Meh, they wrecked Command and Conquer and Sim City for me, but they have been getting better lately, like actually setting up local servers for BFBC2 console players in NZ/Au (BFBC1 had no local servers for us)

IMO it's Activision that is getting evil lately , especially with the stupidly high prices for MW2 and it's DLC. I was stupid enough to buy the game, but sold it well before the DLC was released.

C&C Generals Zero Hour i thought was very good. My fave RTS with Supreme Commander Forged Alliance.

Did you like the Sequel? Rolling Eyes

EA didn't work on the sequel for SupCom.

If you had said CNC4 though I would have agreed entirely.

Supreme Commander 2 is no true heir to Supreme Commander Forged Alliance. I Chris Taylor made a RTS for console gamers to be a cash cow. Lots of people play it online. So its popular. But still not better than SupcomFA.

Dragon Age was buggy as sin, but I forgive them for giving me Mass Effect 2.

I remain unsure about EA, sometimes they do the stupid and other times they seem to pull out genuinely good games.

There are these two people, they are joined at the hip but for most intents and purposes are two different people.

One of them is called Bioware and brings you awesome games that kick ass

The other is called Electronic Arts and they do their damnedest to screw up everything they touch.

Yeah those 2 are bioware, but they are 2 most recent EA games I've played. I think before that its Crysis Warhead and CoD4, both good games. However before that was Red Alert 3 which was bleh.

I love Bioware, they always have quality and longevity in their games. Played their games since Baldur's Gate. I'm a bit wary about EA being their publisher. I don't see it as a good thing.

EA? I don't think I've bought a single game they've published in the last 5-10 years.

3 worst game companies as of late

1 ubisoft, because they have started to embrace their crazy must always be connected to the internet DRM scheme.

2 activsion/blizzard, because they think gamers should pay for simple services by a monthly fee and would do away with owning games entirely if they could.

3 electronic arts, has recently been doing a little better at least in the DRM area, but i don't tend to buy many of their games since they ****ed me off a few years back.

3 best game companies

I don't list ccp because lets face it they have only 1 game at the moment and dust 514 not being on the PC makes me angry!

EA is pretty bad.

Blizzard is too these days.

The problem with Blizzard is that they're shaping their company around their products now, and they're up to their eyeballs in what can be best described as "legislation" - governing online experiences and balancing gameplay, and not so focused on just making FUN games anymore.

I always had tons of respect for Blizzard for being so supportive of the Mac community... simultaneous + compatible out-of-the-box support for both Mac and Win PC users in there game releases is pretty amazing (I'm all for anything or anyone that blurs the lines through the lame 1980s concept of "platforms"/the invisible walls that separate friends from playing together based on what hardware and things they have).
But they've done an awful lot to **** me off. Ranging from sweeping privacy and security violations to completely superficial annoyances - IE: associating me with ozzy osbourne (ew) or forcing me to look at objects in-game that have lame imbred kiddy internet lingo emblazoned on them (when I played WoW, I think I decided I was going to quit when they introduced in-game motorcycles that said "pwn" on the license plate. I can't support that ****)

Personally I think EA has improved vastly over the years compared to how they used to be like and they seem to care about new IP. That said, EA ought to listen more to their developers than management.

/captain obvious mode on
Bugs and bad games is something that runs rampant in the games industry and isn't limited to only EA.

I've never been able to play battlefield 2 since I bought it when it was released until I bought it again for cheap and steam, its always crashed when I try and play online, drives me mad, I can play with bots, and I can start a local server and play people on the lan but the second I try and connect to a lan host or an online game it ctd's instantly with no error, the exact same thing used to happen to me when I bought it when it originally came out all those years ago, very annoying

EA and ActiFail/Blizz are all pretty ****. EA are good at releasing alpha stage crap and ActiFail just want to sell everyone's data to facebook, who will then sell it on to others.

Th list of good companies has drastically shortened over the years as most just see us as cows to be milked but then the internal strife within these companies is testimony that not all agree with their backwards attitude. However, Bioware are good and I hope they continue to make quality products.

And remember, children, only fools who buy these useless games are punished Laughing

I kind of wondered if Will Wright went into retirement because of the public reaction to the release of Spore. Im pretty positive the whole DRM thing with spore was an EA decision and not Maxis.

EA take a holistic business approach to computer games. That is they think they are selling consumer products for mass appeal first. And don't so much think crafting great computer games is an art like other software houses.

Battlefield is so bugged because DICE doesn't have the best coders. They are trying to force a certain kind of coding on their own games and consistently failing at it anyway.

Strangely enough, Mirror's Edge was very well done. Although, that's not that strange, since the people who code the battlefield engines weren't needed for that one (UE3).

As for Bioware... They're selling out. They took MASSIVE shortcuts for ME2 and later Dragon Age dlc's. TOR being a 1:1 copy of WoW doesn't help either, and i fear for DA2 and ME3.

Short story: Not so much EA but Bioware and DICE selling out and being lazy, respectively. EA has improved by miles since the late 90's - The fact that they allowed Mirror's Edge to be released is proof enough. It's an unproven IP and they still allowed it to be released.

EA > Activision in any case.

If you want to complain about a bad publisher, complain about Ubisoft. They've been going down Activisions road in the last few years.

Valve are crapsticks lately. With all the buckets of money they have, they take forever to produce anything at all.

The made L4D2 instead of improving L4D1.

They constantly adding a mix of rubbish and good content to TF2.

The only good thing they have is steam, as massive cash cow for them. In the time Bioware have released 4 60 hour RPGs, Valve can only produce a dozen hours of content.

My biggest beef with EA came with Crysis.

I lost my internet one afternoon while playing EVE (thanks Comcast), and decided I'd play some Crysis to pass the time until my internet service was restored. Well it seems you have to have an internet connection to play even just the single player stuff with Crysis and Crysis Warhead.

At least with stuff from places like Direct2Drive etc you don't have to be online to play single player crap like you do with EA. Their copy protection scheme sux ass.

EA beats you up in the street and Activision steals your wallet. Thats the gaming industry.
