So I've finally reached the point where I want to try inventing T2 Heavy Missiles, specifically Scourge Fury ones as a starting point.

I have BPCs I created with max runs, simply because copying is easy.
I know I need Rocket Science Datacores and Electronic Engineering ones.
I have the necessary Data Interface (Esoteric Data Interface)
I have the required skills and open invention slots.

There are no named T1 versions as this is ammo, so that is unnecessary.
I have spare User Manuals as Decryptors.

Should I use the Decryptors? Is there anything I'm missing? I'm not really looking to turn a profit at this point. I am simply trying this to say I successfully invented a T2 BPC. Is there anything else I need to know or worry about? Thanks all.

It looks like you have everything you need. I wouldn't use a decryptor on ammo though, not enough return for the cost of the decryptor...unless you just want to do it to say you've done it.

Pretty much the rest is just left to chance (modified by your skills of course), throw it all in and hope for the best.

I agree with not using the Decryptor. It's not worth it.

I would recommend buying faction missiles to throw in there. You only need 1 for each invention attempt. It's a low cost investment for an improved chance of success.

So faction missiles count as Meta material? Thanks! That's very good to know!

Yes, faction missiles are Meta 2.

Correction, some faction missiles are meta 2.
* Guristas: meta 1
* Caldari Navy: meta 2
* Dread Guristas: meta 3

There was a similar discussion about using faction missiles for invention on the german eve forums just recently.

Somebody cited a CCP guy, that the meta level of faction missiles is a bug in the database.
Ammunition invention will ignore meta items.

So any faction ammo is ignored regarding the invention chance.
Missiles are unique in this aspect. Turret based faction ammunition does not have a meta classification, which supports the statement that the meta classification of faction missiles is a database error.

Do you have a linky to where the CCP rep officially states this?

Otherwise this could be taken as a manipulation attempt to make sure others do not get the benefit. :D

It was an answer from a petition. As the EULA prohibits posting GM reponses on forums you can only ask yourself, if you want an official statement.

The increase in invention chance using faction missiles as a base is only a few percentage points. Low enough that it would be impossible to tell if they're making a difference or if you're just having good luck. So whether this "alleged" german forum discussion is accurate or not is really a moot point.

Considering how low the cost of a single faction missile is compared to the profit of a successful invention run... I'll spend the isk every time. Wink

With max skills and no base item you have a 50.4% invention chance on ammo, with a meta 3 item you have a 63% chance of success, that's a pretty significant gain.

LaughingLaughingI have better things to train so I don't have all the skills to level 5. Wink

If someone with max skills wants to run a few thousand batches without a base item, then a few thousand with... maybe we'll know for sure.

Besides, considering the price you might want to reconsider looking at the Dread Gurista's for the Meta 3.

Just a few point:

* all skills at L4 vs L5 is only a 2% difference in base chance. Not worth 60+ days of training time in my book.

* The decision on decryptor and meta item use is mostly decided by total cost per piece. For the dread gurista example, does the 13% boost to invention success offset the cost of the meta item consumed?

Just wanted to say thanks to all for the tips and info. I tried 6 BPCs, and was successful with half. I now have those 3 T2 BPCs in production. It's not a huge profit as I had to buy most of the supplies, but it is a profit. Plus, I can now invent and make T2 Scourge Furies, which should help corpmates out.

Again, thanks all!

you should always calculate the profit using market prices, regardless where you got your materials from. They always have an ISK value.

My general strategy is to calculate the cost based on what it would take to buy the minerals, and subtract that from what it would take to buy the end product. If there is a good profit, I'll make that item. If not, I'll skip it.

However, since this was my first attempt at invention, and making T2 items from the BPCs I invented, it was more an exercise in creativity and what I can accomplish instead of trying to make the best profit possible.

I've never focused on producing any one thing. I like to play around and do different stuff. Some is extremely profitable, others barely break even. I've done a handful of T2 Heavy Missiles and average around 250% profit. Wink

Aaargh, confusion!

I'm new to manufacturing, have been happily making T1 missiles for about a month, and just got the skills to invent T2 missiles.

Can anyone verify whether or not having faction missiles in with the invention process will actually help?

1) record every invention job you do on google docs id no where else - just so you know how many are good | bad ... etc.

A high metalevel will help you to raise your invention probability.
IIRC Guristas missiles have 1, Caldary Navy 2 and Dread Guristas have a metalevel of 3.

You can calculate your probability here.

If the usage of using faction missiles will benefit you is another question, which you will have to answer yourself: skill level, invention batch size, additional costs for the missiles, ... are all factors to consider
