Has anyone noticed a pattern for the number you may get at a site? I'm currently running class 2 wh's and I've noticed a pattern between me and a friend.

It seems that you can run the sites in any ship you want. What may be a determining factor for the number of nano-ribbons is the ship you choose to use for salvage.

In my case, I would run them in a BS and salvage as I go. I've done a few dozen sites and what I have noticed is I may get 1 nano-ribbon in 6 sites salvaging as I go in my BS.

In my friend's case he runs sites in his Tengu and salvages in a frigate. He's averaging 3 - 4 per site.

So, I ran a few more sites switching to a frigate for salvaging. Sure enough, I'm starting to get 3 - 4 ribbons per site. I then used a cruiser to salvage and I seem to get about 1 - 2 ribbons per site.

Anyone else noticed this pattern?

Well, seeing as you've let the cat out of the bag I may as well chip in as somebody's bound to figure it out:

Its not linked specifically to size, but to ship class. I'm averaging around 8 ribbons per site in a C2. My secret? I use a t2 salvage tackle rigged Orca ..

why do people always have to blab about this stuff? Evil or Very Mad

I'm pretty sure the bonus ribbons a salvaging orca yields is related to the WH capital escalation mechanics.

I have had different numbers with a t2 rigged and modules cormorant in like 6 core citadels in a row. Totally different numbers in each one.

Confirming the only thing that affects nanoribbons is how many people you killed the previous day.

Capital Ships mechanics does not work in low grade wormholes and even then an Orca is an exeption and does not cause BS's to spawn ( in C5, C6 ). Does Orca have to be rigged for salvaging or any Orca will do? Tried this last night with cargo Orca and my yield from 2 sites was 3 nanoribbons ...

The Orca tricks works, but I've found in my salvaging cormorant that if I keep my speed at 66% of total, that I get 50% more nanoribbons.

As you all know though, the more nanoribbons you get, the less salvage of other types, but of course this doesn't matter since the nanoribbons are worth so much more.

I find if you salvage in a tankless ship without stabs you will get more ribbions. especially if your not alone in wh.

Is this the right thread for the freemasons anonymous meeting?

I've found if I let my cat run across my keyboard whilst salvaging sleepers I get more yellowribbons, sorry nanoribbons...

You definitely get the most nanoribbons from sleepers if before starting to salvage, you announce in local: "Salvaging now in a <ship type>. Nearest planet is <number>."

Hmmm I seem to get the best results when using a salvaging Rokh with T2 shield rigs and a full midslot rack of large T2 extenders except that one BS sized MWD.
I tend to switch that on when I start to salvage.

Works like a charm.

Has anyone here ever read the book "Fooled by Randomness"? The human brain is wired to detect patterns and associations, it's what kept primitive people alive. In the absence of a truly threatening environment, this behaviour exhibits itself as superstition.

My experience of WH salvage (and my corp lives in one) is that it's random. And yes, we do have an orca, and we have salvaged in everything from battleships to frigates.

In my view, best not to worry about it and fit up a catalyst (or similar) with 4 tractors, 4 salvagers, 3 salvage tackle rigs and a microwarp drive. However many ribbons are available, you get them quickly, which lessens the probability of being ambushed and losing them all.

Sticking an orca in the line of fire in the hope of a few more ribbons seems like a big risk (~380m for a fully rigged orca?)

there is no pattern, the number difference each time with identical sites is the random element.

I use a salvage tackle hurricane on the C5 sites we do. The average is ~15-20 nanoribbons depending on how many battleships. However, I have seen as few as 5, and as many as 35.

It's random.... (with a higher chance to drop off larger wrecks ofc) The only thing T2 salvagers are gonna do is reduce your # of failed attempts...

Dont be fooled - some people try to mislead you in this thread or make fun. Your findings are ofc correct, apart from the obligatory implants.

Yet a hint from my side: try salvaging those in a T3 cruiser with only salvager II in HIs, maxed implants, wake limiter module for propulsion and dissonance electronic module. Youll see the difference in C3+ and even more in C5+
