I was under the assumption that the way in which we pilot and view all ships within the world of EVE is through a camera which in some respects acts like an orbiting drone or satalite. The reason we dont have a cockpit view is due to this camera and thus the view we do get has a higher advantage. But what i'm curious about is (this isn't me saying 'i want this in-game') why can't we see the camera satilite orbiting the ships when we go close enough to them. I imagine when the option for 'look at' means that we passively hijack the other ships (or objects) camera for the same purpose as our own, so this part is over thrown.

This leads on to a little idea i had, which has many flaws i know...but if someone else manages to think about it a bit more clearly and suggests the idea on the appropriate forum subfolder then please do so. The idea is some type of non fatal weapon which incapacitates the viewing of this camera. Much like an electronic jamming system which creates a great amount of noise both visually and aurally. This jamming could be like a 'flash bang' or 'stun grenade'. Anyway, i wouldn't mind some commenting - both good and bad points so that if someone did want to progress the idea they would know peoples opinions.

The orbiting satellite dealio is just a hacked RP explanation for external view.

It's never going to become part of the game, afaik.

...would sure like some options to control the movement of the camera. E.g. a "chase" mode, where the camera just follows the tail of the ship (= how any given car racing game use to handle a 3d person view), might just give a feeling of actually flying a ship.

we DONT need 207952398567349805 new stuff to this game, DROP IT already, your feeding the Dev's idea's upon idea's, If you ask me they should STOP all the idea's they have about T2 ships etc and fix the damn bugs that exist in the game right now, geez, enough already

Well, if you read about camera drones, you'll find that they are very cheap and every ship carries an abundance of them. So disabling a single drone wouldn't affect a captain's visual in any way.

Perhaps one could jam all camera drones in an area...but that would probably mean 'blindness' for yourself as well.

Frankly, I don't think it would be much fun. And everyone uses the scanner for targetting anyway...

i agree with you - and no i hadn't read the whole topic on the camera drones...just a snippet a long time ago, thats why i wasn't sure on its truth. But in saying people use the targeting system is of course true, but you forget that if your screen goes 'white' then you can't see it properly, thus giving some advantage to the person firing the 'flash bang' weapon...

...i know there are more cons than pros with it, hence my hesitation in going to far into its mechanics. Ah well, no harm in a suggestion - even if it is a bit, well...rubbishWink

not only that, and these guys pointing to articles and crap but querstion.

Why do I care what the heck I am looking at if I can target and lock and do just about anything from the scanner anyway? I mean would you really disable that too?

not fully developed idea and not worth it to fully develop anyway

O not many people use look at options to control there ship and targets anyway, I myself am 100% dependent on the overview/scanner the "flashbang" (good ol socom eh ;)) weapons wont really affect any player who knows what there doing unless it blanks out the whole screen including the overview.

A chase mode might be put to great use in eve videos tho although isnt that what "look at" option does anyway? follow the enemy?

I hope youve got a flame ******ent suit on.. If not prepare to get burnt Rolling Eyes.

Assuming those yellow squares on ships are windows, it appears that ships are rather large. The windows are only a few pixels big at even the closest approach. Currently we have cameras that can fit inside a shirt button, but im sure they can do better than that in the future. Taking the size of the camera drone as maybe that of a coke can (space for propulsion and transmission equipment) were still only talking fractions of a pixel of on-screen size. Therefore it seems unlikely that anyone could see the camera drones.
