Based on my study of the Gregorian Calendar.
I am convinced that the world will end on December 31, 9999.

On that day the Millennium Count will reach it's end.
The Gregorian Calendar will be over.
Signaling the end of the Common Era.

So no need to worry about 2012, the world is ending in 9999.

Haha, please see me doing that for you! Yes, 2012 is ridiculous, I can not believe people can think that it is done in the first place.

There is actually no such limit to the Gregorian Calendar. It'll just be year 10000.

You're right about us not having to worry about 2012 though, because we'll all be dead by then.

Overview of all Doomsdays

Edit : If the world actually ends by 2012, I'll just start a new calendar based on imaginary numbers.

No it's not. The rationale behind that one is that 2012 is the end of the last time period that they have named. (Unless my memory is wrong. Which it may be.)

So as long as we can pick a name for the time period after 2012 we'll survive Very Happy

I vote we use a loop hole and use Roman Numerals for the last two digits. ;) I feel like 20XIII will be a great year.

My Cheryl Cole calendar runs out on the 31st December 2011, and as she is a well respected public figure she must be on to something, right?

yeah, universe is here for billions of years and we managed to create lot's of bull**** that the world will end in thousands of years. i want to punch all those people who believe that 2012 dec 21st will be the end of the world. we live here in the brink of a second if universe was one day old, if we destroy earth, nothing will happen to the universe, just one little bugger erased. the is no god, there is only chaos, and with that chaos comes harmony. end of the world is bull****, end of your world is death and it comes to us all

and it will happen again yadda yadda yadda...

Anyhow here's some interesting read about several predicted, an of course failed, doomsday scenarios as well as future events. As a nice little bonus at the end there is the actual date of the REAL end of the world.

Almost forgot the link

Based on my own, incredibly scientific, accurate experiments and predictions the world will end August 14th 2027 at around 9:31am CET. It will start in the small village of Colaigne in southern France and the ripple effects through the space-time continuum will cause the rest of the world to follow. The last city to fall is Adelaide in Australia.

I faxed these predictions to the Future Predictions Institute in Switzerland, Japan and Ukraine. all of them more or less confirmed what I had found was right and true. What they then concluded was that mankind has to evacuate the planet the latest tomorrow morning (holy ****!) to have a chance avoiding this impending catastrophe.

However, we all know this isn't actually possible; I have a doctor's appointment tomorrow and there's an important football game tonight (Fulham-Liverpool) I can't miss.

Actually wikipedia says you are wrong,
"December 2012 marks the conclusion of a b'ak'tun; a great cycle of years in the Mesoamerican Long Count calendar"
With no reference to naming of years.
a b'ak'tun is a nice round number of years, if you are using a base 20 counting system.
It's really not worth the effort digging deeper into the BS.

But you do bring up a good point.
You have lead me to research into UN named cycles.

According to the UN, we are living in the "Water for Life Decade".
This is the last decade named on their calendar.
Leading me to believe the world will end on December 31, 2015!
So we got 4 more years, instead of 1!

The world as we know it will end 4 to 5 billion years from now. You have been warned.

Tick tock.
