Last night, while starting the first song of thier set, the metal band Damageplan was attacked by a gunman onstage. Former Pantera guitarist Dimebag Darrell was shot 5 times and pronounced dead on scene. Two others confirmed dead, including the shooter (cop got him). Eyewitness reports say he began shooting into the crowd......

Sounds like someone had a grudge against the guitarist - he was shot 6 times.

Guns dont kill people , people kill people Sad
Really sad when this sort of thing happens, more sad is that the shooter managed to get in there with a gun in the first place, just goes to show how good the policeforce is as protection.

Quote:
"The whole time I thought it was part of the show. I had blood on me I was so close. I'm still freakin' out here...

"The cops showed up and then people started sayin' that DBD was killed...

"I was up close to the stage on the side where Dimebag was playing," wrote one fan on the band's website. "Then I saw the guy jump out of the crowd onto the stage. He was yelling something about how 'You broke up Pantera, you ruined my life. What about Phil?' " - referring to Phil Anselmo, the Pantera singer who did not join Damageplan. " 'He needs ****** money.'

"Then I saw the gun and he shot DBD (Dimebag) right in the head. When DBD went down he kept shooting. Then he turned around for (other band members) Bob Zilla, then Vinnie.
There's some blood on my ticket stub, so I'm going to sell it on eBay or keep it or something. I know DBD is in heaven (or ripping some mad riffs in hell)."

The other dead have not been named.

Other notices on the website - which noted that objects were already for sale on eBay - were not so heartfelt. "Personally, I want a refund," wrote one. Someone else, under the name h8breedsh8, wrote: "Hate to say it, but when your lyrics and lifestyle glorify hate and death and misery endlessly, as every band that plays this club does, this type of #### is inevitable. Plenty of suicides were blamed on Black Sabbath and Blue Oyster Cult back in the '70s. Only diff is that now the psychos take a bunch of people with them!"

There are some sick puppies out there! Still peeps in EVE were selling bits of Jove guy on ebay so not much diff there! :P

I myself am a fan of Pantera/Damageplan, and I for one, have taken this very seriouslyCrying or Very sad

In honor of Dimebag Darrell (my idol), heres a little history lesson for anyone who doesnt know who he is and what his contributions to metal were:

1990: Cowboys from Hell released, single handingly reinventing metal, bringing down the reign of glamour rock, and sending the 90's into a metal era.

1992: Vulgar Display of Power is released.

1993: Pantera performs at the Kings of Metal concert in Moscow in front of thousands of fans, establishing their reign over metal.

1994: Far Beyond Driven is released.

1996: The Great Southern Trendkill is released.

1997: Official Live: 101 Proof is released.

2000: Reinventing the Steel is released.

2000: Pantera performs on the world famous Ozzfest tour, ending their reign of power of almost a decade.

Pantera broke up after this album due to conflicts with their former lead singer Phil Anselmo dedicating his time to other side projects. Dimebag and Vinnie Paul dont take this sitting down, they form Damageplan with former Halford guitarist Pat Lachman taking over lead singer duties and Bobzilla taking over on bass.

Although not as good as Pantera in my eyes, Damageplan was a great band. This death has stopped production of their new album. I for one am torn apart by this sad news. Although Dimebag isnt with us anymore on earth, he is up in heaven, and Im sure he is downing Jack Daniels and shredding on guitar. Im sure Im not alone in saying that we have lost one of metal's greatest members. Dimebag, I salute you!!!

The band was playing at a club, which aren't as well policed as big concert venues.

I've heard now that in addition to Dimebag and the shooter, a bodyguard, a roadie, and another fan were killed, with several more injured. I'm honestly still in shock.

Going by the CBS news write-up, there were no police on duty at the show. A patrolman who was nearby the scene responded, entered the club from the backdoor, approached the suspect who was grappling with someone else, and shot the suspect, fatally injuring him.

From another longtime guitarist and Dimebag fan, RIP Dime.Crying or Very sad

A very sad day indeed.Mad A shame when someone is gunned down in their prime. If I'm not mistaken this same day many years ago is when John Lennon was assasinated. People need to understand whether you liked their music or not, he was a human being.

RIP Dimebag!

Not only gunned down in his prime, but while he was doing something he enjoyed, and something that made other people happy.

I've heard something about he was ****ed because Dime and Vinnie Paul (Dime's half-brother and former drummer with Pantera) left Pantera. I don't know if that is the reason, but it it's true I can't think of a more stupid reason to take a life.Mad

It's sad that a sick little worthless piece of **** can go and buy a gun and just shoot down people like that. As for the guy that said guns dont kill, people do... well if that sad little ******* couldn't get a gun, I doubt that he would muster enough courage and try to attack with a knife.

Gun is the weapon for chicken-**** gutless cowards, if he was a man and felt that he had an issue (however insane that was) he'd start a fight at a bar.

So Sad.

My band was at a bar in Chicago wednesday night waiting to go on and some chicks came up to me and took off my jacket so they could admire my ancient Pantera shirt that is about 10 years old. It was a CFH original and I had been wearing it for 3 days cuz I'm a smelly bastich. We then got in a long discussion about Pantera and at the exact time this conversation was taking place Dimebag & misc. were getting shot up 600 miles away. That is so, so screwed up.

As a musician I am suppossed to have all sorts of appreciation for music and a variety of musicians but alas I don't. There is very little musical talent in this current day and age I appreciate and 1 by 1 it's all heading 6 feet under.

Very sad this situation and I wonder how many more people the military are going to deam 'disfunctional' and release back into our society after they've recieved their murder training. The list gets longer and longer every year.

When I go to the store to buy candy they do not make me display to them my Candy ID which is tied to the National Candy Database which displays my current status of whether or not I am allowed to buy candy or not.

After that process is over, they do not make me wait 3 full days to recieve my candy.

They do not limit me to buying 1 piece of candy per month.

They do not keep a database which shows what candy I own, when I bought it, and every other relevant candy information.

That piece of **** was a disfunctional individual who the government trained to be a death dealer and then decided he was crazy so instead of putting his ass in a gigantic slingshot and flinging him to the deep ocean, they put him on the streets and cross their fingers hoping he doesn't do anything 'funny'.

Guns are not easy to obtain and even if they were, good. You don't ban cars to keep drunk drivers disarmed. You don't ban swimming pools to prevent drownings.

You have to be 18 to buy elmers glue at Walmart because of simpletons like that wanna take the easy route quick fix.

Just thought I take back what I said about Darrells brother. The news channel that reported it was wrong. Got word that Vinni was alive and well. Seems a lot of confusion is going on about what the press should be reporting. Im just glad it wasn't both brothers who were killed. Also wanted to point out the fact that the day of the shooting was the same as "John Lennon's" shooting also. So that seems to be the motive behind this crazed fan. He believed Pantera was stealing his lyrics or some **** as well. So ****ing sad ....

Agreed, although i'm not 16 and mad at my dad anymore, i still put 'Vulgar Display of Power' on from time to time and jump up and down like a sad old man to 'Walk' and 'This Love', trying to remember my days of long hair and under-cuts in 1992.
