For as long as I've been playing EVE I've avoided PvE wherever possible and been merrily dirt-poor as a consequence. However, my main is planning to get into capitals over the next few months and now I come to it caps are really quite expensive buggers to fly.

Who'd have thought it?

Anyway, I've worked out that I'll need around 4B to get myself everything I need (skills, ships, mods, f**ktonne of Warrior Is to pad drone bay) and that's assuming I can add properly and manage not to **** anything up, so 5-6B is my eventual 'safe' target.

Considering that my wallet very rarely contains more than 500M, this is a bit of a worry.

At the moment I make most of my 'oh-crap-I'm-broke' ISK by semi-AFK L4 missioning in a Domi, but I've decided that this is an endeavour worth my effort and willingness to buckle down and get mah carebear on. This involves grabbing my alt, paying attention and dual-boxing, and is where you guys come in.

As far as ISK/hour goes, would I be better served by having him in a mediocre BS, a well-skilled Guardian or something else entirely?

He only has Amarr BS III at the moment, along with similarly shoddy Large Laser skills, but nevertheless my EFT-whoring has him doing about 300 DPS at a around 80km with an okay tank in an Apoc. This, along with my Domi, should tear through rooms of rats in pretty short order and is pretty damn survivable.

Alternatively, I could stick him in a Guardian (with logi V only a few days away) and fit the Domi for maximum gank whilst managing aggro to keep the logi alive.

Finally, there's something like anti-frig/cruiser pulse-Zealot. Or something.

In case these things matter:
  • Running PC + Laptop so it's easy to manage both accounts at once

  • Running Cal Navy, so lots of Guristas

  • Alt has good gunnery skills, awful missile skills, good armour skills, mediocre shield skills (basically Amarr FOTM toon)

Sorry for the wall of text.

Looking forward to any advice Very Happy

TL;DR Version

Dual-box L4 missioning. Would a logi, Zealot or mediocre second BS be most useful companion to Domi?

Well for missions get your second account in a gank fitted bs, you don't need the extra tank from a logi ship and a Zealot will do far less damage than a properly fit bs.

Lowsec missions have nothing to do with the player, and everything with the fit. A pvp player in big fat pve fit bs is just as dead as carebear in same ship.

Even at 80km, 300 dps is absurdly low. Now factor in Gurista's high em resist on lasers, dps will sink so low you'll have trouble breaking rat shield boost on higher bounty bses if alone.

Fitting the domi for max gank with logi won't yield much better results. The nature of droneboat is such that you really can't boost gank by much just by removing tank, like with gunboats.

Tbh, the best course of action is specialize one toon for carebearing, to finance pvp alt, like practically everyone, myself included, is doing. Gotta get those skills up. A high end mach/nm does well over 1k long range dps and blitz through lvl4s in minutes.

Have your 2nd train for a Domi and you can have both BS DPS and remote reps Twisted Evil

I'll add my voice to the chorus of "put the alt in a sentry/logi domi".

More DPS makes missions go faster, ISK/hr goes up, sunshine rainbows and unicorns.

There's also a guide in the EVElopedia dealing with Making ISK which might give you other ideas (and hint hint, there's a dev blog about canning ghost RP or some such).

The domi is lazymode, but you'll be hard pressed to find a mission that calls for rr if you're doing lvl4's. Id say just do the misisons with a single ship and have your alt hock things at your local hub using decent trade skills. Industry/Trader alts are a mission runner's best friend. Grind all the trash loot into minerals, get a good sell on your goods, and have plent of orders to spare fishing for resonably priced tags to make optimal isk/LP.

I started dual box missioning with a Mael and a geddon. They are a great combination shield tanked maelstrom with arties and an alt in geddon with cap relay, shield relay, tbeems and salvagers no guns at all but drones can help with frigs.

If you run into cap issues you can use a tempest and spider with the geddon but I never ran into that as a problem.

I have since moved up to dual marauders but other than tbeem bonuses and more highs to play with not alot of difference IMO.

Cheers for the advice guys.

Final question - after I make a couple billion, would you guys advise me to re-invest in a reasonably-pimped faction BS/marauder for the sole purpose of missioning? Do they actually make enough of a difference in mission-times to make it worth it?

Thanks again.

I can attest to that. Especially the last part.

Has anybody suggested a loot and salvage alt yet? Well, depends on the way you do/choose missions but for me it gives around 100% bonus to bounties, lp and isk from agent. She simply sneaks behind me and does her job, usually a mission takes me a maximum of 10% more time this way.

Absolutely! Just be careful since you will be turning yourself into a loot piņata. Check billboards for Golems in Emolgranlan.

agree that domi is lazy mode, I'd rather go with a 2nd dps turret based ship, or maybe even just a raven, 102302930912 isk farmers can't be wrong!

oh and lv4 missions for caps just seems wrong imo

If you are a 0.0 player, why mission? Properly chained belts will yield a butt load of cash quicker than missions. The second account is your BC salavage/looter. Between those, you will have you isk within a 4-6 weeks.

IF I had to guess...

a) He has too much competition for local belts and/or plexes due to over-farming corpmates.
b) He lives in rented space that sucks.
c) He lives in Profldence or some other region that is too much of a mess to rat efficiently.

Yeah, that was the thing that pushed me over the edge too. I'm sure some people here will remember when I'd make statements about how much I despised running missions. Still do too - just that I'm a lot better at it now. Laughing

Never get rid of that ship... but don't use it either unless you really **** up and basically have to start over.

2 Battleships > 1 Battleship + Logistics... unless the second BS is really bad. I'd personally go with the two battleship approach, because it feels more survivable and less error prone than managing aggro for your Guardian alt. But, a max gank Domi can really put out the hurt.

I guess the question comes to whether you can get more DPS out of the Domi with the logi alt than you expect the Apoc to add (consider an Abaddon, seriously).

No, don't do that. If you look at the amount of hitpoints in a mission, there's a really tiny percentage that's in frigates.

I'd personally try to go this route:
[Abaddon, Low Skill 7 Tach Mission Abaddon]
Imperial Navy Heat Sink
Imperial Navy Heat Sink

Imperial Navy Large Armor Repairer
Imperial Navy Energized Adaptive Nano Membrane

Note the logistics drones. That's a really useful trick - but it significantly hurts the Domi's DPS. I wouldn't use it unless you have to.

Personnally, I'd go for a Command Ship. They can put out a ton of DPS and you stick a gang-link (ideally the armour resist one for you) on it. That means less tank need on your ships for more gank Twisted Evil

Battleclinic shows mostly Hulks/Dessies it seems. Which make sense, last time I did a mission in Emol at least three people turned up in my mission to clear away all the loot/salvage I didn't want. Which I thought was rather nice of them :)

That looks like hell to manage between a booster domi and a tachy baddon. What kind of cap life are you getting on those fits?

They're both cap stable with only guns going, so its not as bad as it sounds. Having 2 gank battleships on the field makes for no tank required in a lot of ways. A lot of the time I just use the Abaddon as tank and turn the repper on after the mission. They really do go by that fast.

Ok, no idea if this works for PvE but how about spider tanking? Would it be the most effective option?

Another nightmare to run different missions at the same time ?
