So I am new to the Ishtar and would like to know the pros and cons of amror vs shield fits. I am looking to do some PVE anoms to get out of BSs for a change of pace. I am planning on using sentries and keeping at range to mitigate damage. I know that both fits are viable. I just want to know what seems like it makes more sense. I am not opposed to being able to change up fits a bit for 0.0 PVP. It just seems that the shield fits have a tighter fit, and the while the armore fits might be a bit easier, it seems a bit on the slow side.

Thanks in advance

Depends on the rats.

If they mostly do Therm or kin or explosive, passive shield tank is probably best,
if they do mostly EM/therm, armor tanking is probably best.

Armor buffered it has a slightly better tanking potential and free midslots which either provide tackle/utility, or most importantly drone tracking computers making an armor setup a better choice with sentries. Shield buffered it's more mobile, which may sound very stump in comparison to all those reasons to fly it armor tanked above, but you should never underestimate the overall importance of mobility. The Ishtar is nice since it is so extremely flexible that it can basicly adapt to any gang - provided that you enjoy using drones. Long, short / medium ranges / shield or armor / active, buffer (or even passive) / standard drones or sentries; and you do alright in any respective gang as long as you understand the practise and limitations of drones (or more importantly, enjoy using them and their mechanics because it involves some flavour and possible frustration).

In short, the deciding factors is tank preference within your gang (or the damage of rats) and the outlook on sentries.

Well the rats are Sansha. On paper, it seems like armor would come out on top due to natural EM hole in the shield set up. But maybe an anti EM rig to plug the hole might do the trick. There are not a whole lot of hit points to hide behind in the armor fit if you get webbed or collide with something and lose transversal. I may start with a shield fit and see how it goes. Shield rigs are cheap. If it sucks, I can switch it out i guess.

Basically it is this...

Shield tanked you can fall asleep...

Ar tanked is way more damage...

Shield tanking forces you to lose 2x sentry dmg rigs and 2x omni in the mids... so you gimp out your dps by over 20% you call. Both work, but one is much much better... try googling the forums this comes up at least once a week, and I am sick of posting my fits for this... I am getting to the point of asking why I am helping people make 45 mill isk an hour with an ishtar fit who are unwilling to even search the forums....

wrong on so many levels... vs gurista you need 1 mar and a kin hardener and an eanm II to solo sanctums and havens... The ishtar has massive kin/them t2 resist bonuses.

Shield Ishtar tanks more in EFT, but in practice, armor tank is supperior because of the lower signature, and ability to permarun AB and reps..
