Are there any statistics available on which ship is the most popular at the moment? Combat-wise, in the past we had the Vagabond and the Raven Navy Issue that were the 'must have' ships, but what is the current favourite? There seems to be a big variation between regions, but I get the impression that the Drake is possibly the most popular overall, with the Vargur experiencing a recent surge in popularity among higher skilled pilots... ?

I think probably the Burst is the most popular ship, you see a lot of them roaming 0.0 space.

A good source to see what is being flown the most is the Quarterly Economic Newsletter. You can read the second quarter, 2010, report here/

Useful information,, thanks... but I doubt very much that the Primae is really the most popular ship in EVE at the moment! Hulk and Drake I can understand.

What is the measurement CCP use for this statistic? There could be many different ways of calculating the "most flown ship" - is it the total number of ships in existance, the number that are 'active' at a fixed point in time (ie: an audit of the game at a fixed point re: which ship is each character actually sitting in), or does it consider the number of hours each ship is flown? The latter would be the most meaningful, I think.

I have a hangar full of different ships including some that I seldom fly (yes, including the Primae) but I reckon that I spend the biggest proportion of my time in a Marauder.

So is it safe to assume you're clever enough to use your intel on their homogeneous fleet makeup to your advantage?

No, probably not.

This made me laugh:

Rank / Alliance / Kills
1 / Morsus Mihi / 11114
2 / RAZOR Alliance / 7522
3 / R.A.G.E / 6558
4 / -Mostly Harmless- / 6385
5 / Majesta Empire / 5982

The top five alliances with the most kill are all NC (so is the entire top 10 with the exception of #6). Maybe this is why people ***** about them so much. lulz

Not sure, but how do their losses compare with those numbers. The reason I mention that is if their losses are also high then it is most likely due to sheer number of players in said alliances.

I suspect that they count the number of assembled ships check whether it has ever left the hangar during a set period of time. If it has left the hangar during that time then it counts as active (even if it has only been flow out and then immediately redocked, hence the high primae count).
I don't think it is the total number of ships as I doubt only 16,607 people got the primae. The novelty of the ship has worn off so the next QEN will unlikely even have the primae in the top 10.

Be interesting to see other stats, like total man-hours flown for each ship type over a typical 23 hour period.

Having a ship or flying it once doesn't mean its popular. We actually need yearly/monthly flight hours.
But I bet the Drake will be on #1 in that case.

What do the numbers mean anyway? If there's 16,607 Primae .. does that mean that there's only 16,607 active accounts that used it at least once, even for only 1 minute? Or .. ? "Most flown ships at the end of Q2, 2010", it's not really specific so it doesn't say that much either. Is that the number ships that are flown at least once in june 2010?

This is getting off topic. But I'll just add that MM and company aren't strictly PVP alliances. They hold space, and yes, they carebear it up. So what? They're playing many aspects of the game, as it was intended. And they do it extremely well. No matter what their haters say. I'm sure there are other alliances, PVP-oriented, that have higher kill-to-loss ratios. But their emphasis is on just that, PVP. But what MM and friends succeed, in my opinion, is in the overall success of their goals, which isn't just restricted to PVP. And despite what their enemies have to say, the empire they've built proves it day after day. So the fact that they can hold their own in PVP, not necessarily being the best at it, and successfully hold down their space, and carebear it up, and do a ****load of other things, and be pretty decent at it all is what makes them a successful empire.

The same applies to IT. I don't like them. But I respect their zeal and persistence. They get the job done. Not just PVP. But the BIG picture. Very few alliances accomplish this. And in my opinion it's what eventually kills the better of the PVP-only or strict-PVP-oriented alliances.

By the way. This applies to real life as well. When you graduate from college, grades alone isn't what saves you. I've seen many friends graduate with exceptional grades (3.8+), only to lose jobs to other graduates with much lesser GPAs that have internship experience, community service time, society involvement, extensive networks (socially and professionally), etc. Their success is measured as a whole. Not just one area.

The mechanic of killmails means tha if 1 player from 1 alliance is ganged with a large number of people from other alliances his alliance will still get a decent ammount of killmails, even if it was the DPS of the others that made those kills possible.

While alliances that fight on their own, will have a lot less "kills"

Would be more interesting to see a similar table based on lasthits as they over time should reflect gang composition(talking tens of thousand of killmails).
