Ok ive received a few mails today so its faster to just do a fast write up. Ill just lay some things out straight away:

1. This is NOT my app, but merely the best ive found for this task
2. This is directed at Android people, but im sure iPoop users (And the expensive new Ipoop Tablet) can use the exact same mechanism to do this also
3. I know, a lot of people in the community must of done this already, so why a write up? Because apparently nobody has bothered to share it yet, hence the mails ive gotten in the last few days.
4. This is really quite simple, the ONLY complexity (which we will NOT delve into) is the performance tweaking neccessary to get "really good" gameplay capabilities.
5. Who would use or need this? Market traders, who want to tweak orders live in game anywhere they have 3g signal, CEO's to stay always online and in touch, long distance high sec haulers moving ore at work, and everyone who just wants to screw around at work. YARRRR!!
6. If you pvp on your phone, and get podded..... LOL

Simple and straight up ive been using and playing with an app called PhoneMYPC (app store, all that jazz). As of yet its probably the fastest and most stable remote desktop client available for android so far, but im really hopping for more competition on this front. See, just download, install and viola....you're playing EvE on your phone! This is NOT a true VNC client, ive tried that route extensively and its literally unplayable above about 2fps. This (and most other current RDC apps) in a simplified explanation record your desktop as a mpg movie, stream that to you far faster, and then gimmick in mouse and keyboard controls. The advantage of this app is full process control, window control, and basically a really "complete" seamless experience.

Now the fun part is going to be playability! Now as for myself, ive only gotten 100% playability on devices that 1. can be flashed and overclocked and 2. have a physical keyboard. There ARE touch only controls but I personally have not tested them extensively, so no comment.

The physical keyboard does matter because it really simplifies typing (market orders) and keyboard shortcutting commands at will. If anybody wants to try this please let me know how it turns out, or their experiments with other methods/apps/connection variants this is an ongoing fun project of mine, basically optimizing my phone as a PC away from the PC for as much and complete remote MMO experiences as it can manage.

For performance, i STRONGLY, and i cannot stress this enough, load a custom ROM and clock your processor up. This has many MANY side benefits besides this project but in general you'll have a highly streamlined optimized OS to work off of, which you may remember from back in the tinyXP and whatnot days can help a good bit when dealing with the phones already limited resources. I will NOT go into rooting, or help you do it. Your on your own! There's more than enough resources out there to make it a breeze now so no worrys.

As for myself:
Motorola DROID
Bugless Beast v0.21 ROM (This the based upon the newest 2.2 FROYO build, DAMN its fast!)
Bekit Standard Voltage 1.3GHz Kernel (Thats my overclock)
Kingston Class 10 SD card 16Gb (This helps in several small ways, especially with a partitioned card and apps to SD, as well as temp file)

Any phone around these specs will absolutely run EvE well enough. Im looking forward to even newer models to try it on (Like an eve 4g, but ill wait till it can be clocked to 1.5ghz+)

On average I can manage 20+ fps or so in station or space. I tossed together 2 fast movies, now these were recorded using my wife's eris so the quality isn't GREAT, but the frame rate is smoother than you see here but conversion, phone recording delay and youtube compression....yea.

Outside a station, cloaking uncloaking, right clicking menus, etc

Sitting in station, chat, zooming around, etc

These are just basic functionality videos but you get the point, i can make more later of market stuff, or effects or whatnot if enough people ask for it.

This is also run off Wi-Fi, but it still works via 3g but at a admittedly lower FPS due to bandwidth. However for chat, or really most market and contract functions its still perfectly usable. Again, if you PvP using your phone...please let me know so i can watch YARRRR!! Use common sense and youll be fine.

I really see this as benefiting the market PvP players and the hardcore industrial types (mining, industry and all that).

Besides that, take it as you will, use it as you like, call me a noob or someone "Doing a useless thing on a useless expensive phone" as i was called earlier, im always open to suggestions and input from others who are also doing the same thing daily.

http://www.rdmplus.com/

You can do this on a blackberry too (or those that can't get the MYPC app to work). Problem is, the frame rate is like 1-2 frames per second (depending on your connection) - so its definitely not sustainable for any time-sensitive play, but I played with mail and and market from my blackberry bold.

Protip - You need to set Eve to run in windowed mode, changing resolutions while streaming freaks the video capture out...

1. You put nokia 3210 on the floor.
2. You put your running shoes on your feet.
3. You put one foot ahead of the other at increasing velocity over nokia 3210.
4. ???
5. Profit!

Anybody who uses a similar approach on other phone OSes is welcome to chime in, i KNOW there are people running this in a like manner on the Iphone at least.

When looking for an app (or developing one....) remember the key here is NOT a tru VNC client. Those are incapable of the speeds and smoothness seen here. What this in essence does is convert the image on your main PC into a VIDEO, that video is played, over the air/phone network remotely to you, but has built in real-time interaction controls. Full mouse, keyboard, and window control. Also process control helps alot.

VNC's keep getting name dropped on my youtube videos or elsewhere on the forums, but what were looking at here is a totally different and more efficient approach to it, making this method of game playing actually viable and usable, with decent FPS.

or it could be that they never even considered this and will put something in the developement feature road plan or something. I don't foresee a cool company like CCP denying something that makes eve look more enjoyable for those traveling folks. if anything nonlabor prolly will make them money off this idea, if they decide to market it.

Jumimouse is a good program to do this on iPhone. Remote desktop works well om iPad, but takes a little setup. No pvp on either, but you can mine, market, and handle any task that isn't reflex based.

Buy a proper smartphone, can't believe apple bring out new iPhone models everytime they realise how fail the previous one was.

Your basically paying 500 for minor hardware tweaks and a less buggy OS, a simple free software update would be fine but noooo..... there to busy ripping everyone off.

Get a HTC Evo or desire, nexus one is good as well.

Or if you still feel like being a douche.. buy a ipad so you can show people how smart you are.

It works fine for the iPhone 3GS-hit FYI

using a flash cart with some homebrew av played eve on a NIntendo DS Very Happy

You can get DS2WIN and its simply just a remote access from DS to use your PC, if u have eve in windowed mode an dload up on screen keyboard to always be ontop you can chat quite effectvly. undocking into space pretty much killed its ass tho but with a bit of playing around u could use your DS in a wifi spot to change skills when ur out and about

Using a stock htc evo and some crappy 3g access, this app works somewhat well if all youre doing is changing skills or market orders or any non-reflex sensitive action.

over wifi with the ports forwarded to my ip address, this baby zooms along (still not enough to pvp, but its really close)

im sure if i rooted my evo and overclocked it it would run faster, however the big thing that seems to limit me is the 3g speed. 80% of the time i either get a full black screen, or i only get to see what the phone shows at first before i zoom out. I dont get results as fluidly as honest nonlabor, however im sure he was on wifi and his mod helped out lol

any tips or tricks would be greatly appreciated

my tip: under your mobile network settings, make sure the option to always keep your data connection active is selected. it may drain battery, however every single time i tried to connect to my pc with that option off i only got the picture of the initial zoomed in portion of my screen and it would never update after that. turning that option on makes it update (atleast in my experiences).

Do you not have 4g access in your area yet? Id love it if you could run some real game tests for us as I don't have a 4g phone myself just yet. Id be willing to bet the bottleneck we experience via 3g will be far less noticeable on a good 4g connection but I do know most city's don't have it yet, and may not for quite awhile.

my area actually does have 4g (Dallas), however its very spotty at best, and i am never close enough to downtown to pick it up (funnily enough i picked it up for like 5 seconds going to work maybe 20 minutes from downtown).

The next time i am in downtown ill fire up the ole 4g radio and give it a whirl.

btw, do you know how to make it so i can rotate the screen on a touch screen only phone? i tried making one of the volume buttons the click button and pushed that down and dragged my finger across the screen but all that usually does is make the ship start zooming to some random location :( any help would be awesome

I'll be getting the Droid X on the 15th, so I give this a shot. I know it doesn't have a physical keyboard, but it still may be more or less playable.

In the meantime, do you have a suggestion for a non-VNC based remote desktop client for Windows? I almost always have my netbook with me, but it doesn't have the kick to play eve, even on the lowest of settings. I have tried remote desktop clients like teamviewer, but there are some serious performance issues there as well.

Looks cool, I'll give it a whirl when I get home. As to CCP possibly trying to kill this, if its anything like a VNC connection then the actual functionality is at the OS level, and your Eve client shouldn't be able to screw with it. (as I understand it, at any rate.)

Well it worked on my HTC Desire - even over internet. I couldn't swing my spaceship in the station, but that is okay. Also the virtual keyboard made it quite hard to play Very Happy

But then I took a closer look on the application and on the security of this app and I registered my phones software with totally different, yet common username and password and found myself on a russian pc :(

I have uninstalled it now
