Its pretty cool, though I feel/know I'm wasteing millions and millions of isk on buildings, transfers, set ups etc. My ISK bank has so much RED in it , from IP costs, its ridiculous, anyway---

So I extract this then-- that, put them together to create the next tier item, all the while going back and forth in a mind numbing/forgeting what I did here and there, on which planet and so forth- and boom hours and hours and days later. I made some stuff, and go to seel it for 12,000 Rolling EyesEmbarassedEvil or Very Mad

HUH! Oh yeah I remember the tutorial said, (the trick is finding out what to sell on the market)!

Well, Ill admit I stink at IP, I understand the bases but???????????????????????????

Guess Ill go back to other EVE activeites.ugh

lol at selling things, many items are STILL being sold by NPCs that you make in PI... also. you can still buy control towers and stuff so not many people are making them

I'm amazed(not really =p) that people still don't realize that pi was never intended to make you a zillionare right after launch. It's going to take months for the npc stocks to dissapear which is exactly what ccp planned to be done so all the players who rely on said stocks won't get reamed by the the first producers on the block or go without if there isn't enough players setting up shop. Now if six months from now pi is still unprofitable then you can start yelling bloody murder.

First rule of thumb.,,

if ccp says, "...and players will be sole producers..." then the first thing you do is buy a **** ton of whatever it is to last ages.

Nothing is more comical than watching the markets explode/tank damn near unpredictably when we players run it. The only constant you will have pricing wise is stockpiling ahead of time. Loss of isk a possibility? Sure. Peace of mind? Definately. I need goods for production and pos maintenance.

Secondly, if you invest heavily into PI it appears it will bring a nice income. This holds true for all investments.

I.e. If you invest 100 billion in tech 2 bpo's you might make 5 billion a month. Same idea with pi I guess.

Actually from what i've seen so far the initial investment is mainly time, if you use the best CC's and have all the skills its probably only set you back 50mil or so! The end of the line P3 and P4 items should make that investment worth it in the long run.

But as many others have pointed out there needs to be a market demand to make it worth it so its more of a wait and see game, although starting to put items up for sale on the market is the first step (don't just fill other peoples buy orders -.-).

Only difference is: you can sell that BPO and get your initial investment back as soon as you run out of materials/get bored with it.

I used to think mining was boring, but Pi... Ok, i want to start my extractors, click each one indivudually, wait for it to scan, more clicks. Then only 4 more planets, every 4 days at maximum in order to earn less in a month then a goddamn courier mission that i can autopilot.

Is it me or is PI the easiest thing to macro, and its not like you will notice like with a hulk sitting in a belt 23/7.

I dont think we got the same definition of alot of isk. I guess in your case the planet setup cost would amount to epic iskies!

I can do 1 or 2 level 4 missions and make mroe isk than a PI person making robotics can in a month.

He's refering to the fact you can double your money by buying parts for robotics, manufacturing them then selling to NPC orders.

Anyway as said it will take a month or two to settle in, although outside Robotics there is still a few items which make decent semi-passive income even now.

Wow dude I think you are doing it wrong. My first experience with PI I got a basic CC had 2 extractors and just linked them to my CC, when I checked on it again it was 500m3 so I sold all the raw material for 100k.

Linking extractors to storage units then to processors then to a space port help to so your overflow doesn't go to waste.

I don't think PI will give me a billion isk n hr if I max it out, but it is nice that I can make isk when I go to bed / work / when I set up the 23hr thing. I don't see it as a bad thing at the moment, but just my opinion.

Edit : also you can do it while you play and it makes isk 24/7 wtf!!! even if it isn't epic amounts it is still rockin

I agree and Im also having fun too which is a nice surprise, I was not impressed when I tried it on the test server. I can see so much potential.

As an aside (sorry to put my nose in) but you can use the space port for storage too, often eliminating the need for other storage. So you go..Extractor (or cluster of them linked together with one link leading to the spaceport) to spaceport to processor and back to spaceport. You can stick the processor in the link from the extractor(s) to cut down on link use as well.

grand total of 150 minutes per month. In other words 2 and half hours. Onthat time I can run 7 level 4 missions..

I have no idea how much you get running a mission as I don't do them.

I am making 10 million (in profit) a day from 3 planets with standard command centers. If the NPC buy and sell orders are still up in 30 days I will have made 300 million isk with my puny PI skills. I can't even imagine how much the PI players with good skills are making. I'm sure they can make at least a billion.

Can you make 300 million running missions for 2 and half hours? A billion?

I really don't know how much you can make running missions to be honest.

Like some people noted, the prices are quite funky in the beginning. Some stuff isn't just bought yet, since there's absolutely no demand for it. Some people don't have the concept of what things are worth (or how much material is taken each refining step), so you'll see things like basic materials selling for a whole lot than the link in the chain. And of course, with most NPC orders still intact, if there's a chain where there's both NPCs selling the components and buying the next-tier product, if the price difference isn't balanced for PI it will either make it unprofitable to make the part (if the refined product is cheaper than the parts) or make the process wildly profitable if done in a massive scale (think about 20 factories per planet producing robotics).

With a single character, one or two planets with basic command centers and bad placing for extractors, you are not going to get back your investment any time soon. By exploiting (in the sense of "exploiting mineral resources") the NPC market can give huge resources now, and possibly even some infrastructure for the future if you think where you set your factories (you'll likely have 90% of your factories torn down and replaced with other stuff when the system starts to Work As Intended(tm)). Besides of that, the only chance for fast money is people who don't understand the system and do stuff such as buying Industrial Fabrics for 5k ISK a pop. (Yes, the base resource is rare-ish, but still, it's a first-tier product which can be produced by hundreds of units a day per planet even in poor planets with basic command centers.)

Also, if you have supply problems, the protip is to have lots of extractors, connect them to a storage hub (launchpad or even the CC will do, the only reason this is needed is to avoid losing the overflow if your extractors manage to produce more than the factories can chew). The storage feeds the basic industry (so if there's overflow when all the extract cycles complete at once and then again take some time, the factory will not drop the overflow but in fact has even some reserves to work on while the extractors do their thing). Repeat this for the next stage, check that you have enough basics that the produced resource over time matches the consumed resources over time of the advanced factories, with a buffer (again, the launch pad work - or even the CC for smaller operations).

Also, when using storages as a buffer: Remember, you cannot move stuff from storage to storage when there's a factory active in the planet. So if you extract or produce something that you can't refine on the planet, move it to the CC or the launch pad, not to a storage. The same thing applies if you have surplus and plan to sell your surplus. Though of course only in the case when you can run your factories 24/7.

The market will start to adjust to a steady state some time after the NPC buy orders are removed, with the exception of those cases where stockpiled resources may be used. Before that, there's profit in NPC buys and possibly some in those T2 components where the NPCs aren't selling very cheap.

However if CCP removes the NPC orders tomorrow you will have a useless planetary structure that cost you more than you are gaining. Sure you can gamble on it lasting for a few weeks or even month. But I'ts just gambling and has nothing to do with the real thing.
BTW: If you liked gambling you just missed a chance to make billions within a few days (and I'm not talking about PI).

Sure, but while the NPC buy/sell orders are up things are good. I've already paid for my factories and plan on using them when the NPC orders go down. I'm sure there will still be a need for robotics and other mid range items, just won't be as profitable as it is now.

I was just responding to the OP, that yes he can make money on PI at the moment.
