What is up with nanite repair paste?

I made a PI chain to make it and also purchased the BPO. However, as far as I can tell I lose like 75% of the value of my PI items by making the paste. How can this be right?

In case I am missing something:

Data Chip I can sell to buy order for 83k
Gel-Matrix Biopaste I can sell to buy order for 73k
4 Nanites I can sell to buy order for 18k

Nanite Repair Paste sells to buy order for 4200

Each run produces 10 nanite paste. So I can sell the materials to make it to buy orders for around 171k or I can make 10 nanite paste and sell it for 42k. How can this be right? Is there some skill other than Production Efficiency I need to save on material costs?

You have the evidence to conclude one of two things.

1) Those input components are over priced.
2) Nanite repair paste is under priced.

Work out which is true and profit.

You right that its a loss but so it just about everything to do just now with PI, the market at the moment is just mental and if was a person it would have been commited to a mental asylum already.

At the moment I am collect raw/refinded products and I will keep hold of them until the market settles. whats not helpping is that alot of the stuff on market for PI is there by people who are'nt doing the math very well or just tried out PI and dont care how much they make from it and of course the speculators will be hedging bets on what will happen.

I suggest setting up to make what you want keep hold of it until the market sorts its self out ( we will see either a large reduction in the raw price or and increase in the others)

I can tell you that since PI started I have'nt sold a single thing from it and won't until I am satisifed I can at make a profit.

PI is new, npc products are still seeded.
PI prices are all bollox at the moment.
People have stock piled on npc products.

Wait till the npc items are no longer seeded.
Wait till peoples stockpiles run out.
The market will then settle down and a true price will appear.

Untill then, sell what ever makes the most money

@OP See there's your problem, you're trying to dump to buy orders. Put up a sell order at a reasonable profit.

@TBM ummm, which npc goods are still seeded? Last time I looked all the PI related ones went poooooof.

I haven't looked in a few days.. or maybe weeks... but I thought that things like nanite were still about?

Either way, I'm looking at a large stack of it and I'm sure others are doing the same ;)

Yea its unprofitable, but if you produce it on four
moons rather than just one you are bound to come out ahead.

Pretty much every previously NPC seeded PI product sells for next to nothing compared to the "new" PI goods, but people who do not value their time or effort continue to make them...

...more profit for everyone else, I guess.

Honestly, moonitary interaction hasn't taken off for me either. It would be one thing if it produced the tech2 materials like moon mining but a freighter load of cheese just isn't in demand right now. I'm optimistic about planetary interaction though, it's just a matter of time till we have a stable market to judge from.

That's right. If it's unprofitable on one planet, four planets will not be four times as unprofitable.

Oh wait.

This is probably the best advice you will receive.

NPC goods were unseeded over a week ago, and now what we're seeing is the massive stocks people bought-up when NPC sell prices were low. Prices will eventually go-up once that inventory is bought-out, and the market's supply is solely being maintained by PI.

I guess nanite paste is underpriced since the cost for data chips and biopaste is going up instead of dropping. Oh well, at least I only bought 1 of the nanite paste BPOs.

Current price to manufacture nanite is around 24k each, while its selling for 5.9k. How long will it take for this to even out? I'm not that bummed since I can just sell biopaste and data chips, but I am wondering if this BPO will be useful anytime in the next 3 months or if I should just try to sell it even if I lose isk on it.

Dont worry, i did the same thing, but i found that if you sell the P1 compnonents and just dont run the P2 production chain to get the Nanites you end up profiting pretty well.

I'm just storing up P1 atm though so if it ever does become profitable i can profit.

Anywho, sorry to hear about your predicament, but theres no real solution. The amount of time it will take to equalize will be determined by how many people bought the seeded products and how quickly they will rise as supply runs out.

My bet is about 5 months maybe 6 as everyone comes back to reality and the billions of isk are made and spent. In the meantime though, keep producing the p1 components and sell them off.

Eventually everyone will be in the same boat that you are in.

There is a very simple message here:

Sell the Components
Buy Nanite Paste

When the market adjusts, you'll have a nice stockpile of Nanite Paste and lots of ISK (from all the components you sold). Then you sell the Nanite Paste and you'll have even more ISK.

I'm in the same boat.. I have a fully researched Nanite Paste BPO, and my full production line is almost ready.
( and will be manufacturing me enough to run my paste production in a pos for about 50% of the time )

I will probably be selling off my bits for it for a while until nanite paste runs out in the stockpiles.
Which will probably take quite some time.

I bought like 100k nanite repair paste when the NPC orders dropped to 1750 isk per unit, lots of people probably did the same thing, dont expect to profit from making nanite paste for like a year

Why is it that people insist on setting up a production line, and THEN seeing if what they are making is profitable?

Believe me when I say I don't care what approach people take. For me, however, it makes more sense to find out what is profitable first, then build it, instead of building something first, and then finding out if it is profitable.

But it sells on sell orders for 10k in Amarr, 8k in Jita, and with the supply drying up, who knows where it will end....du-du duuuh. Tune in next week for your Nanite repair paste pricecheck!

It amazes me how people are creating loss-making PI chains when it is trivially easy to work out whether they are profitable *before* you create the network...

As others have said, PI prices are currently all about stockpiles. Pick a high-demand material (like POS fuel) where stockpiles have been exhausted and you will get your profit.
