Edited by: Andre Vauban on 04/01/2011 17:02:32 I'm trying to understand the spectrum of corp capabilities and classify them. The reason for this is to give the smaller folks an idea on how they compare to the big boys. This will enable us smaller entities to understand what we need to achieve to become "better".
For example, here are some standard capabilities. Using these questions, what answer would you give to determine how a corp fits into various buckets. If we use 4 buckets, low would be represent the low end corps, medium would represent presumably most Alliance corps, high would represent the top end alliance corps, and ultra-high would represent corps that had capabilities greater than a large number of alliances.
-------------------------
-Corporation member count.
Low <20, medium <100, large <1000, ultra-high >1000?
-Max possible fleet size during "prime-time".
Low <5, medium <20, large <75, ultra-high >75?
-Average pilots logged in during "prime-time"
Low <5, medium <20, large <100, ultra-high >100?
-Corp wallet size.
Low <100M, medium <1B, large <1000B, ultra-high >1000B?
-Number of capital pilots.
Low 0, medium <5, large <50, ultra-high >50?
-Number of super capital pilots.
Low 0, medium <5, large <20, ultra-high >20?
-Time zone coverage.
Low 4 hours/day coverage, medium 8 hours/day coverage, large 16 hours/day coverage, ultra-high 23x7 coverage

Correct, I have never been in a major alliance and don't know the answers. I just took wild guesses. I posted this question because I have no clue and was looking for input. Since you are in one of the largest alliances numbers-wise, how would you answer? |

It's very hard to quantify an alliance's strength like this. One alliance may have 3 FCs who run a dozen ops/week while another may have 20 FCs who run one op/week. Fleet size isn't a good indicator either, because that can vary wildly depending on the time, date, and what kind of op it is. As for average members online and timezone coverage, those two should be merged into a line graph of time vs. average members online at that time. Even wallet size is a bad indicator. TEST has an extremely tight wallet right now and recently had a large donation drive because the budget was lagging so badly, meanwhile IT likely has a budget 20x (conservative) the size of TEST's, and is probably even bigger than the cumulative budget of the entire deklein coalition, but who is winning that war? It's deklein coalition. Just pointing out that quantifying things like this would require a lot more than these simple statistics to predict alliance strength. I would go more into detail but I dun wanna spend an hour typing on how to do fancy calculus and statistical analysis. |

I have developed a new and complex system for calibrating the capabilities and potential offered by an alliances external communication stategic vision. Broadly speaking individuals can be categorised into:
1. Stop posting (you are Flinx Evenstar or Metal Dude). 2. Terribad posting (you are in test) 3. No-one cares (you live in the dronelands) 4. Hey, nice post (you are SnotShot) 5. Firkin legend (in which case you are me).
