonna die.

My attacker sends me a convo asking for 1000000 and I think 100k wow that's it to save my life I send it to him. Then he convos me and says 1000000000 and I think 100mil that will clean me out but will be cheaper than my ship so I send it to him. He then proceeds to say I meant 1 billion and blows up my ship... I am thinking what an ass at least you could get the zeros right.

So the first mistake was not insuring my ship.. so the default insurance payment was around 20 million so I had 40 million and no battle ship and a story line mission not even done with it and no way to complete it. I had to have a corp mate help me finish it and I was in my cyclone.

What I learned from this experience is, a stop being a carebear and fight other people, insure your ship, fit an afterburner to get away from being webbed, insure your ship, if your doing a mission and a ******* looks a wreck ignore him, insure your ship, If you are mission running and you fire at the guy looting your wrecks and he warps away don't wait for him in a pve fitted ship wait in a pvp fitted ship, insure your ship, if a ransom is offered make sure they get their zeros right, and finally insure your ship!

I escaped a nullsec station after we had lost it during a war in my prize dramiel and a hold loaded with officer loot. I dodged an entire gang of persuing war tagrgets and jumped 22 jumps through hostile space to finally arrive in the system bordering lowsec. With a swelling sense of pride I warped straight to the gate instead of the 200km bookmark I had to scout with. I warped straight PAST the gate and into the bubble a Scimitar had set up 40km behind it. I was podded instantly, losing my ship and cargo and set back all of 2 jumps to highsec. Lame.. I should have self destructed back in 0.0.Confused

I guess it's true, most accidents happen close to home. Overconfidence ftl. :(

This wasn't something I did.. But it happened because of me in part so I'll share it.

I was out for a stroll in an enyo in lowsec. Suddenly a kestrel lands on me in the belt I was lurking in and locks me. I do a quick 360 scan and see an incursus and a harpy closing fast. A raipid check of the groups age gave me a bit of confidence.

Te kestrel and it's owner's pod pops before his buddies even land on grid. I made short work of the harpy as well, finishing things off with the incursus hull for dessert. As the 2 remaining pods warped off I see this in local:

"dude that was NOT an incursus."

Killing 3 in 1 fight made me feel pretty good. The wounded pilots on the other hand had some choice words for their scout ;) YARRRR!!

Had gone on a long roam with my alliance where I had flown T1 tackle (executioner). Now my T1 executioner fit is designed to point and fly fast only, the guns I use (T1 beams with T1 radio) are really for killmail w***ing. Tackle is supposed to die so why fly expensive - right?

After the roam was over, a few guys were repping a pos that had been unsuccessfully attacked. They were asking for help as the original attackers were still around (or what was left of them) and picking at the repping fleet. I was still up for some pew, so I said WTF I will go help.

So I go to assist and we are getting hit by a Drake, a tempest and a SB that keeps popping out and then cloaking. so I am running after these bigger guys trying to get a point. I ended up MWDing toward the Tempest (a long way away) and out pops the SB. Shut off the MDW as it was luckily at the near end of a cycle and I am 15 km from the SB. I successfully point the SB. I call point and ask for help. The guy FCing (sort of) says you can take him. Fine I think, I should be able to do it, but these guns suck. So I start working on him. He is going down, but slooooowly. I can see the tempest is moving in on us. So I start calling for help again. Just as I start calling, this other guy in the fleet starts screaming about how he just got his first solo killmail – totally drowning out my calls for help. Before he shuts up – POP. I am flying to the sun in my pod.

OK – no big deal, it is just a T1 frig and I remember my first killmail. Then I am flying back home to reship, and over the TeamSpeak I hear the killmail guy say, “oh that’s not a killmail…"Exclamation

Let's see... the first time I decided to try PvP, I was a few days old and was entirely sure that PvP was what I wanted to do. So, I loaded up a shiny new Griffin, fitting it with whatever weapons I could afford at the time, and warped to the nearest asteroid belt, and there! A mining bantam was awaiting my vengeance, and I proceeded to lock and open fire as quickly as I could! My weapons shimmered as they streaked toward the unsuspecting miner, my unfounded fury quickly finding its target. Adrenaline rushed through me as the thrill of my first kill was close at hand! Seconds passed, I had brought his shields halfway down, and then I learned a very important lesson.

Concord does not tolerate pirates. And so I flew back to station in my pod, learning that high security systems are not the best place to fire on random individuals.

I was flying around lowsec, looking for something to kill in my rifter. It was slow going because I was still figuring out the best ways to use dscan. Finally, I found a hulk sitting on a belt! I warped to it at 0, ready to target and scram the hulk. I landed, targeted and pointed it, then I was suddenly destroyed by CONCORD.

At some point I had wandered back into high sec.Cool

My first three PVP losses as I recall:

1. Salvage thrasher. Newbie thought leading to destruction: "I'll be rich if I go salvage people's wrecks in lowsec asteroid belts!"
2. Rupture. Newbie thought leading to destruction: "Amamake? Never heard of it. Should be safe to jump in with the new cruiser I just saved up and bought with all my ISK"
3. Rifter. Newbie thought leading to destruction: "What the heck is "aggression" and why can't I jump? *gets slowly killed by sniper cerb while not being pointed*"

Lol. This is not what you should have learned.

1) Dont shoot at ninjas
2) Really, dont shoot at them.
3) An afterburner wont help you get away when webbed, unless your attacker is a failure
4) Right, if you do shoot, dont wait around in your PvE ship. Go dock up
5) Yes, insure your ship
6) You really think he made a "mistake" with the ransom? He was going to kill you no matter how much you paid.

When I first started playing I thought it would be fun (and maybe profitable) to run courier contracts for people, since I had a trusty hoarder and a couple million isk (for collateral) I got to work. After a few highsec runs which earned me very little (which at the time was lots!), I felt ballsy and started doing runs to and from lowsec. This went well, despite a couple close calls, and I pretty soon I found a contract out to a fairly nearby nullsec. 5 Million isk reward, hardly any collateral - holy ****, I was going to be rich!

So I insured my ship, fit medium shield boosters and a warp stab, grabbed the undoubtedly expensive cargo, steeled my nerves and boldly headed into nullsec. One system, two systems, three (or so) and I finally reached my destination - I was going to make it! Heart racing I warp to the station and hit dock... "permission denied". Crap.

So I warp to some random place and convo the station owners and ask them for docking rights (since you know, it made sense at the time). I get a "Oh sorry about that, should be all clear now" and proceed to warp happily to the station. There's a dessy waiting for me, and I still can't dock (of course). So I start aligning my slow ass Hoarder for some random moon and get ready to warp. He locks then disrupts me and starts shooting, more of his gang show up on the overview, but my stabilizer saves me and I warp - landing 100km or so out from a massive fleet of neuts. Somehow I manage to align to gate and get into warp, as the original gang now lands in the middle of this (I think hostile to them) gang. Much chaos ensues and I head back to the nearest highsec, somehow making it there alive. I never did deliver that shuttle.ugh

So here I was, sitting at a lowsec gate watching various macro-haulers wander through and deciding if I was going to blow some up or not. I had been wandering lowsec before, but only with small gangs of 3-4 ships.

I just make my decision to hit this cruiser when 2 Onyx jump me, scrammed and multiple webbed. I start lumbering towards the gate, pulses on the Harbi chewing through shields. Tank was holding ok though I was going through Cap 800s at an alarming rate; I would have no trouble getting there though.

5K from teh gate a Sleipnir drops in on me at point-blank. I'm going to die. SHift targets (the two Onyx were outside effective gun range) and engage. Ooooph! Pop! Not a chance. Got my egg away and admitted I was a doof for getting into that situation Laughing

Funny thing is I found out a few weeks later I wound up on the killmail of that Sleipnir. Turned out he wasn't with the two Onyx, just decided to pick on me first :P

Fair enough about not shooting ninjas, tho it was my understanding ninjas just came in for the salvage and this guy was specifically baiting me so I should have known better. Good to know about the afterburner, not really all that experienced at pvp obviously! The mistake with the ransom was paying anything at all. He was just jerking me around as to how much he wanted. So I should have just given him the finger and I would have been able to replace the ship right away. I suppose one more lesson would be not to fly any thing I cant afford to replace.

Bolded the most important part. That, my friend, is the number one rule of eve. Also, you both are 100% wrong about insuring mission ships. You should NEVER lose a mission ship, ever. Insuring them is a waste of money. If you are losing mission ships regularly you are really doing something wrong.

Back with my first piraty character, I was working on Rupture fits based on the experiences I had in fights with them. Drones were a big problem, it seemed like, so I decided to fit some smartbombs to my ruppie as a countermeasure. Anyways, I jumped into Passari, i think it was, and jumped from planet to planet looking for a fight. Lo and behold, there's a rifter. Oh look, he wants to fight me! \o/ My guns can't track him well, but my drones are doing a good job of chewing him up. Sweet, he's almost dead! I'm going to ramp up the damage...smartbombs on! Of course, I forgot that smartbombs are about as dumb as rocks, kinda like me in that moment. I wasted all my drones, the rifter recovered and proceeded to send my ruppie to the scrap heap. I bailed out of the system with my tail between my legs and local exploding with lulz. Hard lesson to learn, and I don't really use smartbombs aymore either, heh.

was roaming in a crow. Jumped into a system and uncloaked right next to a rifter. Who promptly locked and dual webbed me. I wasn't really paying attention and didn't even try to warp off. rifter had a plate so my puney missile damage was not enough to take him down before he popped me. i failed hard lol
