I think what frustrates most people is that a company like CCP, who obviously know a lot about networking and computers would suggest that a massive, physical server move is only going to take 6 hours and go smoothly. There are times I lose internet for longer just because someone accidentally unplugs the modem at home, and when it all gets hooked up again, it just won't work till the next day. Computers and electronics can be fickle and moody. One wrong line of code can mean a serious crash with potential data loss. One bump on the move and some hardware can get jumbled and need maintenance.

On a side note, while the idea of EVEGATE and having as many services as possible available outside of the game is great, it seems like pretty poor planning to have your main websites (including CCPGAMES.com for those of you that checked yesterday) down most of the day just because it's all so integrated that one cannot be running without the other.

When all is said and done, though, CCP does deliver a better product and better services than any other MMO I've payed to play.

And for all you people who can only say "Blah blah blah get out and see th world" - TROLLS!

you would think......if the game was being moved to a new server, and not the servers being moved.....all the work could have been done prior to shutting down the old servers...so the transitition would have been alot easier

What the **** is with all this recompensation **** I keep hearing? It's like listening to small naive children begging and yelling for candy.

Think about what you're paying for, really think about it. You're paying for a service that CCP provides, in the form of a game yes, but what you're really paying, is CCP employees paychecks, to keep this **** running, and improve upon that service.

Now, CCP is in the middle of bettering that service, in the form of upgrading the physical power of the server (get rid of lag, better staiblity, whatnot), and they're probably working their asses of right now, drenched in sweat, clutching their knuckles and running test after test to ensure this works properly and get rid of all the problems.

So, are you satisfied thinking that someone is working their ass of, to earn the money you pay him? I know I am. They're probably working harder than some of you have ever tried.

Sorry if I come across as an arogant prick, but all this whining really annoys me.

You come across as BOTH an arogant prick AND an ignorant prick. And one that does not understand how business work at that.

It's not that we care about getting a couple cents so we can go buy a piece of gum! Let me break it down for you:

If it COSTS money each time they screw up, they will INVEST money(and work hours) in ENSURING that this won't happen again! By for example letting the server techs do a rehersall run with a smaller replica of the system and exploring close to all possible scenarios that can go wrong and make sure they have the proper people / components on stand-by and within reach incase of.

UTC and GMT are the same - almost. GMT has leap seconds while UTC does not (the difference between them is always < 1 second), so the latter is used often over GMT for simplicities sake.

Oh, and OT: In the past CCP did compensate for massive downtimes, i.e. they added 1 day free game time to peoples accounts.

Of all the software and hardware on all the known planets in this galaxy, TQ is the stuff we look forward to. Nowhere else can so many come together every day, week after week, month after month, doing the things we do.

"Hey Bob, why is this part really hot?" queried CCP Workman 1.
"Pour some more Vodka on it to cool it down" CCP Workman 2 replies.

"What do I do now? It's on fire!"
"Don't worry it's only the part that remembers how much subscription time each account has."

+1

Although, I suspect the way things went was:

Engineer: Don't expect anything to work for at least a day. Worst case we could be down for a week. Tell players the servers are going down and will be up when they're ready.
Marketing: Uhm, what is the fastest the servers could come up if all went right?
Engineer: Say 6-8hrs
Marketing: I'll post 6hrs then!

EULA 12.
[...]
# While CCP attempts to have the System available at most times, CCP does not guarantee that the System will always be available, or that the System will not become unavailable during Game play. The System may become unavailable for a number of reasons, including without limitation during the performance of maintenance to the System, for the implementation of new software, for emergency situations and due to equipment or telecommunications failures.

You all agreed to this when you created your account. Didn't read it? Your own fault. Now stop complaining about DT, would you? ;)

EDIT: This also means you cannot claim any reimbursement for that downtime! If we get one, it's only because of CCP's goodwill, and I wouldn't give us one after reading all this whining... Rolling Eyes

QFT. Standard stuff for a EULA, really, and rightly so.

Not that I don't think this migration hasn't been farked up (obviously!!!!) - primarily through poor planning and secondarily in announcement of it (I don't believe for one moment they took Armageddon (NOT THE BS) into account when they posted their estimated time, and they should have at least partly). 6 hours was overly hopeful and irresponsible to quote. But there is no real liability for that - CCP only looks bad. Frankly, had they said dt would be a day or so, there would have been complaining ... but it would be understood and everyone would have figured themselves out accordingly.

If by grace CCP do something in return in acknowledgment of irresponsibility and some of the inconveniences generated, I will be thankful ... but they don't owe it and I don't expect it. Simply more time to enjoy the World Cup, and just keep looking for updates on TQ being up.

So, I understand you prefer a crappy game that works 24/7 than a good game that may be off sometimes to improve.
I personally prefer that they invest my money in getting eve beter, rather than a lot of redundant systems which would only be useful a few days a year...

thats not from the eve servers (api is down atm). if evemon doesnt see the api working or you as being offline, it just continues counting down time left and calculates remaining time based on the last sync
