For the second year in a row, CCP has decided not to market EVE at GenCon in Indianapolis. Indeed, this year they decided to market atmosphere. They had a small lounge with a bar & DJ. That was it. No marketing on the products, just music, alcohol, a couple devs and a place to relax.
I for one think this is an opportunity lost. I'd love to see a face to face alliance tournament held at GenCon. The Indianapolis convention center is a massive facility. I don't think it would be too hard to find some space for 30 or 40 PCs and let players have at one another. Further, I think seeing how players band together to play would be a better demonstration of the game than the selling of atmosphere that they did this year. Save the bar for bragging rights after the fights.
Kudos to the devs that were down there. I do appreciate the time you took in answering questions and listening to the feedback. You guys rock.
