Does anyone use a Dongle to play Eve on?

If so, which one is the best one to go for?

I will only require the use of it at the weekend when I'm visiting my girlfriend and I'll probably only need it for a couple of hours at the most when the (stupid) programmes that all the women love to watch are on.

Many Thanks in advance.

I used a Mobile broadband dongle on the Three network when switching my ISP's it did the job but not a long term solution as its expensive as is all mobile broadband in the UK.

Edit taking a look at the three store its alot cheaper now lol

Watch those stupid programmes with your girlfriend and she'll be going for your Dongle.

If not, she'll be looking for a better Dongle. Razz

Thats cool, thanks, that is the one I started to look at.

I merely just looking to use one for a couple of hours at the most when they are on, I can't stand them, because she hasn't got internet access where she lives, in fact I'm using her laptop and dongle to write this, just that she refuses to let me download and use her rig for me to play the game on here, hence why my question.......

Many Huawei modems have a mini-SD slot, which enables you to have the actual game with you at all times. Very handy.Very Happy

When you get old enough, you will realise that when you have a g/f, you dont just screw her 24/7.

I personally use a Huawei E1752. It has the aforementioned mini-SD slot, which also turns the modem into a storage device.

Here's what I do when I'm out and about. DOn't bother with a Dongle, they're are rip off, 30 quid a month for 1gb (or there abouts) I don't think so.

Have you got a 3G\HSDPA enabled phone? Then get yourself an O2 PAYG sim card. Put it on the TextnWeb tariff. This will give you 500mb of data and 300 text for 10 quid a month. Then using the software that came with your phone, tether it so you can use it as a modem. I live in a good coverage area and have no problems whatsoever logging in to Eve. I wouldn't PVP, but it's enough to login, check mails, market orders and corp chat etc..

Also you'll be surprised at how far 500mb will stretch, if just using it to login. Eve is surprisingly very light when it comes to bandwidth usage.

Hope this helps...Very Happy

Cool idea, thanks. I have a Sony xperia x10, so I know I should be able to use it to act as a modem. Something for me to consider.

I know you can get a dongle for 80 that will give you unlimited internet for the year, also on three which I may consider.

I studied abroad for a semester at St. Andrews University. I used a 3 dongle and it worked great for me the entire semester.

If you have a contract phone, use Bluetooth Teathering with an O2 account as there internet is unlimited on contract phones if you pay 5 extra a month :)

Well, I'm only planning to use the dongle at the weekends for only a couple of hours at a time, ie, to log on, swap skills over maybe run a mission or two.

Not looking to get a contract one, so I only want to get a pay and go one, but you have all given me food for thought, hence all the research I'm doing by asking you guys in here for your advice.

Once I've found a decent one that works well, I will let you all know which one I've gone with!

Hey Lothar, could you elaborate on this? I would like to tether my Blackberry i have from an O2 contract to change skills and check mail. However, I've heard O2 will charge a couple of pounds per megabyte for this.

What phone have you done this with?

hi i use a 3 mobile dongle on prepay it cost me 15 gbp per month for which i get 3gig of dowload and i run 4 accounts box style mining for up to 5 or 8 hours a day which is cheaper than any others i have seen :) oh and no i dont suffer from lag in peak times :) Shocked

edit oh and some time's i link my mobile up as i get free internet if i spend a 10 a month on O2 so win win win :)

It's totally possible to play eve over a 3g connection, when my modem went **** up I was changing skills and running missions using a usb tethered phone with no problems. I used PDAnet (works on android, iphone and blackberry) to do the tethering and Vodafone didn't charge me for the data.

I'm not in the UK, so I can't suggest what to use, but can confirm that I don't have a problem dualboxing Eve, even doing PVP while on TS3, even after I reached my download limit and my speed was cut by a factor of 20.

Not tried it in large fights yet, think it would struggle then.

Will have answers to that in a week tho :)

Your Blackberry contract will most likely use the Blackberry.net portal instead of the default O2.wap. Unfortunately they're not ideal for tethering. And consequently if you use the O2wap settings you may well be charged. However, they may have changed it by now so there's no harm in trying.

Just install the software that came with your phone. Plug it in and make sure it's connected and detected. I've no experience with Blackberry software unfortunately, but it should have an internet option somewhere.

I've used all brands of phones for this accept blackberry and it's worked on every model. I'm Pretty sure you'll have to enter the O2 APN manually. This link is the default O2 contract and PAYG wap settings. But again, for Blackberrys these details could be totally different. O2 WAP settings.
