I remember the one that they did for comic-con New York back a few years ago. Booth was bigger along with screen setup to play "this is eve" music video nonstop. They also had stations set up to try out eve on the test server. Sadly it's kinda hard to get the feeling of eve that. Moreover they even had a panel for it but it was at dead ass 0800 on a Sunday morning. Most people in New York around that time are passout from a hangover or going to church. |

Originally by: CopyCatz Edited by: CopyCatz on 21/08/2010 18:18:22 So yesterday I arrived at the Koelner messe for a 2 day stay at the gamescom convention. The first thing I did ofcourse was find the CCP booth in the MMO hall. I read reports about last years presentation, but still it was a shocker to me. A small table with an even smaller laptop (while everyone else is showing off their games on 17 inch alienware machines..). One CCP guy and a visitor hovering over the laptop making impossible for other people to see what they were doing. There was however a larger lcd screen showing the butterfly effect promo. But in general people just walked by, only the occasional "hmm whats that game about". In the back a small shady room where the meetings took place I guess. It made me feel part of some niche game where the incrowd rather doesn't have new people interested in the game. I didn't really feel the need to go talk to the CCP person (they don't look like they want to talk much anyway, plus there wasn't even anything being handed out), but I would like to make some suggestions for next year:
1. Get a bigger booth. Put a display in with ship models. 2. Get more and bigger screens and show gameplay on it! 3. Give out goodies for crying out loud. Even the weirdest korean publishers had dozens of people in front of their booth because good looking ladies were handing out t-shirts and other useless stuff. It's amazing to see what people do there to get an ugly lanyard. 4. Hire nice looking ladies! 5. Hand out t-shirts! 6. Announce something of interest at the convention. A few hundred meters away the Wow boot (about 30 times bigger) had a queue of about 300 people wanting to see a preview of some new expansion. Combine with #5 for maximum queueing.
Yes I am repeating myself but free stuff and girls seem to be the critical factors there to get attention for your products. There were some pretty horrible MMO games that had lots of people just hanging around for freebees.
Eve doesn't deserve this.
Maybe ccp figured out that these 'gamer conventions' are not the marketing pot of gold that the event organizer likes to spin them as? i.e. people who go to game conventions already know about your game or only go there to mob their favorite game and to drool at the booth girls they will never have a chance in hell of taking out. |

You got to be kidding. Booth girls are chronically underpaid and overstressed. They love to be comforted. Of course it DOES help a tiny bit if you work at the booth and invite them to "stress relief" parties after work ... |

How is some slappers handing out t-shirts going to help CCP get more players interested ? |

visibility?
The more people run around in eve-online tshirts, the more people see the eve-online logo and might check out what eve-online could be and also might to try it out. |

When your servers creek under the current player load then it's probably not a good idea to try and get a few thousand new users on within days..
For the servers to cope with more load they will need a redesign.. I mean, yea, right now it's no biggie, but if blobs double in size then the servers will not cope at all, and having nodes falling over with thousands of users will mean that everyone see's failings..
You could socially / design engineer blobs to be ineffective as numbers increase, I think superweapons were some step to this..
But yea, Dont give us 8,000 more users, cause the servers cant cope... CCP makes a good bit of money, they have a good product, just leave it the way it is. |

Ut oh... looks like someone at CCP got their ass fired (or at least a stern talking to) as more than one eye witness says their breath smelled of alcohol and they were not interested in talking. Suggestion: #1: Order 5000 crappy, crappy keychains and hand em out. #2: Hire a pitch man (not professional) #3: Show real PvP recaps from the alliance tourney |
