I've found what is either a nice, legitimate time-saving trick or some sort of exploit/bug. So I'm really not sure if it should go under "tactics" or "issues" but I'm going to stick it here.

Lets say you have a ship which is very slow to enter warp, such as an Orca. Ships can't enter warp until they reach top speed, and your Orca is bulky and accelerates slowly. Tell it where to warp to, then once it's said "warping" feather an afterburner/MWD. By feather, I mean activate then immediately deactivate so it won't start a second cycle.

With the afterburner/MWD running, your ship accelerates more quickly than it otherwise would, but also has a higher max speed, say 260m/s instead of 100m/s. It will therefore accelerate up to and beyond its base velocity of 100m/s. The instant the single cycle finishes, the max speed drops back to 100m/s - which is below the speed it's currently doing - causing the ship to hop straight into warp. This saves time (ok, not much time, but that's not the point) when compared with allowing the ship to accelerate to max velocity unaided.

Hey, I know something even better! Combine the MWD with a cloaking device so you can't be targetted while you ship aligns. Laughing

Ok, back to serious mode. You just found part 1 of one of the oldest standard tricks in the book. Part 2 is using a cloaking device, as mentioned above.

Yeah, right. Next time you come telling me that if you use... dunno... a static web on a freighter it instawarps? Rolling Eyes

This is not exploit. Same as webbing the freighters or 'turbo-shuttle' in the form of T1 frig with paperweight on F1.

The latter could be argued as being an exploit, since it's using an "outside feature to automatize gameplay" :P

But yeah, nothing new. Most battleship fleets require MWD fitted for exactly this reason.

Edit: AB also isn't as valid as MWD since the higher the skill the longer it takes for the AB to complete the cycle and thus to warp. MWD is a guaranteed 10 seconds warp.

my f1 key got stuck, and by the time i managed to get it unstuck, i found myself at my autopilot destination. *cough*

haven't actually done that myself.

I have a similar problem, i keep accidently dropping a stack of coins on my F1 button everytime i go afk while on a long autopilot journey.

this has been around long before Orcas were in game. You can also have a corpmate (or friend if youre in 0.0) hit them with a web after they initiate warp. Works on freighters too. Back in the day (before jump freighters) that was the only way to make freighter runs deep into 0.0 halfway tolerable.

You shouldn't put "jump" in the title of your threads, might freak someone out.
