Okay, never thought that CCP would do this but apparently I have now lost portraits of
all 5 of my characters.

You have to be kidding me!

Why can't we just keep our old ones until WE decide to update them?

Is there any way to at least see them to try to duplicate them with the new software?

I have an old version of EVE on my laptop but it won't even allow me to log in with it.

View your new image in EvEgate or something. Rightclick show Image...

You should get something like
http://image.eveonline.com/Character/112233445_256.jpg

change to
http://oldportraits.eveonline.com/Character/112233445_256.jpg

Profit!

Okay thanks guys, glad to know we can still access them.

Now how do we determine what our character id is for the URL?

Same problem here. Lost my portrait as well and there's no link anymore to "Capture Portrait".

Also unable to determine what my "Character ID" is.

tl;dr: So http://image.eveonline.com/Character/{char_id}_256.jpg, however you need to have created a new pic to use it.

Same problem here, I lost my portrait. I am new and just made it 6 days ago.

I am an artist and need access to my old portrait to create a new one by visually
looking at it.

I tried the EVE gate thing and it is not working;

http://oldportraits.eveonline.com/Character/1_256.jpg

Any help appreciated. I am shocked that EVE deleted all of our images.

Ok back to the roots guys.

Open your file explorer.
Go to C:\users\NAME\appdata\local\CCP\EVE\
[yor eve path]\cache\Pictures\portraits (Win vista/7; you have to search %appdata% for ccp on XP I think)

Amongst many pictures, there will be your old one. The part in front of _512.jpg is your character ID

you can find your ID by clicking your portrait (on the forum) then look at the url of that page, the number in the url is your character ID

I'm obviously missing something fairly basic here, I can access my old portrait easily enough but can't see how to use it to bring it back into the game - do I need to go through the whole character creation process and then substitute the original protrait somehow for the new mug-shot?

You don't. You'll have to make a new one.

Lol, well that's arse. Have had the same face for 7 years, would've been nice to be given the option to keep the same toon after all this time Confused

Your toon Character is the same. It's just getting a modern facelift.

The easiest way to do it is just to right click on your new portrait here on the forum, select "Copy image location" (or equivalent), copy paste the image location into a new browser window and change the URL to oldportraits.eveonline.com and change the resolution on the end of the url from 64 to 256.

Here is your old portrait btw:
