I have two choices, its going be one or the other, although I am thinking of throwing them both out of the window and going for Bhaalgorn for those pvp engagements we have every now and then Twisted Evil

All 3 are similar in terms of tank or dps, the being in falloff all the time with the Mach does concern me, just how much does this affect dps ?

Leading on from the falloff question, Arty or Autos ? both similar dps but better range with the Arty, I quite often have to hit out to 70k + and ab or mwd is often useless due to being scrammed and webbed up the wazoo.

I know very little about guns, have used drone boats or missile spammers up till now, advice would be much appreciated.

Use EFT and open the DPS graph, there you will se how the DPS depends on range.
It can also be a good idea to have a couple of different ammo types with you, to use at different ranges.

It works something like this:

up to optimal rage 100% damage
at optimal + falloff range 50% damage
at optimal + 2x falloff 0% damage

Thanks will play around with that graph see if I can figure out what it does Confused

I had assumed that the Nightmare had more range (Navy multi and beams) opposed to the Machariel (Arty with navy emp), but actually there is not much in it, so I suppose falloff is not such an issue either.

Still cant decide guess its gonna have to be a jump on test and see if I can get a Mach to play with.

Assuming you're not solo then it will depend a lot on the rest of the people you're flying with.

If they need more punch at longer range for the BS then the Nightmare fitted with Tachyons is the way to go, if they're finding that it's the Cruisers that are slowing them down then you'll help most with an A/C Mach.

A/C Mach never really occurred to me due to the short range, and I could be doing it wrong on eft but I don't see much dps difference, would be using the Mach or a Nightmare mainly for escalations so cruisers don't really come into it.

Tbh I would prefer not to use lazors especially with the nuet change coming up soon, I have a feeling cap hungry ships like the nightmare are gonna be a thing of the past in wh space Sad

The NM I've tried running around in groups, the damage is nice, but with the set up i was using it wasn't very cap stable. It's not like a mission where you can pulse your tank and pick of the high DPS targets first all the time. And with the cycling time it can help you out, but seeing as i was the highest DPS dealer. They had a very fond time with me while i was there.

Bhaalgorn is my next ship to try out on it. With the nos you'll be able to carry it should help extend cap time with the new changes.

Don't forget the mach can eat up over 8k rounds per hour. Whereas the NM doesn't eat ammo at all if you just use tech 1. Being in a WH might cause a problem.

I'd go with the NM as it can pack more tank and you have no ammo problems. Also take both pulses and beams so you can refit depending on what the gang consists of.

Nightmare for the simplest reason doesnt need ammo.

machariel with acs will burn 15-20k ammo per day which is pain in the ass to get in WHs even if you build them on a pos. Arty can work though nightmare is better at that range.

also the nightmare has a few utility slots free (RR-Probes-salvagers-tractors) while mach has 1 and 0 PG to use anything usefull if arty fitted. (1400mm)

tachyon nightmare > arty mach
