OK, I joined 2 mths ago and was instantly overwhelmed with info.

All I did was run missions for Caldari in sequence and approx 2 weeks ago - I got shot in Gallente space.
Since I was like WTF - I noticed my standings are -5.32 towards Gallente.

Now then - I realised thats kinda bad because a lot of my corp is connected to Gallente and I can not transverse their space...

- to remedy this - I equipped a ship and went to gallente lowsec, did a doesn L1 missions, my corp mates did several L4 missions with me in fleet and - Gallente standings didnt budge even by .01 point.

Now then - how can I help this?? Plus telling me - you shouldnt run those missions isnt helping because - NOW i know.

I.

P.S.

There should be some warning - like - hey NEWB - youll be cut of half a highsec space if you run this mission. You sure? Yes / No.

You get faction standings by doing their storyline missions, you get those after doing 16 "normal" missions. When someone fleets up with you, you only get increased corporation standings, never faction standings.

Another thing is that you can do Minmatar missions and their storyline missions also increase Gallente standings as they're allied. You only get half from what you'd get from Gallente missions, though.

You can also train the Diplomacy skill.

A little more info about standings.

I definitely agree this should be in the tutorial.

Nice - training diplomacy to L2 really helped... im at -4.0x standings toward gal...

Ill cope and get out of this mess... The problem is that agents in our 0space home are all gallente as well so ill have to get my standings over -2 :D

Thanks for the aditional info :)

A few things need adding here.

First to get a standing of -5.32 with Gallente, you must have been accepting Empire Kill missions that had you killing Gallente ships or structures. You should always decline such missions, only accept the pirate kill missions. Just running missions for Caldari will never drop your standing below -5.0, it is capped at that level (before diplomacy modifies the end score), killing their ships and structures is what really messes you up and it isn't capped (until -10).

Second to sort out you Gallente standing (other than by Diplomacy), you can run missions for Minmatar (as someone suggested) or even better Sisters of Eve - the latter is better cause it doesn't trash your standings with Caldari or Amarr, which Minmatar missions do. However, note that it is only the storyline missions that you get after every 16th normal mission that effects faction standing.

Third, you don't need to get your Gallente standings above -2.0 to start running Gallente missions. If you have access to Gallente mission agents outside of Gallente Empire space, you can always run any level one agent who has negative quality - that will start building the rep with that particular corp, leading to higher quality agents and levels in that particular corp. I'm not 100% sure, but assume you will get Storyline missions after every 16th normal mission as well even though your Faction standing is poor.
