Guys,

Just after a bit of understanding i guess.. i have seen nearly all dreads active tanked. I was wondering a couple of things; If you are in a fleet with logistics support, why active tank? I haven't seen many carrier fits with cap transfers on them to maintain an active tank, carriers tend to have shields and/or armour being the majority in the high slots?

I have EFT'd some pretty decent buffer tanked dreads, getting about 3.1 mil EHPs from a nag. Why not rely solely on carriers for triage?

In siege mode remote repair can't be used on the dread.

Well, if a dread is sieged you can't RR him, you also can't RR a carrier in triage.

For a start a sieged dread has a significant boost to its active tank. Both in cycle time and rep amount IIRC.

Secondly, as others have said, the siege module means that you have to rely on your local tank so it makes sense to make that local tank as strong as possible.

Thirdly a true passive tank drastically effects your cap recharge, as you require a high capacitor level to jump a passive tank including SPRs in the lows is detrimental to your mobility.

I must agree with the OP buffertanked dreads suported by triage/normal carriers sounds like a good idea BUT Im missing the most important part about why dreads use the siege module (and therefore active tank cause of the bonus wich kinda does rep speed x4). When dreads enter siege mode there damage is multiplied by 625% so effectively need 7!! unsieged dreads to out dps a sieged dread.

I think anything remote and beneficial (Fleet bonuses excluded) cannot be done to a sieged dread.

Still it is true that for the larger engagements an active tank is not really useful. Shield dreads kinda need it to get leadership effects (to get shields back to 100% again), but in general it is just hoping you drop out of siege before you die, and your local tank wont change much about that.

For smaller scale engagements it is useful to have local rep if that means you can just tank enemies.
