did you download a key logger or something? ccp have posted time after time how to protect your computer from being hacked, take the right measures and it should be near impossible to get hacked :S

My account was hacked a week ago - I play on a Mac, no viruses or key-loggers on there at all and I've verified this. Don't visit dodgy websites, buy isk or anything like that. Every criteria that CCP state in their guidelines on security I'd say I met. The only thing I can think is that my password was somehow forced - I don't know much about that kind of thing but I have created a new uber-password just in case.

I will say that my hacking occured at 5am GMT last Sunday, and I'd passed numerous emails back and forth with the GM looking into it, and managed to get back into my account about half an hour after I'd realised what had happened (by getting an email from the GM - I was in bed Shocked) So big thanks to them for sorting it out on a Sunday and being so helpful and fast.

Sounds like a PEBKAC error to me. Have you tried turning your computer on and off?

Stop using the same username/pass on random websites that you use for EVE.

you...

got....

4!!!???????

Antivirus programs

on 1!!!!!!????

Computer??????

Mate! If you two got hacked! Real life friends and all!! Then the problem lies with you!

Sorry, but OK. You might get hacked! but if your RL friend too get hacked on the same game, it is because of your own errors somewhere!!! It simply cant be a coincidence!! Most likely because of account sharing/using both your accounts on one computer or something.

And OH: For christ sake!!! Get rid of 3 of your antivirus progams! Virus programs dont work well together! And most likely one of your virus programs might be a hoax too.. I have that feeling...

And if you are a troll. Congrats you succeeded!

You did something wrong. I don't know what, but you did something wrong, told your friend about it, and they did it too.

Or vice versa.

Think carefully - did either use the phrase "Dude this is SO cool..." while nearly wetting yourself in excitement recently? If so, that was probably the activity that led to this unfortunate turn of events.

Some helpful hints (mostly for any new people reading this).

1. Don't use your email address account name as your username.
2. Make up a new password and use that. Write it down if you have to - it's safer to have it lying on your desk at home than it is to use the same password all over the intertubes.
3. For the love of all that's (un)holy, don't freaking use password as your password.
4. Change it occasionally.
5. No, Ub3r1337 is not a secure password.
6. Neither is your birthday, the day you got married, or your mother's name.
7. DO NOT USE YOUR EVE USERNAME AND PASSWORD ON ANY OTHER WEBSITES - this includes Battleclinic, or any other "trusted" Eve site.

AdamiaMaxima you will need to file a petition to have any hacking cases reviewed. One the GMs are aware of it they will help you recover your account.

No, no, no! My extensive experience in working with users tells me that this is a ID-10-T issue.

question to CCP:

If a hacker uses a program that guesses password, do you have a feature in game the locks the account out for a certain time and notifies the owner after a certain number of failed attempts? If not, then why NOT?

best line of defense, don't use account names same as your game names and emails.

My best guess? Open wireless connection...you 4 (wtf is wrong here) AV programs will do nothing for the guy in the car keylogging everything over your wireless network.

…also, anti-virus programs tend to look for viruses, not malware/spyware.

It is because nothing is perfect. What one anti-virus misses, another may get.

I've got the standard Windwos security stuff and 1 anti-virus, 1 malware scanner, 1 spyware scanner, 1 trojan scanner, 1 process scanner. I still do not feel safe. Where's that damn tinfoil!!! Do you see anything imbedded in my teeth?

Well, there's a news for you: having more than 1 (ONE!!) antivirus system is a bad thing, ok?

Cheers.

Gnome dosen't look as good as KDE I have to admit, but sure is a lot more stable. I love KDE and plasma, but it tends to be just a bit to unstable for daily usage
