As a PRVTR (you guys know what we do) we see an odd precursor to alliance collapse, noobships, shuttles, cyno frigs and covert ops in jita. Usually these things are moving newly cloned pods around, newly purchased 'escape' cyno frigs or you cant catch me covert ops.

very interesting. Of course in retrospect that seems kind of obvious, but it would take being active in space in jita for long stretches of time and paying attention to the corporation and alliance tags, which I guess would make you guys almost uniquely positioned to observe that particular signal flag.

I guess for a more transient alliance like ours that could also just indicate moving to a new target location, since with isk as it is now in eve it is often easier to just buy your new ships in the new location than move them all, but for a larger more static alliance it makes sense for that to be a more significant indicator.

"Success is going from failure to failure without loss of enthusiasm."

Any given organisation of people will only continue to exist for as long as it's members deem it successful.
Morale makes or breaks your corp/alliance/block, everything else is just speculation as to what has what impact on morale.

is what the thread/question/issue is about and your thesis, nicely referenced as it may be, is obvious.

Hardly.

What I was trying to cram into your brain with my previous post is that there is hardly some sort of know-all end-all precursor to a 'failcascade' as there is no definition as to what constitutes a failcascade.

Precursors would differ greatly between different sort of entities, as their expectations, goals and plans would differ from each other. The only 'unifying' constant and indicator of an entity starting a fail-cascade would be a lack of morale. Whether the symptoms of this take form in cyno frigs/covops or extended logg-off times or whatever they are not 'proof' of an imminent failcascade.

'lack of morale' IS a precursor to a failcascade, 'covops frigs leaving jita' is a possible iteration of said lack of morale.

An apple rots like an apple when put under the same conditions. Cause and effect can reproduce the same outcome from a similar squence of events.

There are 1000's of butterflies in the world, all of which diffrent in their own unique way however they all started the same, the all turn from catapilliar into butterfly and all will eventually die.

The precusors are there, the pattern of events that happen when an alliance starts to fall apart is easy for anyone to see if you know what to look for, ultimatly if the same sequence of events happends caused by external and internal factors.

An alliance will come into issues when it alters from its orginal goals, if the targets for which its founding members have been achived or have been altered or replaced. The same as if the driving force for these goals are removed. Simply put the first sign of an alliance in trouble is one without a general goal or objective, bordom soon sinks into the ranks without any global target.

The second generalized thing I would say is fuction. If an alliance is unable to fuction as it should this too can be a sign that the alliance is in trouble. What can cause this is the loss of FC, main leadership roles, industrial and logistical backbones and such. All of which can be effected by internal and external factors such as corps leaving or wars.

The third main sign would be community. All alliances have their own way of maintaining their communities and its the most flexible here. From your military based ranks system with internal promotion as the main drive to the republic or democratic systems, I find it funny that capitalism on a corperate level within eve is the least effective, it works on a player level and an alliance level but as a corp its really hard to drive a corperation on capitalistic ideals, that may be due to the fact I'm a pvper and have not been in many industry based corps. Regardless all have their own signs to look out for a healthy community. Good trade, Ship Replacement programs, New concepts being implemented and tests/trials of them are always a good thing to see, the same as things like internal lotteries, campaigns, special events, inter-corp activity, all are good signs of a healthy community. Steer away from alliance that have moved away from being for the members and more towards being run like a business. An example being a corp being removed due to their figures being down regardless of them being a vital organ of the alliances personality and soul, when an alliance starts panic cutting you need to start panicing. The same can be in reverse mind, if an alliance is soaking up new membership to meet its demands that always leads to issues.

These are just the 3 basics, the end of the day you just need to go with your gut feeling. Most alliance can bounce back from most of these but its a long and boring wait until they do finally get their act together :P

That's pretty funny considering a corp 1/3 your size, and in WI. for 1/3 of the time you were there was just a few short weeks from passing you failures.

I'm pretty sure one of the SYS-K leaders has a "Cosmo moment" recording that is almost as priceless as the WI. recording. He even threatened, in RL, one of the Cepta directors. Ended with great laughs! I'll see if I can't dig it up for the LaughingLaughingLaughing.
