Ok, let me put it this way...

Once, a long, long time ago, there was this game with pretty fun open PvP -- sorta like EVE has. The devs there decided to change that game and give it a PvE version where people couldn't be ganked. The vocal few loved this change, but it robbed the game of its essence and it would soon just fall into obscurity.

Perhaps you're talking about that old legendary game which once gave people who didn't want to be involved in PvP their own protected world? And like 90% of the players moved there, because most didn't want forced PvP upon them, especially not in the harsh environment of "lose absolutely everything you are wearing and carrying".

So what happened to original server? Few Big Bad PvPers actually had to fight other few Big Bad PVPers who knew what they were doing and could fight back, instead of ganking some poor miner or new player just venturing out into the world, so they all ragequitted soon after.

Point of this epic fairytale: if most people wanted PvP, they would have stayed in the PvP half of the world, so no mater what you want to pretend most people were happy with the change. Whining carebear gankers weren't, though.

And then people discovered that PVE isn't all it's cracked up to be, and they quit in droves.

See, here's the paradox. Nonconsentual PVP adds depth to a game that honestly would be pretty thin without it. People say they hate PVP, but when they have nothing to struggle against, funnily enough they get disillusioned and leave.

EVE is driven by PVP. If you can't stand that, you're playing the wrong game. That's all there is to it.

No. PvP world was soon completely empty because Big Bad PvPers cannot exist without PvE folks /aka easy targets. On the other side, PvE world was decently populated for some time until people started to migrate to other PvE focused games which were also plain better. So this legendary game eventually lost all players because of other games coming out, not because of T.

Congratulation! You miss the entire vision of eve-online!

There will never be a second server, and there will never be arbitrary rules locking people into one play style.

IMO Concord is pretty damn powerful as is. As far as high-sec space goes, we have more than enough, it's 0.0 that needs an expansion.

Sure you wont find pvp gankers on the new server but alot of players who tried the game and ran screaming because of its open pvp style may decide to come back for the pve server. I personally know of quite a few people who ran screaming from eve because its open pvp rules.
The new server should continue to have wars if both sides are willing to participate and not be forced into a war because someone wanted to kill some guys. But the new server should not allow pvp in any zone. The profit from new and returning players who don't like pvp would cover the cost and help support eve. This would only improve the income of ccp and in the end make the game better for all of us.

Err no. You really are missing the point of EVE aren't you?

Well when you make your very own 300k subscriber internet spaceship game you can put all the pve only servers you want in it. CCP have stated numerous times that nonconsensual pvp is a part of eve they are not interested in removing, no matter how much idiots like you whine about it.

Its funny, its almost like they decided to stick to their own vision of what EVE should be and ignore everyone who complained about it.....oh wait.Wink

Actually the population of that game pretty much steadily declined if you ignore the blip right at the release of the pve only facet, and that was mainly due to the new land for housing.

I think you are right that the players voted with their actions by moving. But I think that they were wrong and just didn't know it. the constant fear of some one/group of people coming to kill you adds a spice to the game that is irreplaceable. Now I think the way eve implements this is better b/c hi-sec space provides a relatively pvp free zone while not eliminating it entirely. And low-sec is wide open pvp.

We can't? Why not? You're aware that many "Big bad PvPers" have industrial alts, right?

Personally, I'd be all in favour of CCP opening a PvE server, as long as they charged a transfer fee. They could use those old AMD nodes they removed from TQ recently (PvE isn't all that node intensive) 1 PLEX per transfer seems about right.

That way, they could sell 2 extra PLEX for every fool like you, and then we wouldn't have to listen to you complain any more.

On the one hand. I would totally go for a new server where everyone starts fresh.

On the other hand. PvE only? I like PvE as much as the next guy but this game would be incredibly dull without other players and PvP.

Eve is the best in its kind cause its the good balance pvp/pve. If they make an pve server I need instances to, to get my epic spaceship........

This thread (looking at the majority of replies) demonstrates quite nicely that EVE's worst problem is its players. Cool

That said, a PVE-only server probably isn't the way to go. The game does deperately need greatly improved and expanded PVE gameplay, however.

EVE economy is working great because of that force pvp aspect ... remove that and you will end up with the same kind of economy as all the other mmo's .... pay a fortune to have something and you basically won't have to work cause everybody have everything and the game will die !

PVP is a must in EVE and if it's removed ... I will leave !

What opening a pve server is about is more money for ccp. More players means more improvements for the game quicker. I have been waiting for some promised improvements for years now like walking around in docks.
This would improve eve for all of us since the players who won't play the game because of the possibility of getting ganked turned them off of the game and allows them the same game with less risks.
I for one wouldn't be interested in going to the new server because i spent so much time building up my characters.
Introducing a new server so eve gets more players is what this idea is about. More players = more income for the company.

Money talks and bull**** walks

Opening a PVE server would mean that they have to design a whole lot of new pve focused content since without the current pvp system the pve would be pretty much pointless. This would take time and money to develope and I think TQ would end up taking the loss getting less attention.
So we end up with two servers that won't get the attention needed and likely a lower (compared to current TQ) player base on both of them. One that sucks cause it's not enough content to justify a purified PVE server and another that is boring cause there will be the same old stuff and not enough players around.
Boring game with few players => players leave => dead game = no money
