I have three different planets running PI. Two in one system, one in another. The two in the same system have 22 facilities each. I am very meticulous with my placement and the links between them use between 23 and 25 powergrid each.

However, when I placed my facilities on the third planet, I noticed I could only fit 21 and was not even close to being able to place a 22nd. I went back to check my designs and confirmed I hadn't screwed anything up, and noticed that my links were taking up 45 to 46 powergrid each.

Now, my placement of facilities on the third planet is no less meticulous than on the first, which makes me think that the planet is "larger" and that is what's making the links larger. But just because the planet is larger wouldn't make the distance between facilities larger. It seems the "size" of the facilities scales with the planet, thus making the distance between them larger as well.

Is this working as intended? if so, that adds yet another element to searching for appropriate planets on which to perform planetary interaction- checking the size of the planet.

This is working as intended. It's based on the circumference of the planet iirc.

Click on show info for the planets and look at the radius. The last planet is bigger than the others. This is normal and intended, even though the PINs still appear to take up the same amount of space.

As the previous two posters said, it's based on planet size.

I don't agree it's 'working as intended' though, or rather, disagree with the intention. Just because I put a facility on a large planet doesn't mean I would build it 10x larger. I see it as a lack of forethought in the zooming process. The only affect planet size should have is on the maximum possible distance between pins in a straight line and if resources are equal and proportionally distributed then this would make for a more costly link, as it's actually going further. But placing 2 pins next to each other should cost the same on any size planet. Now I would understand if links on different TYPES of planets cost differing amounts as perhaps they need to be built to withstand different environmental conditions, but this has the feeling of laziness in the interface.

To fix PI all I want is:

1) Planets to scale correctly based on their size.
2) Ability to group extractors and begin cycles with 1 survey.
3) Ability to upgrade command centres in situ.

I know some of these are coming in the PI update, but from the screenshot I've seen, I don't think I like the implimentation route. I could be happily surprised though :)

So is deleting your boot.ini, but hey, we all still give CCP money each month. Laughing
