Lot of folks depend on the chatlogs to check out history.
However, how do you know the chat log (for example a corp or private) isn't forged?

Somebody claims to have a private chat log with me, but I deny that and nor do I have that chat log on my computer.
The chat log that doesn't exist according to me, contains only 2 sentences.
One person has it, he claims, I don't.

So how reliable are chatlogs? How can the authenticity verified? They can be easely forged as far as I konw.

I can make one up now using notepad, it's that difficult. Ergo, their worth is near nothing, but it's still interesting reading.

Those dumped by the game on your HDD, extremely reliable Laughing
Those you got from other people... completely unreliable.

pretty much. You can fake killmails too.

Welcome to EVE, where social engineering is both effective and hilarious. To counteract this I recommend associating with people who are smart enough to realize that stuff can be faked.

Chat logs are the Eve equivalent of a verbal contract.

It's your word against theirs. Simply deny it, call it a fake and move on. There's not much you can do to convince people otherwise. Smart people know that things can be faked and make their own decisions.

If you're concerned about a particular chat, try to get a third party to listen in and make a few comments. Then get the real conversation posted by the third party. But then again, third parties can be fakes too, so it's all down to what you want to believe.
