Hello C&P. In the past 36 hours I have acquired approximately 600 mil combined in ransoms (maybe 4/6 accepting). It is nice to see that the players of Eve are still happy to pay even in these harsh economic times and indeed that those who offer them (at least myself) are still willing to uphold their word. So C&P I ask you to tell me about your recent ransoms, good, bad and ugly.

My most recent ransom was of a missionbear Drake pilot. I stole from him, he shot me, and I came back in my Typhoon. There was still an NPC sentry gun left so when he kept taking damage when he was in hull. He didn't understand how to give me ISK; normally I kill people who dawdle since they're trying to weasel out of the ransom but he was a noob so I kept checking d-scan (to see if he had buddies coming) and let him pay me. The sentry gun ended up killing him right as he paid me but I returned the ransom since he was new and wasn't trying to stall for his friends to arrive.

Pinned down a rather stupid tengu pilot who believed himself unscannable (lolhamz). After a short discussion of "probe hax," we agreed that he liked his mods more than I did and the sum of 500mil was paid (honestly should have asked for more, but I was ready to log when I noticed him in local) so he could go on his merry way.

Unfortunately he came back a few days later during a corp gate op. and was splattered while attempting to haggle our price down. ugh

I was semi afk watching a pos on my cloaky alt in a wormhole when suddenly I heard a loud crashing noise and guns firing so in a reflex I warp off without looking, thinking I had decloaked.

When I was in warp I noticed my cloak was still active so it must have been something else ... warp back to the pos and there I see a carrier killing one of his corp mates in an indy, a pos which is lacking a forcefield and a screen full of text flags reading "offline". 0_0

Since we had our small bs gang waiting in the neighbouring highsec system I relayed this info to them half screaming from excitement and we quickly made a go for it. We warped on top of the tower and were just a second too late to tackle that friggin' carrier and we saw him vanish towards their other pos :<

We then proceeded to blow up stuff up, stole everything worthwhile that dropped and flew out a free raven and cheetah.

Since it was late already and we didn't have time to take the large tower down we struck up a convo in local, ransoming their secure cans and what was left of the pos. Only after we told them that their time was up and we would start with blowing up secure cans in ten seconds, they complied and we settled for a 300 million ransom which we honoured.

All in all it might have netted us around 150 mil in ships, blueprints and mods, and 300 mil bounty. Could have been much better maybe but not bad for the second bounty attempt I was involved in.

After we were done I asked them one more thing:

Dark Pony > Can I ask you one question?
W-space guy 1 > sure
Dark Pony > WTF happened with your pos?
W-space guy 1 > got blowed up
Dark Pony > Because WE didn't take those shields down
W-space guy 2 > the real question is how did you know
Dark Pony > how did that happen?
Dark Pony > We didn't
W-space guy 1 > a spy
W-space guy 1 i caught him taken fuel

Now what are the chances on that happening right in front of your eyes and at the moment that you already have a gang close by and primed for action? We was feeling lucky that night Cool

the last ransom I remember trying was against a guy in a mega, about 2 weeks old in a lowsec belt. **** it lets try for 2billion

well he didn't pay but he ended up putting 200 something mil bounty on my head (sadly that was far short of making me the most wanted player in eve like he said he would, ah well) Very Happy

the last successful ransom I remember was against a noob in a caracal, I took 3 mil and let him go. I'm willing to bet it was worth more than what would have dropped.

and the best ransom I can remember was Omae Gaw'd ransoming my buddy in a corpum a-type fit zealot for practically nothing. (like 3 years ago now)

caught a freighter on a gate in my hurricane (back when i was still kind of a newb). I had to warp out and repair unfortunetly, but was lucky and caught the freighter going to the next gate (when he should have warped to a station). I got into the next system but missed the freighter warping off to a high sec gate .... "damn" i thought. So defeated i warped to the gate and waited a bit .... but he never showed. I warp to the planet and there he was begging me for a ransom. I took 235 mil since he had pos fuel i had no way of transporting out. That freighter was my largest ransom ... and the only freighter i've run into who accepted a ransom

Not really recent, but my best ransom ever included a drunk guy flying a ferox and handing over 1.83bn isk for it. I ended up giving 1bn back and scored a total of like 830m or so.

Once had a wartarget ferrying ships out of his highsec pos, I shed a solitary manly tear as we missed his charon on gate.

Two minutes later he tried escaping in his CNR, luckily me and my lover managed to tackle him.

We offered a 500m ransom but he said he had no money to pay, I mentioned the Charon we saw earlier oh herro! Charons sold for 770m at the time.

I still gaze up at the sky at night wondering what that beautiful bastard had fitted.

good to see that people are still ransoming, especially nice to see that there are still people decent enough to give the isksb back if it goes **** up (the guy in the mission where the drake died, and the guy with the 1bil + ferox :P)

i remember ransoming really new guys in frigs / cruisers for litterally tens of thousands in some cases (50,000 isks for a noob in a frig), just because it gets the into the habbit of paying up. on one occasion a kid in a bantam mining in low sec got popped by npc's at a belt as i was ransoming him (i didnt have npc's on my overview), i brought him an osprey and some mining lasers and "protected" him while he mined in the system i was working out of (he was a decent sort, good sense of humour about it, and was pretty civil), he was so suprised that i had done something half way decent for him - he thought that "pirate" and "ganking griefing lowsec ****" were the same thing.

best thing is that the kid was in our public channel a few weeks later and gave me heads up on a freighter which was about to jump while i was off at the station, i managed to get to the gate in time to catch him and ransomed him for something in the region of 300mil :P

i think i need to look through my logs and see what his name was, find out whatever became of him now :)

I must not be a true pirate as i always blow up ships i catch. I do ransom pods on a regular basis but have yet to see an isk amount that would make me want to miss out on the pretty explosion of a ship , let alone the killmails i use for bragging rights.

I hope to someday become a real pirateRolling Eyes

I don't usually ransom at all when ninja-looting. Well, I do feel sad for the noob cruiser pilots who doesn't know better, so I just ransom them for a joke that makes me LoL and let them go. During the last year I've received quite a good amount of LoL's

It really surprises me how gladly people ask for and pay ransoms. Because I always see a lot of people saying "I'd have taken the ISK and blown him up". Well, maybe it's because those people never score a good catch worth a ransom anyway. ugh

Paid a 25m ransom for my +3 set once (stupid cloaky sabres and zoomed in camera), but also ransomed someone for his pod landing in a drag bubble for 25m. In both cases the moneys changed the hands within seconds and we let each other go.

Some other time was me catching a Tengu in a belt, who offered me 300m to let him live. I rejected (200m more and he'd still have his Tengu), because 300m was not quite worth my first solo T3 kill... And because he and rats were close to blowing me up. Laughing

Then just yesterday my best ransom catch I ever had. A Drake in a C1 wormhole. I jumped in in a Nanocane (yeah, that was a terrible idea), collapsed the entry WH while doing so, got instaprimaried by the sleepers in the site and had to leave.
He then convoed me, where I offered him the first ransom for me giving him a new WH exit. I was thinking about ~50m, which should have been worth his probably T1 fitted Drake and loot, but fortunately he ignored me.
So after 10 minutes of reloading shields (he was scanning for an exit with T1 probes and 15 sites in the system Laughing), I decided to warp in on him again and tried to take him down. Was a little hard as my guns were already 90% damaged, but well, it worked out eventually.

I got really mad when I missed the pod for 1 second of lock timing, but then he asked me for a ransom & WH exit. He told me he had ~500m in implants (ratting in a Drake in a C1 WH), so we agreed on 250m ISK. "Half up front, second part when I'm out", "show me the WH at range"... Yeah. Laughing

So contacted Chribba, Darknesss, and eventually Grendell who was the first to reply. Everything went quick and I'm 250m richer. Very Happy

Was checking wormholes in and around our home system; found an Absolution and a Drake doing anomalies in a black hole. Got a fleet together (a few BCs, rapier, broadsword), waited until they'd downed all bar one of the last wave of sleepers, then snuck up on the Abso in my covops and had the rapier and HIC jump into the hole and warp to me for tackle - broadsword at 0, rapier at 30, BCs jumping in once they had the Abso bubbled and webbed. The Drake got out (the warpin position I provided wasn't the greatest, derp derp derp), but we took the Abso down and, after some fairly civil negotiations, ransomed his pod for 200m. He paid up, we dropped point and headed back home.

Not the most remarkable story, but a smooth and satisfyingly drama/rage-free operation.

my last ransom, that's actually worth mentioning, was a thanny pilot. I bumped him off station with my machariel and logged in my alt to char selection, just in case. I asked for 500m, as this was pre-insurance nerf/boost. He laughed at me and sent fighters at me. So, I logged in the Nyx and warped it to station. He changed his tune pretty quick and paid.

I was reading this topic yesterday. It opened up a whole new world for me, truly. So, armed with my new knowledge (I am a noob of just over a month or so) I started checking star charts around major trade hubs. I have seen freighters get ganked at gates in high sec before and wanted to see if I might happen to chance upon something juicy.

So, I was sitting around Hek, at a gate with major traffic because I saw this battle ship just hanging out. I had scanned the battle ship and realized that it was only using T1 mods along with very few rounds of ammo. So I thought this must be a suicider, there are also two fast cruisers sitting nearby, and all were from the same corp, a gank team.

So I waited for about 20 min, just hanging out, reading what contracts were available and making note of the corp, and the individuals who were camping the gate. Low and behold a freighter shows up, so I make a note of who is running the freighter, as the Battleship shot off one volley and popped it, it was fast, clean and efficient. I think a dead giveaway really that he was ready to pop someone was the t1 garbage, and the fact he was running his ballistic control.

He battleship got popped so I salvaged that while I watched the fast cruisers go to work on the freighter, I wanted to see how in the world they were going to get away with all that cargo, welp, they just stuffed it into large secure containers and popped them out without anchoring, so I docked up, grabbed my industrial ship, warped back and picked up 5 large containers and went back to the station. Then I sent a message to the gate gankers to let them know I picked up their containers that were not anchored, and I sent a message to the victim offering to ransom 5 large secure containers.

The freighter told me to stick it, so I closed out the conversation box he requested with me and focused on the gate gankers, all said and done I packed the containers into a ship and made a "special" auction for them and walked away with 100 mil for my troubles. I ended up selling the t1 garbage for just under a few mil, so all in all not a bad haul. I figured I would share my experience before I head back to the gate and wait, I saw another prospective group of gankers at another gate I am going to camp and watch.

Seriously, at least make the story believable. Tip: A Battleship cannot pop a Frieghter in one volley :-p Unless by Freighter you mean Iteron V...
