Am I supposed to manually download the patch and update that way? Isn't there an automatic downloader/installer when I attempt to log on with an older version?

Thanks for your answers. I just assumed that it was already out since it said "Incompatible Version" when I attempted to log in :)

Guess what else it says when you try to login:

Quote:
EVE Online: Tyrannis will be deployed during an extended downtime on Wednesday, May 26, 2010 beginning at 02:00 UTC.

More information can be found here

And then if you click the "here" link...

Quote:
EVE Online: Tyrannis will be deployed on Wednesday, May 26. Deployment will start at 02:00 UTC and is expected to be completed at 18:00 UTC. The website, forums and account management will be temporarily unavailable but are expected to be back online at 09:00 UTC.

Welcome to MMO patch days, go find an alternate alternate-reality for the day and let the dust clear.

The patch will be available when Tyrannis is fully deployed.

I would advise all players to wait until we announce that the patch is final and ready to be installed. In the past players have had issues with having to reinstall a full client by using an invalid patch.

Sorry, possibly stupid question that may have already been asked and answered elsewhere; my google-fu isn't as strong as it might be:

I know that the servers are offline to get the serverside patch. That's cool; I understand this. I'm not asking why I can't login. Please don't pull the usual CCP stunt and answer a question I didn't ask.

Question begins thusly: Is there some reason why I cannot download and install the client side patch and be ready to roll the instant the server has finished patching?

Before you pull:

You cannot seriously expect us to believe that you'd roll out a serverside patch while you have any reservations whatsoever about the client patch.

If you are and do, can I suggest professional management help? They can (at criminal hourly rates) give you a nice chart showing what's likely to happen to your revenue base when those (otherwise damned fine) CCP bugfixing workhorses "soonTM" and "when it's doneTM" are applied to the ability of every fee-paying client you've got to log in? Frankly, no-ones bugfixing form to date has been so good that I'd bet on bugs still present in the client at 0200 being fixed before 1800 the same day.

Looking forward to seeing the stable, finished Tyrannis client patch available soon enough that people not on a T3 link can get it installed before the serverside patch is finished.

The thing I don't understand is this:

Pretend for a moment you are CCP. Wouldn't you have a back up server to implement the new expansion. Then shut down the current server and replace it with the new expansion server. Thus removing this long delay for the new expansion. While the expansion server is up the old server would be retrofitted with the new expansion and placed back in on next server shutdown/reboot.

Wouldn't that be more logical?

It would… if you had the resources to build that "backup server", and considering the scale of TQ, that's a pretty big honking "if".

How would you justify having a omfgawexomemegasupercluster sitting and gathering dust 98% of the time, just to let a rather small selection of people gather pixels for a few more hours a year?

Well, yes it would, unfortunately Tranquility is quite a big server. There are scale problems here. And there's no way Singularity could take it over; whenever I'm on Singularity I have the feeling it'll crash if I press my module buttons too hard.

Jesus christ, chill the **** out. This is how it always happens on patch day.

They patch the server to make sure it's working and then release the patch.

You wouldn't want to release a patch before testing is done and not have it work and have everyone roll back their clients would you?

Believe it or not, YOU CAN SURVIVE WITHOUT FOR 12+ HOURS.

like last time CCP is unable to supply a proper patch and again an incompatible version why cant you leave as it is cause you are unable to even supply a Live server in a normal state do you really think you can do the Tyranis update this time you failed last time and until you don't fix the server issues witch you do have cause of the last week downtime's you wont be able to even have a few hours stable tranquilty for what you do mass testing if you fail again the main reason is the people doing the server operation are unable to do there job in a normal way and until CCP does not see that you will pay for nothing but as it says in the rules CCP is not responsible for downtime issues EVE is CCP works so everything related to this Universe is their doing and CCP you are responsible no matter how you try to avoid or cover your mistakes you cheat us of game time for a majority is paying so you should finally consider doing something and see that with such attitude you shown this month the update witch you so massively you advertised is the biggest downturn in Eve History Rate : F for the CCP Managment

on a side note they have said give us to 1800 . Eve status eve-offline.net shows TQ is up and has 52 people on it i guess ccp is scaling up with the bug hunters, ISD and internal testers, this early in the day its a good sign last time it didnt get to this til about an hour before

so it would seem they are pretty well on track
